Eye of the Beholder

The real beauty lies
Deep inside the beholders eyes
It goes beyond the surface of the skin
To what you have within
What is it that you hold dear
Do you live life without fear
Do you know the risks you take
In the choices that you make
Do you wear your heart upon your sleeve
Are you sure in what it is that you believe
Do you accept penance for your sins
Are you thankful for the chances you’ve been given
Do you love
Do you have compassion
Do you relish in the sun
This is where the beauty lies
In this beholders eyes

The End
By Greg P
Form: Narrative

Beauty

She stands upon the sanded shore
The waves praise her feet
She marvels at the sunset glow
It makes her feel complete

Her beauty is reflection of
The multi-colored sky
A beauty that is so profound
It makes the angels cry

To see her in the glow that God
Had painted with his hand
Was likened to Nirvana
Or to see the promised land

Beauty is an image
It's a joy for all to see
It helps to soften hardend heart
Or set a spirit free

But beauty isn't limited
To eye or word of mouth
'Cause beauty comes from deep within
And love's what brings it out

Beauty could be standing
At a corner on the street
Begging for a dollar
Just to have a bite to eat

Or beauty could respond in kind
By giving what is asked
And maybe just a little more
To help the human task

Beauty isn't something
That is just to please the eye
Beauty is the soul within
And beauty is the mind

Oshun: African Beauty

Oh gracious mother of waters
beautiful woman has come
queen of joy pleasing to thy king
Oh green eyed silent beauty
Voice as sweet as a kind heart
Eye brows as straight as an arrow
Oh great mediator of divine
Fingers coated with melted gold
Shaped with a swan like neck
Oh princess among many others
Resolute cheeks steady as gaze
Gleaming hair with black locks

Oh goddess as capable as a king
lips as bright as berry fondant
Eyes outlined with silver glimmer
Oh daughter dark and comely
Legs long like the harvestman
Waist as round as a circle
Oh queen of beauty and devotion
Won respect in history of goddess
As most beautiful in your time
Remembered for beauty and power

Pandora's Box – Sonnet

Who would have thought, when Epimetheus
Had seen the utmost beauty sent by gods,
He would not listen to Prometheus,
And keep his hands away? What were the odds?
Because of him, we now have amongst us
All evil things, from pain to very death,
From anger up to illness, and, alas,
From greed up to the envy's stinking breath...
But also, due to him and his embrace
Of warm desire for the beauty found,
When sweet Pandora opened up her case
And all the blights kept spreading all around,
We have one tiny, fragile, magic rope,
That keeps us going on forever: HOPE.

Conversion – Sonnet

they say that pearls are gemstones, and it's true:
their beauty often takes our dreams away,
we string them into shiny ropes of dew
and pride ourselves with what the others say
when they are charmed by bracelets, circlets, rings,
and any other pearly jewel we flaunt...
the heart in front of their pure beauty sings,
and we enjoy the outcome of our vaunt...
but never do we take the time to learn
the cruelty of the price one oyster pays
to bring to life ONE pearl, the pain, the yearn,
the agony in which the oyster lays...
if WE could turn to pearls our inner throes,
would we be just as proud to flourish those?...

Timeless Beauty

Beauty, beauty, everywhere
But everything withers away
The beauty of the soul is ginormous
Human creation is its manifestation.

Make thy soul beautiful
Self knowledged, self experienced, self schooled------
Timeless Beauty of the soul
Shine whose like pearl.

The authentic and the real
Neither clings to race, nor religion
Beauty, beauty everywhere
Soul's beauty enclosed not bare

Invisible, intangible
Weightless yet imperishable.
