Charlies Schedule

Diane’s dog Charlie is her baby; more than her son ever was.
He likes me better than Stewart did too, she tells me.
Charlie’s therapy appointments are on Monday.
On Tuesdays he has his nails groomed or his teeth flossed.

Ralph - You Are Behind Schedule

Before the marathon began,
I walked First Avenue,
Aware 100,000 feet
Would soon come pounding through.

The do-not-cross tape waited
And the police were getting set
To control the hordes of cheering fans
Who hadn’t gathered yet.

Since some apartments face the street,
Their balconies supply
A place for friends to stand and shout
As runners hurry by.

From one such place, I saw a sign
To jokingly

we are not on the same schedule

I call my friend Linda at nine a.m.
she is probably sleeping
I leave her a couple of messages
get no reply

she calls me around ten pm
this wakes me up and irritates me
I do not answer,
not wanting to encourage her to call me this late

I cannot imagine

So I shall go, if you don’t mind
You’ll probably stay home
Last time we met I can’t rewind
Since then I’m on my own
I need to buy some fish and bread
And paper towels too
Until the heat will rise, instead
One pouring rain or two
You likely need some chores to do

as may resound sharp bamboo xylophones.

Pulchritudinous bells have rhythmic ding,
others that linger with tedious ring.

prompting our schedule's punctilious time.

A carillons' unique, harmonized bells
swing from gentleness to overtone swells.

Silly But I Still Over Schedule

I knew I was going to overschedule myself
It was as sure as the piccolo played by an elf
Still I promised, too many I would help, which is silly I know.
Painting myself into a corner, with nowhere to go.

What Dreams May Come

I startled awake, early Sunday morning,
fraught - my mind, darting like a panicked animal
because my assignment calendar 
is wet, smeared and illegible!

Total darkness - I fish for my phone by it’s cord - it reads 3:08am.

I flop back onto a cloud of thick, memory foam.
Ahhh, jeeez, it was just a DREAM.
