In the pursuit of happiness
Americans chase fortune and fame
gold galore and a place
where everyone knows their name
but they could tone it down a bit
and not go loudly announcing it
to all and sundry with every word
it seems infinitely preferable
if some are seen and never heard
but on the other hand in another land
while leading lives of quiet desperation
trapped in their traditional ways
the British hang on in hope
of distant future better days
and tho' always first to join a queue
there are the few exceptions who
break the rule at every chance
don't give a whit or backward glance
hats off to them for their contribution
as every generation needs a new revolution
Nearer My God To Thee
eight musicians
lost to the sea
the ship went down, unsinkable
forty minutes to three.
Critics will stoop
so low as to blame
the ghost of
Marilyn Monroe,
accuse her of being easy
say that she
was only sex
with legs and hips
how can you have
it without?
those lips
never realized
that she was,
never considered
her heart
her mind that now
remains observed
while here
her image
in eternity
a beauty
in ways she
will never know,
a vision.
Much preferable to deprive the body of material goods than the soul of moral precepts!

Different pains can be preferable
Though all hurts
Though all hurts deep
There are different
flavors
of
ferocity
Stinging, high pitched and sour screams
Burning, low boiled growling
Sharp, a swift high jab
Psychological
no
not
emotional, psychological
My psyche hurts
My emotions burn
My soul stings
My despair is sharpened
None can be seen
no evidence given
no one forgiven
My psyche HURTS
The warmth between hypothermia and death
warm and soft
I
want
to sleep
always
sleep
only
sleep
sleep is the only relief
there is but one other waking relief
Pain is relief
a jolt
a shock
that punches you out of the emotions you're drowning in
just a gasp
but it's preferable to drowning
a gasp
a slap-in-the-face-wake-up gasp
I can't breath
a gasp
MUCH PREFERABLE
Much
Preferable for me
Would be,
In the whirlpool of your
Hopelessness to
Vanish
Than
Solace to seek
Into another woman’s
Embrace!
