the way home

The way home2025-04-21

Good afternoon
I'm back to where my fortune began
the fortune I betrayed by moving away
not for any reason that I momentarily
thought I could find an easier life
a place of clean underwear and breakfast
A place where I could sleep to nine
that had a café on the first floor and peopled
by sure people, safe in their middleclass
restricted world where everyone followed
a rule written by convention
where animal life was a fluffy dog or
a sweet blue cat where street dogs were
humanly put down.
at the inn, I asked around where I could
rent an old house, preferable near a stream
a place that didn't demand vigilance
or conformity
Yes, they knew of a house that had stood
empty since the former dweller had
had gone to live in a big city, to my surprise
it was my old house that I converted many
years ago from a stable to a house
I had been warned the house was odd rooms
didn't match and had steps inside
In the living room I faint smell of a mule
quite rightly so, it had once been a stable
The cottage was cheap to rent
I didn't mind as it once had been the stable
I bought forty years ago

A Preferable Blonde

Nearer My God To Thee
eight musicians
lost to the sea
the ship went down, unsinkable
forty minutes to three.

Critics will stoop
so low as to blame
the ghost of
Marilyn Monroe,
accuse her of being easy

say that she
was only sex
with legs and hips

how can you have
it without?
those lips

never realized
that she was,
never considered
her heart

her mind that now
remains observed
while here
her image
in eternity

a beauty
in ways she
will never know,
a vision.

Douglas Murray

Douglas Murray

On various YouTube programs
I have taken an interest in his opinions
about Islam in Europe, and I share
his pessimistic opinions
He is a person of great interest
always well groomed
it appears he spends most of his
time in various hotel rooms, preferable
near a mirror, adjusting his tie
His vanity is amusing
Regarding his view of the Gaza debacle
I fear his dislike (hatred) of Islam
leads him astray by talking about
the October 7/10 atrocities, yet fail
to address the 42 thousand civilians
killed by Israeli bombs, which
he, no doubt, blames Hamas
As a debater, he is superb
 his intelligence
of highest quality
I also find his half-smile when delivering
a verbal retort, endearing
I look forward to reading his books

Everyone I've ever loved
Has left their mark on my soul
On my body
On my mind.
Every time I speak
Everything I type
Every song I listen to
Everything
Without my loved ones
Who am I?
Without me
They will still be them
But without them
I am nothing
Is it too late?
Too late to be me
Or will I simply be them
Until I die
Being them is preferable
To being me
But I must be me

My wish

Aren’t stars meant to shine for us when we kiss,
holding hands and staring at the ever-beautiful moon.
Maybe they’re waiting for our ballon…
With our wish written on it, living life with a bliss.
I do not wish for anything else but this…
though you may think this is just a croon.
Just know, from love we are not immune.
I love it when we laugh and continue to reminisce,
Some of the memories that we do and do not miss.
Deep in the coldness of June,
tied together by the blanket till the afternoon,
Laying there, crossing fingers, our love to never remiss.
Thought deep in the most preferable tune,
Praying for what we have to never be strewn.
Know this, this wish, I never wish to dismiss
as it may eventually come true anytime soon.

Premium MemberI love Soldiers Trucks and Sand

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Other girls were saying “princess, ballerina, secretary, nurse, and teacher.”
I said, “I want to be a race car who owns a fire truck.”
None of the laughing ones knew I meant it.
None of the other girls knew why I was the way I was.
They knew I was strange though,
Avoiding me at all costs.

The boys, on the other hand, thought it made sense.
They took me under their wings and let me play.
I was happier with them anyway,
As they never said “he said that you said that
we said that she said that he said.”
All was well.
Playing with trucks and soldiers
In the sand is preferable to
Playing with small dead
Plastic children
Anyway.

Premium MemberOpen Poetry 9 - Not Worthy of Life

An outcome more preferable than becoming a slave.
Peace beyond dreaming on the way to my grave.
Accused and found guilty, I was not remanded.
Inflicting retributive punishment is what I was handed.

The noose hung before me, my future to die.
Onlookers glaring in silence, then an insidious cry.
Relentless struggle to take in air, my voice so rasp.
Agonizing, laborious striving to inhale, I gasp.

Monotonous effort, to force my body to breathe.
All energy spent, a body not worthy of life, I seethe.
Too weak to continue, as hopeless as it seems,
To end this misery, was only in my dreams.

A calm settled as images of my bygone years showed.
The irony of death giving me life was blissfully bestowed.
All pain diminished, as visions of heaven came to me.
The brightest light was all my vision allowed me to see.

A Replacement Life

A childhood summer
leaks away, taking with it
its raft of unanchored memories.

Thoughts grasps at the cold hands
of the never-was.
Time and age question.

