"While the earth remains,
Seed time and harvest,
Summer and winter,
Cold and heat,
Will not cease."
Bible, Gen, 8:22
I saw the moon rising on my left.
I beheld the sun setting on my right.
I mused within my soul about forever things,
Things which we often deem antiquated.
I mourned inside over non-forever things,
Things upon which we are unduly fixated.
We convince ourselves that outdated things
matter less and mentally put them to rest
Rather than make become a quest.
.
But the wisest of us will learn to touch base
With things beyond our reach and discover
What they have to teach. In so doing, we will
Come to realize the value of such pursuits.

With silly smile, playing laptop keyboard
keys, I relay tales of brief, college bliss,
where days, like dry martinis, swiftly pass
lips that pucker for life’s capricious kiss.
My roommates bring joy and warm delight, like
late night Cheeto-fights to break-up study
drudgery - some chaos can counter stress,
though it makes a powdery-orange mess.
While we whirl and preen, when on party scenes,
we've embarked on the classic scholar’s quest.
We're earnest lasses, who pass-up passes -
well, some capitulate - we are human.
But I'm tempered by shame, and remembered
love's flame - and nightly I whisper his name.

The windows touch the darkness
The last of night is filled with snow
A silent falling of flakes that show
Daylight will bring snow covered starkness
I remember darkness different than this
It was not peaceful, feeling no end in sight
As if what had come, was an endless night
But this serenity now, can lead to exciting bliss
So, as the snow falls and my mind rests,
Waiting for the beautiful new day to start,
I pick up the pieces that fell apart
From all of my many previous quests

We
tilt
at
windmills
that
do not
turn
as
our
hearts
and
minds
in
turmoil
churn
we
try
to
change
what
cannot
be
and
in our
pride
ignore
Thee
we
believe
we
can
so
try
and
try
and
deep
inside
we
live
this
lie

Out across the country lanes
and down into the woods,
these places we would play
for they had all “the Goods”.
It didn’t matter the time of year,
Spring, Summer , Winter or Fall-
we were ready as each one drew near
for we played hard through them all.
Adventures of the highest kind
as we’d run to the chasm again.
We’d swing across on monkey vines,
not walking around it instead.
Our sleds would speed the power lines,
shooting down the treacherous slopes.
Careful to miss the towering pines,
we’d hold tightly to the ropes.
How carefree were our younger days
as I look back across the years.
We spent our youth under sun’s gold rays
and conquered our childhood fears.
Many quests filled these gallant years,
these quests for “the other side”.
Memories like these become more dear
as I sail upon life’s tide.

How little it takes to satisfy
and keep life's storms at bay.
Money in my pocket and life without stress
are my solace and strength for this day.
Temporal and shallow creatures we be
on our quests through this life day by day.
But the outward things that satisfy
are not where the true treasures lay.
What a confusing paradox we be :
outwardly existing yet hungering within.
The search for truth that tugs at our hearts
to deny remains ever a sin.
Temporal things will pass from this life;
what may have brought peace for a time.
But the heart leads to satisfaction in Him
and the life that He gives is sublime.
