RUSTED DREAMS

Verse 1
There’s a rusted-out old steeple
Off Highway 31, near my dad’s old trailer
I left that place with shaking hands,
Swore I’d never kneel again—
But silence pulls like the wind before a storm.

Verse 2
I try to keep my eyes open
But the world keeps shifting tones,
The faces I once laughed with
Fade like echoes down a payphone—
Still, I hear a whisper in the static.

Chorus
Grace’ll break your worn-out heart, sure it will —
Then walk you home like nothing happened.
When shadows stretch and swallow whole,
Mercy flickers — a match you thought was gone.

Verse 3
I’ve worn shame like a second skin,
Like a coat I never meant to keep.
But there’s a light that slips through cracks
Where I buried all my prayers too deep—
And now it’s callin’ me to stay.

Chorus
Grace’ll break your worn-out heart, sure it will —
Then walk you home like nothing happened.
When shadows stretch and swallow whole,
Mercy flickers — a match you thought was gone.

Bridge
So if you’re out there listening,
Drowning in the noise and doubt,
You’re not the only one
Who's ever thought of backing out.
Hold on—grace will find you,
Even when you can’t believe,
It’s the hand that won’t let go,
The hum behind the silence when you breathe.

Final Chorus
Grace’ll tear right through your chest, yeah it will—
Then carry you home through the dark and still.
When the night tries to take your soul,
Mercy burns — quiet, fierce, and whole.

Spoken Outro
“Maybe grace ain’t the thunder we pray for—
maybe it’s the hand you don’t see till you’re falling.
It’s not about staying clean,
it’s about standing up with dirt still on you.
And if you feel lost tonight—
that’s exactly where grace waits.”

(pause)

…let the silence speak...
