In days of yore
her husband snored
Her nightly grief
knew no relief
But then by chance
she learned to pole-dance
which promptly cleared his sinuses
~ Though that had its plusses and minuses

In life, we get to pick and choose
And live with each decision.
There’s more to it than win or lose
For what we might envision
Most often won’t exactly match
Reality’s rendition
And even if we start from scratch
To bring it to fruition
Another road may take us where
We’d never planned to travel;
Despite some welcome plusses there,
Our souls may still unravel.
Therefore to this lesson heed:
Wanting gets usurped by need.

Chocolate, flowers, cards with hearts,
And the message each imparts:
“You’re a person I adore;
Who could ask for something more?”
Tell us that today’s the day
We must have something nice to say
To husbands, daughters, sons, and wives:
We’re grateful that you’re in our lives.
Even though I see your flaws,
I accept them all, because
All your plusses far outweigh
The foolish things you sometimes say.
The little habits that annoy
Do not mean that I don’t enjoy
The many ways you are so sweet;
You really make my life complete.
I’m sure you have your own long list
Of things I do that make you pissed,
But underneath the love is strong;
That’s why our union’s lasted long.
So on this day of sentiment,
I think of years that came and went
And I am thrilled you still are mine,
And hope you’ll be my valentine.

Every time we end a fight
you plead for one last try.
You sit and talk of doing things right
while I just sit and cry.
But where were you when times were tough,
when I felt like giving in,
when all I needed out of life
was for you to think of your kin?
You'd demand that I'd tell you my past,
my life, the good and bad.
But, my friend, let me tell you, experience is great.
You could have been a dad.
But where were you when times were good,
first kisses, A plusses and such?
How did it look on your long to-do list
that your son needs you so much?
I want to forgive you and let this pass,
forget the entire deal,
but, the prints on my neck have far from vanished,
My fatherless life has been sealed.
