Longshot Poems

I Wish Someone Told Me

I wish someone told me
That the world was worse off than I thought
That things are worse than what you can see

I wish that someone said this is how it is going to be:
Making it in this world is a longshot
And you will likely come up empty

I wish that someone told me
That there are many who are distraught
And many who do not know what it means to be truly free

I wish that someone said this is how it is going to be:
They expect you to fix problems they forgot
Though the things to fix, you cannot see

I wish that someone told me
That there are some things that cannot be taught
And those things define your reality

But how do we sort through this debris?
How do we face this onslaught?
“Well, it’s your job to find the key.”

They say President Biden's brains are fried
Not by a longshot, Mrs. Biden cried ~
    Joe just went to Ireland
And never got tired, man ~
Though he couldn't recall it when he tried

Premium MemberThe Ones That Got Away

The big fish lost cause you forgot the net
The lottery ticket, one number away
The purr of Kitten before it went stray
The stake you lost on a longshot bet
The angry words you’ll always regret
The trip to France, the unforeseen delay
The golden chance that ain’t come yet
The prefect stranger, you never met
The absent father, after he left to stay
The wild child who was forever fey
The hope for tomorrow, the fear of today
The one of your dreams, who
had dreams of their own

Premium MemberSomeone Just Like Me

"I'd bet on Someone Just Like Me", the lovely stranger said.
"I know the odds are long, but I just have this lucky feeling!"
The bookies gave a 10 to 1 for her prized thoroughbred,
I knew the odds for Reader Of The Stars were more appealing.

I placed my bet, the race began, my horse led out and out,
He passed by Harry Trotter, and had Hay Girl on the run,
He'd hold off Maple Stirrup, and beat Princess Peach, no doubt
But then, as though she'd seen a crystal ball, her longshot won!

Just like her odds, my hopes seemed dim in searching for a wife.
I hoped that lovely stranger at the track might be my honey -
The lucky day I'd longed for she would enter in my life?
I looked - the woman of my dreams was gone, just like my money.

Premium MemberBoxing Gloves and Dead Sea Scrolls

Dark thoughts twitching on a nightstand.
Wrinkled -bloated-bloodied.
Like an ancient boxing glove.
Powerless-broken-longshot.

A dead sea scroll- smoldering.
In the chambers of a burned-out heart.

I Am Me

I am the long shot.
I am the one they never so coming.
I am the life beat of a heart once dying.
I am the old horse that keeps kicking.
I am truth in a world that keeps lying.
I am the runner who though the race ends,
Keeps running.
I am the dancer who keeps moving,
Though the curtains falling.
I am the raindrop that split the earth
I am the straw that broke the camel’s back
I am the bullet the vest couldn’t catch
I am the arrow the armour couldn’t stop
I am the pebble that cracked Goliath’s skull
I am the hair grown back on Samson’s head
I am the longshot
I am the manifestation of a revolution
I am the symbol of a new generation
I am the underdog who becomes champion
I’m Del Monte: picked, not just chosen
I am the voice they can’t mum
I am the song hope cant stop but hum
I am the last of a dying breed
Yet its hope that i bleed
I’m he whose passion is a creed
Created by God’s decree
I am the ‘f’ that made lame hot like flame
I am the ‘g’ that made low glow
I am change. I am difference. I am uniqueness
I am wine from The true vine
I am what you cannot be
I AM ME!

Where Is Hollywood, By the Way?

Red River overflows ...
North Dakota everyone knows
Where are all the movie stars aid?
Where are their phony dramatic shows?
North Dakota helped to build them up too,
that is why we cite this review.
Where is their help and fanfare?
Why haven't they traveled there?
Where is their help?
There are dire needs...
Perhaps they'll come, after the water recedes.
