“The Seance” 

It was macabre you see,
we were all summoned,
and therefore found ourselves
in the front parlour of Ballylee;

In our dreams
we thought we were poets
of fabulous notoreity, 
the head ghoul set us straight on that.

The planchette was placed just so
below all underlings’ fingers gathered lightly sat,
while only one was given the Master’s pen
and through automatic powers

The sun was blinding 
but not as much as your rounded oceans 
Sparkling like a firecracker 
Like the first tinges of a lighter 

Hold it up to me and see my eyebrows twitch 
As the footsteps hitch 

And I raised a glass to the great unknowns
But I didn’t mean this 

And your alcoholic whispers 
Turned

The air was damp inside the house, chill creeping through the walls
 Swags and Tails with dusty eyes seep through the faded falls.
  The garish group sat silently hands splayed upon a table square
Whilst the caller whispers low and weak, “Is there anybody there?”

They wait and listen in the dark then shake in startled

Window slammed shut
Items lifted off shelves, into the air
Whooshing of the wind heard in my ears

Swirling inside crystal ball transmogrified into her face
She began accusing me of things I did not do
I understood then what my unrest was all about
I have a traitorous sister who lies about

Seance of Six Ventriloquists

Six friends met for seance
brought their dolls
placed ring-a-rosy in the center of a table
dolls holding hands.
Lights were dimmed
and seance session started
guests cast their voices
as ventriloquists to the dolls
without moving their lips.
The dolls gossiped among themselves.
No one knew who made which doll speak.

At first it was a fun

Tiffany roses circle in séance,
cut crystal vase in a sparely lit room,
round antique table opal in nuance,

Raven shadows deepen the ambiance.
Ashes of roses in draperies loom.
Onyx spinet plays deceptive cadence.
Sequined masquerade masks heighten the gloom,

reflecting with vermillion radiance
the flickering flames of marigold plumes.
