Juneteenth Independence Day, Freedom Day
Emancipation Day – commemorates the end of slavery
In the United States
Most States that is
There are 20 states still holding out
In 1863 slaves were freed
Texas withheld the information
It wasn't until 1865 that the slaves were
finally told by soldiers at the end of the war.
Union Army Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger rode into
Galveston, Texas, and issued General Order No. 3
Proclaiming that the enslaved
African Americans there were free.
Let us be brave and not hide history and rejoice in
the emancipation day.

Jubilant celebrations ring out all over the
United States of America each year on the
Nineteenth of June, to be exact; commemorating the
Emancipation proclamation. What a happy day it is, and was!
Tens of thousands of enslaved Black people saw the
End of slavery in America, finally. Hallelujah! It's a day
Ebulliently marked with parades, street fairs, cookouts, et al.
Not a federal holiday, which is a crying shame! In Galveston,
Texas, on June 19, 1865, freedom bells joyously rang!
History thanks Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger who set it in motion.
Fun fact: I kicked off my contest debut with a "Juneteenth" theme.

(This is a brief summary of the Battle of Fredericksburg that occurred from December 11-15 in the year 1862. The American Civil War was raging on and mistakes made by Maj. Gen. Ambrose Burnside resulted in one of the Union Army's worst defeats during the war.)
In 1862, Burnside had a plan of attack.
He marched his army across the river Rappahannock.
It was a foolish move.
He should have known it then.
But he ordered his troops across a field that became known as the Great Slaughter Pen.

I went for a pint with The Queen
and tried to avoid being seen:
her voice was too loud
to blend in the crowd,
and jokes that she told were obscene.

My Imagination.
If I could imagine just for a day,
if I met the Queen
well, what I might say!
Excuse Maj
I'd like to try.
But wait a minute,
no I'm too shy.
But then again
she's just in my dream.
Nothing is real or what it seems.
So it's OK to imagine
it's only a dream.
Just what I might say
if I met the Queen.
