Snot nosed, barefoot
Chanting, walk the streets
Spit flies from mouth, food on cheek
Green, ripe, and free
Dirty and unkempt
Unbridled and unmanageable
Wild child
Dolls and toy trucks
Mudpies and hopscotch
Bugs and jump rope
Torn clothes, holes in socks
Scraped knees and mud on shoes
Marching on, they're marching on
They're marching on
Drums rattle, off beat
Out of tune flutes, cowbells and slide whistles
Ringing bent triangles while singing loudly
Songs without chords
Melodies without rhythm
Games without rules
Things without reasons
Love without need
Enjoyment without thought
For the sake of it all, I guess
Enigmatic thinkers, unfamiliar and strange
They're marching on, they're marching on
They're coming here and soon
They've got a lot to say
They're coming out to play
Their voices cannot be drowned out
For nothing else is louder
I be foolin' 'round the playground;
Had my teddy by my side.
I be foolin' 'round the playground,
When she took me for a ride.
Thought I'd always be a swinger;
Now I'm goin' down the slide.
Gonna rock and roll this morning;
Rattle off to shaky town.
Gonna rock and roll this morning;
Teeter-totter, up and down.
When it's time to change my diaper,
Gonna dance this mess around.
Mama calls me Pretty Baby;
Don't know where she's comin' from.
Mama calls me Pretty Baby,
But I'm playin' deaf and dumb.
Makes me wanna hit the bottle
‘steada suckin' on my thumb.
Now I’m feelin' kinda thirsty.
I be lookin’ at her chest.
Now I’m feelin’ kinda thirsty.
I be placin’ my request
With a question to consider;
Which ole nipple tastes the best?
Gonna hear a bedtime story
'bout a reindeer on the roof.
Gonna hear a bedtime story
'bout a horsey's painted hoof
And my very special favorite,
Riding Hood Meets Howlin' Woof.
I have a ‘snake slayer,’
a derringer I carry
when hiking in dry States.
So when I saw the coiled rattlesnake
sunbathing on a dusty track
I unholstered,
ready to unleash some primitive instincts,
oddly though
I chose, ‘instinctively’
to step backwards for a spell
and work my way around it.
I could have slayed it
with one .410 shotshell;
I mean who needs rattlers?
I could have cut the rattle off,
taken it home triumphantly
to my mancave.
Then again, ammo is not cheap,
and snakes are all over
this arid landscape.
Funny how it pans out…
sometimes instincts can surprise us
with a little caveman reasoning.
Tempt me to be funny
And I will be sharp on the money
And I will rattle off a joke
At some poor souls expense
But words will never hurt me
Peek, if you dare…inside my Palace of CREATIVITY
Observe my drafty walls, and rhyming dungeons ^^
Enter, my friends, with no delusions! ^^
There are marbled halls of mass confusion…
Regarding your ILLUSION, of metaphoric INFUSIONs,…
Your opinions may falter, upon the alter, compared to other verses ^^
^^
Poetic attempts, and past regrets, are ghostly curses
And with INEVITABLE blunders, they rattle off meter, the echos could haunt you!
Lest you dare, just beware, dear readers…. WATCH YOUR STEP! ^^
As your guide, I’ll confide….people have died!
'Cause this Poetry Palace, has bats in the belfry! (As everyone knows)…
EVENTUALLY, this palace place should be foreclosed!
For Linda Marie’s Contest “Poetry Palace”
By Carrie Richards
Stomping on the medals of the race before we win
and the most we ask each other is to rattle off, begin
Begin to conquer freedom with the hollows of our past
as we cut a slice off life's big pie just hoping it will last
Shooting at each other with our words cut silver sharp
and patching wounds deep, self inflicted, carried on as scars
Lift the eyes tomorrow while we go our separate ways
as we blow a kiss into the air ~ goodbye to yesterdays...
