Love Story Poetry Contest: Our Love-Then, When, and Now

Then…
…the sparks in your eyes were a thousand fireflies, diamonds in pools of blue.
…the laughter we shared rang joyous to my willing ears.
…warmth flowed freely in the smoke of desire.
…your hair orangish red, like a tanager’s wings, was smooth as the finest silk.
Carry me backwards in time when…
… your love brought me peace of mind and your touch could set me a flame.
…a kiss was the beginning of love’s game.
…crystal tears fell out of pure joy.
…our love was young and full of glory.
…you were the one who caused me such glee.
…you made us ‘we’ in the decision to share our hearts.
…we were merely two intersecting orbits.
…our youthfulness gave into lust.
Now…
…making love is different than back then.
…compatibility and intimacy go along with mutual trust.
…we’re collaborative souls, together circling the sun.
…after all these years, I see you as a friend, lover, and a tamer of my fears.
…I take comfort in knowing that loving you is right ‘till the very end.
