Marta decided to garden herself happy
It was the thing she used to love to do
with her grandparents, Big Pappy
and her grandmother, Nora Sue.
They had spent many hours planting their seeds
Hoeing, tilling, raking, and getting rid of weeds
their bounty came in July, and sometimes in June
They were still working, singing a communal tune.
Big pappy would whistle, Nora Sue would hum.
Marta planted her garden, chewing her gum
Putting seed packages on stakes so she would remember
what she had planted; what she would can in September
As she made these new memories, she remembered her roots.
Her apple trees were generous, they provided her fruits.
Carrots, cabbages, corn and pumpkins came along this July.
She smiled at the heavens, feeling her grandparents in the sky.

Marta’s other pets were jealous and sore
They had been replaced by one she did adore
A stupid pig! Groused the myna bird.
The dragon was angry, but said not a word.
yellow cat waited for her chance to annoy the pig, named Pooh.
She tore up the kitchen and tried to blame him too.
Marta saw through it and gave the cat a dustpan and broom.
You will clean this up and also the dining and living room.
Now the cat was irritated, and tried to complain to the dragon.
He knew better than to get involved, he rode away in a wagon.
His last owner had also fallen in love with a large pink pig.
He decided to live with a new family, Mr. and Mrs. Dig.

tiger cat was scary the first little bit
stopped Marta in her tracks as she saw fit
Come closer dearie, said the large tiger cat
Let me down some light kibbles as we have a chat
When she saw his humor and story-telling skills
she got over her fear of possibly becoming one of his kills

Aunt Marta’s instructions blew out the window
Seconds before I got to her home in Glasgow.
I knew I was on the right block, but which one was she?
I heard a tiny mewing kitten, who tried to lead me.
Who is your mistress? Could it be my Aunt? I asked.
Scooped up wiggling scared kitten, no dauntless task.
Aunt Marta came to greet me at her gate with a cat.
I was worried, she said, wondering where you were at.
I handed the kitten over and began to sneeze.
Maybe it is all the flowers, pollen on the breeze.
It’s probably the cats, she said leading me into the house.
With hundreds of kittens, I doubt that she has a mouse.

Plucky Jamaica shocks the Copa America winners, Brazil, in a scoreless draw that propels the Reggae Girlz to the knockout stage for the first time in only their second Women’s World Cup, and with only one goal in Group stage. Contrast that with Brazil’s first group-stage exit since the 1995 World Cup. Not the best way for Brazil’s mighty Marta Vieira da Silva to end her sixth and final Women’s World Cup.
beautiful chaos
‘how the mighty have fallen’—
Reggae Girlz advance

Poetry notes:
"Oh How the Mighty Have Fallen" is a phrase that originates from 2 Samuel 1:19, an expression of David's lament over the death of Saul and Jonathan. It is also used today as a phrase to imply the decline of a once-great person or entity.

Marta is tiny, looks unassuming, and humble.
Studies her Bible, quietly, without expecting applause.
No one double crosses her though; knowing her champion.
Feeling His disdain if they disparage her.

Marta lived in a dark place, shutters perpetually drawn.
Shutting out the world, the sun, people, any sign of life
It happened gradually after her husband left.
He blamed her for their only child’s death.
She had two friends who came over for months, trying to coax her out.
It did not happen. She stopped going out. Her groceries were delivered.
She never brought them in until the delivery person was gone.
One snoopy neighbor used to watch for her to run out and grab, but she died.
There was only one person on the block who might have remembered Judy.
Judy was a happy child, considering her parents were both heavy drinkers.
She was killed in the road one night by a hit and run driver.
No one was caught; she had only been nine at the time.
Mrs. Weatherbee used to come by, but she had her own family now, a life.
Besides, Marta did not let her in, only would talk through the door.
She blamed herself for her child’s death. Sometimes wondering if she
was the hit and run driver; not remembering for she had a black out that night.
It was not a good life
But she had her TV
and that was enough
for the likes of her.

I only compare myself to six
Trixie is fierce and independent
Biting and clawing her way to the top
of the totem pole
in the form of a hawk
We back off and let her be
Faerie Queen is a good girl,
doing what she can to keep peace
soothing everyone except
Trixie whom she avoids
flying away, fear of being eaten
Sam is a black puma,
with a thick tail,
He looks at you with those
slanted green eyes, and you
know you have been devoured
and eaten, back broken, head first
No one double crosses Sam
Marta is pure mess
She loves piles upon piles upon piles
Sorting and cleaning are things she scoffs
Feeling her creativity would die if she did
Cassha is curiously flitting from idea to ideal
Searching in vain for something new in the world
Marveling at anything she finds that she had never
dreamed of or found before
Ph'la is a pouter. She wants her own way
Gets angry mad and fast if she does not get it.
We all steer clear of her,
hoping she will not move our face.
Our face is a pure glare when Ph'la is in charge of us.
Trixie and Faerie Queen together cannot fix the face
after Ph'la gets going. We are trying though, we truly are.

For Craig's contest Music by Marta Keen
By Your Side
INTRO
I know you think, I've gone and left you
Leaving tears to fill your eyes
I would never leave you darling
For you and I, there's no goodbyes
There's a fate that does await us
It's a fate, we can't denied
But as long, as I can love you
I'll be forever by your side
The clock was ticking, and we knew it
Time was never on our side
But true love shall last forever
and in its realm we shall abide
I will rest here in the meadow
Before I join you in the sky
And I promise that forever
I'll be yours and you'll be mine
I know for now, we share a sorrow
And in our hearts a certain pain
But we must look towards the morrow
To be together once again
The clock was ticking ,and we knew it
Time was never on our side
But true love shall last forever
and in its realm we shall abide
I will rest here in the meadow
Before I join you in the sky
And I promise that forever
I'll be yours and you'll be mine
I'll be yours and you'll be mine

Woh chale bhi gaye to kia hua
Mein unhein roz yaad karta hoon
Dil mein rehta he bus khayal unka
Un hee kee dhun mein jeeta marta hoon
Kon hoon mein? samajh na paya kabhi
Khoj mein kion Khuda kee
rehta hoon?
Loag kuch aur hee samajhte hein
Soach per unki aahein bharta hoon.
Sochta hoon ke mein bhi mar jata
Jab teri qabr se guzarta hoon
Teri ruswaee ka he khauf
mujhe
Warna mein kab kisi se darta hoon?

Jab Meri Bechaini Mit Jayegi
Jab Mere Dilko Sukoon Mil Jayega
Yeh Khaalipan Mit Jayega
Do Pal Ki Chandni Ke Liye
Aj Bhi Zinda Hoon Main
Meri Khaamoshi Ke Ageh Aasmaan Bhi Khatam Ho Jayega
Kehne Ke Liye Toh Roz Marta Hoon Main
Thoda Aur Marne Ke Liye
Yeh Deewana Kal Phir Ayega
