Piggybacked on a feisty Fall breeze,
November scatters scarlet leaves.
And as foggy breaths of air
disperse like contrails
in the skies above;
flurries of flakes
tumble down
masking
Fall.

It’s Spring Fling today - an all-day campus concert with some up-and-coming music acts. We’ll be out there, in the rain if we have to, we're determined and somewhat waterproof. We went out earlier, doing a scan for friends to find seats and place stuff to hold our spot.
What, up until now, have been notes of preparation for summer move-out, will become a symphony tomorrow - after my last final - I’ll be a sophomore then, I suppose.
Peter has to check an experiment he’s working on. He hugs me and heads out.
“He’s so hot,” Anna observes, “he makes me think about sex, and you know what - YES!”
“You can have him," I say, "he’s too tall - and besides - he’s friending-down, with me.” I admit.
“I like him,” Lisa says, “he doesn’t complain or disapprove of things.”
“He’s the modern man,” Anna says, dreamily.
“And he’s REALLY good at kissing games.” I confide, grinning like a creepy boy, to make them jealous. They all made various noises that piggybacked and incorporated into one coherent gagging sound.

I may have had a change of heart,
My daughter has Netflix and I have piggybacked on it,
And I value the indirect savings of,
Avoiding the adds and the temptations put in front of me,
To buy things I don't need and may never use,
It may even help my powers of conversation,
And memory retention,
It also keeps me off Facebook.
Can we still justify the money for publicly funded TV channels?
Here in NZ that are littered with ads tempting people who can't afford it,
To buy things they don't need and may never use,
Ending up with credit card debt at high interest,
Then unable to pay the rent,
Resulting in expectations of a govt top up,
Something worthy of discussion perhaps.
Note: We used to have a thing called a TV licence in NZ,
Which meant limited advertising,
But when people refused to pay their licence,
The advertisers saw their chance.
I wonder if those who refused to pay are regretting that now.

Sculptured metal with a polished sheen,
and oxygen tanks hissing like steam.
Space shuttles were powerful machines,
where liquid fuel took cold to extremes.
A rival sun burnt a blazing path
as engines ignited flames of wrath.
And plumes of fire flashed final goodbyes,
launching shuttles high into the skies.
Man's hopes and dreams were their first payload
as they rocketed to God's abode.
And rolling on their backs to gain speed,
they'd jettison their tanks and feel freed.
Now untethered from their earthly base,
they explored the edge of outer-space.
And when gravity pulled shuttles home,
reentry's heat was absorbed by foam.
With their stubby wings floating on air,
they'd touch down, screeching in despair.
To help give America a boost,
they got piggybacked back to their roost.

Secrets,
now memories,
piggybacked through summer.
On handlebars, calloused fingers
steered dirt bikes to an emerald kingdom.
Two boys, on tree stump thrones, ruled worms
unearthed with splendid crowns
of sundrenched leaves,
carefree.