The long buried emerge,
a would-be history
exposed as a replacement fiction;
one stolen from an imagined life.

A borrowed sunshine -
yet still preferable to the head-dreams
that deny both fact and fairytales,
and open doors long nailed shut.

Death Fish in Key West

Scientists describe it as an event
In the hot paradise of Key West

Condos festivals hotels
Dancing feet under bells of lights
I’ve sung Margaritaville there
Myself

Beneath the docks

Pan fish spin in the new green pea sea
Mad somersaults
Alone
To their own kind of tambourine

Bring out your Dead
Bring out your Dead

14-foot Swordfish swish their tails
Beach themselves by the dawn of rails
Swim in the sandpaper sun’s preferable agony
A woman stands by cries and mutters
“I’m so sorry”

Reaches for his folded-over fin
Comfort to the roadside beggar

Sting Ray does the butterfly
Chops atop the ocean’s surface
Charges something unseen beating its wings
Battering the space where waves dot the sky
As if it were an archangel screaming
Stop it! Stop It!

To the Great False Prophet Anthropomorphism

Animals and plants are as human
As we
Without fingers and hands to see

All creatures speak from a conscience
Possess morals
If we’d listen from beyond our own shortcomings
And denial

The Key West fish are calling us
In plain language

Help us help us
We’re boiling to death.

The dam, in which
the tissue residue is present
has a saline ecosystem
despite the dryness
It is still preferable
to a carnival of wood and
burnt bryony bushes.

You could smell it.
from light-years afar
a tourniquet grasp of
saffron soil in a swooshing
flame is inscribed on the
plains armrest.

The grassland dips in
revealing slabs of an ancient utopia
the focal halftone of a
floating forehead features
a house of clovers motif
my torn lobes throb
beating as a breathing bruise,
hiding behind the partial eclipse
the integral aspects of
crimson maple.

I started overlapping
the threshold
to be buried as an
enigma in the depths of her soul
in the funnel, mists of ash, and shaking
sprinting into the intricacies of a
heavenly sanctuary
dubbed heart.

Alarm, if not smoke is there, anymore!

The ceiling fan orbiting, on and on
reminded after many spectacular nights, though, not this.
Pulchritude perhaps begins before Paul care.

The window pen hardly opened these days.
reminded me, that I, will need to see before eyes gaze anymore.
Ponderance, perhaps nurture before a short story

The art piece, the paperweight or the color pencils too
skins often are preferable with peach color.
or a healing hand with a giggle almost gargling there.

"Whom, did you see in me? Your substantial one?"

Premium MemberA Lifetime of Crying

Soulmates are conjoined in both heart and soul,
in good times and bad.
And when cancer strikes one of you,
it's unbelievably tragic.
Responsive to a relationship built on love
one reaches out to the other,
and your darkest fears get brought to light.
A lot of deep soul-searching
leaves you feeling helpless,
unable to alleviate your soulmate's suffering.
Fond memories form the catalyst
that allows sad thoughts
to be spun into a comforting feeling;
recalling all the happy times
you enthusiastically shared as one.
But the hurt is real;
fueling feelings of intimate sorrow.
And when pain is all one has to look forward to,
death becomes preferable;
both for the one dying,
and the one doomed to a lifetime of crying.

Halcyon Days

HALCYON DAYS

Seeing the past through rose coloured glasses
And memories with a tinge of happier times
Was it always the case that the past was nice
And never subject to the cold of frost or ice
I’m sure all prefer when temperature climbs
As sun is revealed when a dark cloud passes

Those halcyon days were probably tainted
By challenges that brought the mood down
Every artwork hides a mistaken brushstroke
Forgetting when that emotional dam broke
Yet not every occurrence deserves a frown
As happiness emerges in a finished painting

Might one really want to relive those days
Yes, there were good times and pleasure
But finding joy in one’s current existence
It is preferable to good times at a distance
There’s no comparison, by any measure
Enjoy the present, the past a mere phase

Quality

When a woman seems a preferable quality
Some folks will still have questions about her qualifications as long as she qualified to play
Her house role quietly and other things quickly.
As she succeeded to apprehend him in her
heart and he comprehended to live there.
Who can have power to cut that rope and elope
With one of them around nights or daytimes?
Question to some accidental luvs who quitted
So quickly while they were qualities qualified
By some choosers who quivering by their exquisiteness,
Whenever they appear sympathetically and romantically.

Premium MemberDarkness

a child is snatched
life forms brutalised
earth is a dark realm
where all of us dwell
feeling fear overwhelm

within the dark abyss
when all hope seems lost
our eyes turn heavenward
but it may be preferable
if they first turn inward

law of cause and effect
inevitably comes into play
but for now we weep tears
bleeding, bleeding, bleeding
paralysed by our worst fears
