Juicy and sweet, these berries delight,
Unique flavor with a hint of almond's bite.
Native to North America's land,
Eaten fresh or dried, both are grand.
Baked into pies or made into jam,
Enjoyed in wines, a treat for the fam.
Rosy bronze leaves in spring's embrace,
Rich in nutrients, a healthful grace.
Indigenous peoples cherished them so,
Essential vitamins they bestow.
Saskatoon berries, nature's gift we know.

Hung on a brick wall the mummy looks spooky
its Halloween time and her timing is fluky
she prowls down the lane committing mutiny
hostile as a devil she breathes foul frumenty
Dried up like an old prune she flies like a goon
hovering over the kids that live in Saskatoon
with a menacing laugh she fills them with doom
as they run to hide they leave plenty of room
But oh how she knows where the children go
with their looby loo ways spilling candy intoe
she's been well preserved and is full of woe
angry as a witch who just stubbed her toe
Better close that door and lock it twice
she's mad as a hornet and not very nice
sucking on brains is her only device
this mummy from Sask, never knocks thrice.

Missy, Suave Donnie,
and sweet Suzi Q.
Saw a rock concert,
in Seventy-Two,
No need to bother.
it was the Guess-Who.
You heard of those Dude's
They Jammed Saskatoon.
Well, they had No Time,
To be Undun.
When American Woman,
Went number One.
And they ran out of Sugar,
to play late at night.
So, they joined Mother Nature,
in Rock-N- Roll Style.
Missy, Suave Donnie,
and Sweet Suzi Q.
went to a concert,
on May Twenty-Two,
You heard of that band,
It was The Guess-Who.
And they Rocked Seattle,
In Seventy-Two.

What is a saskatoon berry?
All I know is that it arrived on my doorstep this fall.
Looking like a dried up stick in a pot of soil.
The community farm had too many for it’s food forest so I got one.
It is out in my garden, in the hole that I dug, in the cold.
It may be dead for all I know or it could bloom and feed us.
Or it just might be a metaphor.

There once was a sailor from Saskatoon
Who recklessly wielded his new harpoon
He impaled himself
Accusing an elf
Crew replaced him by a smarter baboon

There once was a man who loved rakes
why pay when their there for the take
as the leaves go pell-mell
he shovels like hell
then he rakes , and he rakes, and he rakes
There once was a man from southern New York
who planted the shrubs with a shovel and cork
heal to toe he did dig
like he did at the rig
yes he dug, and he dug, and he dug
There once was a child from Saskatoon
so little snow, he shoveled with spoon
he snowballed it up
but it melted by sup
so he scraped, and he scraped, until noon
There once was a poet who started to write
for a contest, that fitted just right
so he limericks away
it is all fun and play
as he writes, and he writes, until night.

There was a young girl from Saskatoon
who went to the nude beach in sunny June.
When she shed her knickers
to the bathers snickers,
they all donned shades for the light of the moon.

I sat upon a rock one day, the rock it had a name.
Bromley was magnificent, but a mere rock, just the same.
The rock it sat within a creek, known only as the Snass
I rested for a moment there. It felt good on mine ass.
I cracked a beer, the sun was hot, my shades were photo-gray.
It felt so good, but time was short, for we were on our way.
My sister got excited at this picturistic view.
She snapped a shot and said let’s go, your family waits for you.
To the prairies of Alberta, we‘d be in Redcliff soon,
My sister and her hubby on their way to Saskatoon.
I’m glad we had this chance to stop on hi-way number three.
Somewhere near Hope and Princeton in the mountains of B.C.
And now this picture has become a favorite to us all.
We thank you Auntie Doris. It looks good on our wall.
In fact now everybody knows exactly just how great
Our big adventure in the mountains was in eighty-eight.

Amongst the purple
shadows in the early
light
Flocks of birds
taking ready for
flight
Sprinkles of colors
and various shades
of green
A place that remains
untouched and
unseen.
Water slowly
trickles along the
small creek
Where you find
pebbles and stones
so unique
Overhead the bird of
prey with eyes like
a hawk
Will gaze over
everything that
crawls or walks.
The water with it's
endless spring flow
A home for water
lilies and the fish
below
A haven for the
birds of prey
A home for the
foliage to decay.
Green moss gathers
around the trees
Gathering place for
moths, wasp and bees
Black ants invade
the old tree stumps
While tall crap
grass gathers in
clumps.
Black- eyed Susan
scent hangs strong
Other flowers barren
, flowers long gone
Once bright berries
hung, now only a few
Saskatoon,
pin-cherries and
choke cherries too.
Amongst the purple
shadows in the early
light
The prairie sunset
turns to a soft
scented night
I walk along the
path by the creek
Finding the solitude
that I seek.

In the misty morning amid the elm and maple trees
The whiteness delicately floats above the ponds waterline
The night hunters abandon their night search for food
As the early morning rays peek through the woodland.
The morning brings the forest teeming to life
The occupants ready to attack their early morning feast
The vines and shrubs hiding them as they arch ready to attack
they scramble for their scrumpcious bite of food.
The geese, crows and magpies mingle around the water's edge
Looking for plants, seeds and aquatic animals to feed
Among the bull rushes and cattails on the sloughs edge
They mingle with the locals who come to drink.
Eating the wild berries for a tasty treat
Saskatoon, chokecherries, pin cherries ready to eat
Juicy and sweet, mild yet tart
Quite edible for a flock to feast.
This is a haven, a sanctuary for all
And as the balmy summer evening turns once again to dusk
The predators will come out with the evening shade
To stalk their prey among the woodland grove.
