Otters Poems

Premium Membersea otters jump into the sea

sea otters of every width, age and size
Were at the crest of the hill at sunrise
Ready to jump into Indian Sea with umbrellas too
Throwing in coolers and towels after me and you

We sea otters are a playful bunch for sure
Laughing, we know there is no cure
Or way of stopping us once we find
A cliff to jump off of, or a hill to climb

We love hitting the water cold and hard
It is our fondest pastime, we land like lard
jiggling and wiggling in pure sea otter delight
getting everything wet, landing hard and tight

Two Otters

And now we are two otters
Set peacefully adrift
In kelp strands entwined
By anemone gardens
There is just you and me

Upon emerald waters
The simplest gift
Is your hand in mine
And I am safely harbored
From the perilous sea.

Premium MemberOtter Love You More

bow riding
Dall's porpoises play

sea otters, orcas
and bald eagles
every day
herding salmon

otter find another boat
and some porpoise

otter love you more
like I did in Alaska

otter mend this net
love slips through
reel it in carefully
and stack it meticulously
(setting it should
never ensue disaster)

a listless drifter
I have been
tempting storms
and rocky shores

otter live this life on porpoise
like I did then
choose a destination
sail to better shores (oh, give me a home
                                     where the sea otters roam
                                     and the bow riding
                                     Dall's porpoises play)
otter love you more
like I did in Alaska

Premium MemberBeware the Otters

Of many times we have in life,
Like some within the water.
A charm it seems, but darkness rife,
The mean and precious otter.

When first you glance, how beautiful,
And cute from feet to ears,
But deep inside, not viewable,
Is more than it appears.

The otter, such savage beast,
which kills it’s own for fun.
It rips and claws until deceased,
And leave it when it’s done.

Then don’t forget the way it stalks,
To torture baby seals.
And off away it gladly walks,
With other otter meals.

So in your world, just be aware,
Of cute but full of strife,
And gaze upon the otters there,
That swim about your life.

Otters

Obscure sea mammals found
off the Pacific coast,
opting for kelp forest
on California's cold
ocean waters, amongst
other marine life that
once faced near extinction.

Premium MemberSea Otters

Did ya know sea otters hold hands when they sleep
So they won't drift apart, their wedding vows to keep
Now that's a stretch
Didn't know that I bet
This leaves me stunned and makes me freak

Premium MemberHow Odd Are Otters

Are otters so odd?
   In Old English
Their name means 'water'
And it really ought to
As they live near the river or sea

Are otters so odd?
  They sing like canaries
With clear voices
   So happy and merry
Their high-pitched sopranos
A treat for you and for me

Are otters so odd?
   They're really so cute
When they stand up
   They look so much like
Little 'fish pups' --
(You almost expect them to bark) --

But they've whiskers like cats
   Except for one thing:
Some of those whiskers
   Jut out from their eyes
Which is quite a surprise

Are otters so odd?
   Some might "Yes" nod
But I see not the need
   For either a rod
Or an 'otter-swatter'

Premium MemberThe Otters Play

English Sonnet

Along the walk the suits and sneakers stroll,
so many faceless smiles that tell a lie
and don't reveal the true and costly toll,
instead with righteous glare they will deny.
We walked one time along this very shore
to skip a stone and watch the otters play
and vowed not to become what we abhorred -
a knight and a sweet damsel we would stay.
But that was all so very long ago
so as a storm blows in from o're the pond,
and suits hide safe behind their parasols,
it's for the simpler times I truly long.
Just like the otters we will splash and dive
and naked in the rain we will survive.

River Otters

Lapis lazuli blue waters

copper stones sunset kissed

night sky

Wild and playful river otters

twirling round in a tryst

Sea Otters of the Pacific Coast

sea otters of the pacific coast

Sea otters
Of the dark green seas
In the kelp forests of fisco bay
On cold pacific shores
Sea otters come alive
Frolic play with jested vigor
Spontaneous games throughout the day
Rhapsodies of symphonic joy
Diving swirling swimming
Deep amidst the swaying kelp of the Frisco bay
Lying on their backs
Bellies to the open skies
On the surface of green blue seas
Clams in little hands
Crunching with such delight
Through briny long haired whiskers
Such bliss is hard to know
But for a selected few
