Here's a tale of a Rogue Rabbit,
Met a hoodie paschal hermit,
She overcame all her fears,
She munched him, from toes to ears,
Ate the lot, begone, foul furry git!

I munched on some brownies with cheer
But soon things became unclear
The world spun around
I fell to the ground
And laughter reduced me to tears

This year, you walked into my life,
Brought me music and sunshine,
Triggered my brain's artistic side.
I loved all those time we were together,
Messaged one another via Conversation Apps,
Carried out the "Put lipstick on the pig" projects.
Repaired the rear boundary fence,
Assembled the coffee table,
Went shopping and preparing food,
Shared simple healthy meals of veggies and fruits
Listened to music and watched videos.
It was my pleasure to share with you,
My daily music adventures stories,
Traveled from MCC, MC to MUni,
The heavy weight on my shoulders,
Carried those fruits of your favor,
Delivery to you at the front door,
Patiently waited till your second home closed,
How happy I was to see you,
The moment you washed and munched those fruits.
Now, all that lives only in my memories.

Mauricio, the merry moose
in Lanny Locke’s garden let loose.
He munched on mulberries,
chips, chestnuts and cherries.
The produce he poached was profuse!
His cousin, Carol the cute caribou
consumed cucumber, cabbage and cashews;
and Kory the cute koala
wandered down from Walla Walla
bringing broccoli, beans and barbecue!

pitter patter drips drops and plops
blathers blatters splatters sploshes and drips
bitter twitter twatters and twaddles, flips and flops
chitter chatter babbles claptrap baas and blahs
slithering sliding slues, slips and skips
blotches mottles splotches and spots scars and mars
splutter flutter splatter clatters, a kick-started motorcar
crunched cracked munched and punched the whacked gears strips
hipping and hopping, skipping and bop bop bopping, we're not going far

THE DOG-GED LIE
In a house on a bustling street,
Lived a pup with paws and fur so neat.
His owner, a young lad of just ten,
Made a promise to his furry friend, Ben.
"Dear dog," the boy did solemnly vow,
"I'll confess to my teacher, I swear it now,6
That you munched on my homework, oh so sly,
But please, don't give me that not-guilty eye."
The dog just woofed and wagged his tail,
He knew the boy's plan would surely fail.
But to humor his lazy friend, he played along,
Knowing the outcome would sound all wrong.¹²
The next day at school, in front of the class,
The boy's face turned red, oh what a farce!
"Teacher," he stammered, "I must confess,
My dog ate my homework...oh what a mess!"
The teacher just chuckled and shook her head,
"Nice try, my dear boy," she kindly said.¹8
But the dog at home let out a sly grin,
Knowing he'd never get in trouble for this sin.
And so, the boy and his furry mate,
Shared a phony secret that was so great.
Telling the truth would be tough, so it seem,
The boy & his dog made a fraudulent team.²4

In all of the United States,
Four pandas still remain,
Until next year, when they’ll return
Back home to their terrain.
So being in Atlanta,
Where these bears are on display,
We visited the zoo and had
A most delightful day.
Of course, we watched the pandas
As they munched on their bamboo,
But there were much more interesting
Animals on view.
My favorites were gorillas,
For we saw them interact,
As they beat their chests at kith or kin
Then sneakily attacked.
The pandas got us to the zoo
And I’m so glad they did,
The way aromas can entice
To what’s beneath the lid.

LIGHT VERSE AND NONSENSE VERSE IX
Disconcerted
by Michael R. Burch
Meg, my sweet,
fresh as a daisy,
when I’m with you
my heart beats like crazy
& my future gets hazy ...
The Less-Than-Divine Results of My Prayers to be Saved from Televangelists
by Michael R. Burch
I’m old,
no longer bold,
just cold,
and (truth be told),
been bought and sold,
rolled
by the wolves and the lambs in the fold.
Who’s to be told
by this worn-out scold?
The complaint department is always on hold.
Alas, Sir Munchalot!
by Michael R. Burch
You ate too much,
your common lot;
you munched too much,
so now you’ve got
a gut.
Hadrian’s Elegy
by Michael R. Burch
My delicate soul,
now aimlessly fluttering ... drifting ... unwhole,
former consort of my failing corpse ...
Where are we going—from bad to worse?
From jail to a hearse?
Where do we wander now—fraught, pale and frail?
To hell?
To some place devoid of jests, mirth, happiness?
Is the joke on us?

Cracked often reminds me of pecan nuts.
Cracked also reminds me of earthquake scars.
Mostly cracked reminds me of Jerry Butts
Who loved driving Italian racing cars.
When he drove, Jerry often munched cashews,
While wildly weaving down roads he would choose.
Jerry switched cashews for sunflower seeds.
Spitting split shells out at a breakneck pace,
Once some flew back and lashed his bearded face.
With shells dancing in his eyes, he raced on.
That was the last time Butts cracked any nuts.
His sports car cracked on a fresh earthquake scar.

in a darkened cinema
she squeezed my hand
while next to her
he munched popcorn – oblivious
she wanted to show me
she was mine not his
if i wanted
confused and unsure
i froze
fact was
he turned out to be no good for her
or she him
sometimes
i wish
then I think not
a squeeze is an ask
there is no question attached
- until later

From storied myths, unicorns surface,
though hard to see for they're shy.
As dusk pauses and stars show purpose,
they visit dreams in slumber's soft sigh,
yet, sometimes seen in blink of an eye.
Unicorns play in fields of clover--
planting four-leafs, and moreover,
they gather stars that fell in night,
for snug replacing naughty rovers.
(A missing star may spoil the starlight.)
If, by some quite rare happenstance,
one should appear to a lonely child,
catching unicorn in her shy glance
as it munched clover, near flowers wild
seeing unicorn, little one smiled.
Unicorns fit best in childhood dreams.
They dwell with faeries and elves, it seems.
Along with magic only children see--
friendly dragons, or flights with moonbeams,
...not impossible for you and me.

I remembered a foolish thing I did, oh no!
Decided to bought food at the drive through,
So hungry to eat but forgot my drink,
I opened my car and went inside the place
Going somewhere to park,
But it seems the place was too dark,
Never mind, I’m so hungry to worry,
But what I ate makes my eyes blurry.
Munched my food hurriedly,
Felt something hard as I chewed toughly,
A coin at the tomato sauce, Oh what a night!
It fell down on my food as I sealed the plastic tight!
As I threw my left-over at the bin,
Something was missing, my feet felt thin,
Didn’t wear my shoes the whole time!
I’d removed it as I entered my car.

she squealed
fear weaving
bark in her face
munched on robbed dog food
of one wealthy
as she starves
she's poor
kneeled

Beyond the Black Fence
By Sy Roth
The land lay fallow
Beyond the black fence.
Growth once dressed in a white blanket of hoar in winter landscapes
Lush in summer months
Deer speckled backdrop
Munched all day behind a scrim of lush camouflage
And black birds rested on the scrub
Coupled with the land and each other
A fornucopia of perpetuation.
But like time
It marched in to war on its own turf--
The cranes, yellow tractor-footed creatures
Tore at the soil and formed mountains of dirt
That wild (plants?) draped over
And the long-necked (?) concrete spreaders
Filled the gaping foundations with its gray slush
And the deer fled
And the black birds had resting places on the open rooftops
And the last trees crumbled to the diesel monsters
Where future houses will stack itself with the firewood
Of septuagenarians and those who aspire to end that race.
Incessant noise of change
A cock-a-doodle-doo alarm
On the other side of the black fence
My side where I find comfort in a book
And a drink to whet my appetite
And conjure up the images of the verdant green that once was
And the hoary land that once was my winter vista
