Oscar nerds and fashion birds

Who win the Oscars is for nerds,
Not for the fashion flaunting birds
And fashion one thing backs--
What exposes the max,
More words and yards seem for the duds.

Note: The Academy Awards spectacle and Gwyneth Paltrow, her minimalist ivory Armani dress with cutout sides practically all open. Today’s reality is: A dress is something that exposes more than it covers.

Premium Member Book Nerds Enter

Book nerds enter
at your own risk
foot tap…which way to go
to dash away
down the stairs
to thumb the stacks and stacks

The major place is free
but book nerds long
to own a thousand
million - hug
them all with roving fingers
and supine bookmarks
placed in one and all

The remote control -
books aren’t completed one by one
we flip to different hooks*
and score

Tables at the book sale are labeled
but books can wind up
anywhere

The library ladies look bored
this is not their habitat
they are stared down
made to volunteer

The restrooms remain clean
for who has time
for such things

Filling up my bag -
One of these bound beauties
in its heyday might cost more
than the whole bag i score

Christianity and Poetry
are my main subjects
i’m salivating

And as any book nerd knows
before we start to read
we caress
the cover
and the first couple pages
like soul gazing - also called
foreplay
after all, we are making love

Nerds

The sweet crunch of nerds against your teeth
Are enough to tear you away from all grief
The colours, bright pink, purple, red
Taste like a rainbow when you are fed.

We eat them in class
craving the tangy taste
We savour them, ah
None go to waste.

They are all mixed up
Green with pink, yellow with purple
which makes them taste
Like heaven quadruple.

Now and again
a word
sneakily obscure
approaches the fog in me
screams its name suddenly

Apropos adverbs appear
clearly
startling
perplexing
precarious adjectives
slick little nouns
caught hiding
beyond babbling brooks
sent to exile
defiling crooks
"pro"fessional nouns
jailed beneath eight parts of speech.

Preposition-ed
pre-fixed subjects
elusive predicates
slithering suffix-ation
turn-ing key
delicately
through holes
freeing vocabulary
trapped
within prison cells
synonyms
pen bars
filled in
the past participles.

Plagued
like Job's tedious job of
siphoning
deciphering
homographs from heteronyms.

Words never mind!
they wind the mind gliding in the wind...

Nerds Wafting In Breezes

Upon the breeze of fate came love my way
To fragrance every flower with scents of you.
Forever, now, your sweetness brightens day.

As morning light seeks sparkles on the dew
A quiet wind bestirs the bees and birds.
Oh, shiver in my soul, your eyes so blue.

This glory in my heart defies all words.
Wild passions raging like a hurricane.
And who, but God could bind two lovelorn nerds?

Our wits upon the earth saw true love feigned.
Hope fell, like broken branches in life's storm.
For twain, had weathered gales of life with pain.

Upon that winds of fate two lives transform.
Embraced by common dreams our love ignites.
Together wafting breezes, love freeform.

Premium Member Maternal Algorithms (Poetry For Moms and Math Nerds)

I am the sum of the ages
beginning before my mother,
before my grandmother,
and before my grandmother's mother.

I am the product of their matriarchal choices,
the quotient of their actions, reflections, and self-images.
I am the difference of their generations.

And I bequeath the equation of this inheritance
to the matrices of my living legacies.

The Pride of Nerds

Come with me
And you’ll see
The pride of a nerd
Who has strayed from the herd
Of people in this school
Who think they’re so cool.
You may ask how,
but I swear it is avow.
You say this cannot be
But listen to me,
I’m proud to be a nerd.
You’ll fly like a bird
When you admit this.
It’s utter bliss
To fly so high. Admit you’re a grind
And leave behind
Who you used to be.
Follow me
To infinity and beyond
And the cool kids will respond
By leaving you alone
And allowing you to hone
The skills you learn in school.
He who laughs first is a fool,
So turn and laugh back my nerdy friends
Because that is how my story ends.
