MY WAY
I see reflections of my life, how I arrived
at this stage of my telling life, the phase I thrive.
Was a curious child with too many questions
that I kept to myself from my keen attention
for inquiries from a child were not welcoming.
Was hard to conform to ways, so disenchanting.
I was a rebel without a cause inside me
for showing off good reputation was not me.
Like going to church every Sunday was for show
for following and applying scriptures were low.
Complain, compare and criticize were always said.
Whatever is true, praiseworthy were not impelled.
Verbal abuse were there too, mean words stabbing you,
affecting your belief, doubting their love for you.
The kind of environment they grew up, passed on
to next generation and could continue on.
I was a problem child for not caring about
others’ opinions of me, I could go without.
Being different was not easy; but being
myself, staying positive gave my life meaning.

No Extra Innings
Baseball games are won by keeping score,
But hold no interest for me any more.
I realized, when it became clear to me,
How like relationships the game can be.
The pitcher I knew threw devious curves,
Many from which I just couldn't swerve.
I took his pitches, but I refused the blame
For all the errors in our relationship game.
Fans in the bleachers, supported both teams.
There were lots of jeers, taunts, and screams.
A sneer on the pitcher's face said it all...
He changed from sliders to throw hardballs.
I stepped back, away from the plate.
Was that look in his eyes one of hate?
This game was no longer played for fun.
I heard a gruff voice call out..."Strike one."
His fans were shouting out lame excuses
For his anger, his cursing, and verbal abuse.
But while trying to decide what I should do,
I felt a tear fall. The Ump called..."Strike two."
I couldn't go on, so I threw down my bat.
To the pitcher I bowed and then tipped my hat.
The next pitch would've been the death of me.
I covered my ears not to hear..."Strike Three."
The game ended quickly with no extra innings.
Neither side counted it a triumph of winning.
The bleachers were empty, and so was my heart.
Games can be brutal and tear people apart.
Strapped to the outside, looking back in,
Not welcome to where he was from,
Staring from out, discarded to scrap,
Even though he’d done nothing wrong,
And nobody cared how cold he became,
How cold he became deep inside,
Nobody cared for his emotional life,
Nobody knew he’d resigned,
From living the life of the get up and go,
Of saying a yes on a whim,
Of being the one to create happiness,
Leaving everyone there with a grin,
Because he’d reacted to anger, reacted to rage,
Reacted with emotional truth,
Because he’d reacted to insults and hurt,
He’d reacted to verbal abuse.
Contessa remember you’re an epicure,
don’t let him make you feel insecure;
I know that they can’t see the pain
slapped with all of his words on your face;
I know that words CAN and DO hurt you,
breaking bones that will no longer bend;
Amplified and thrown up by the taste of
alcohol it loses its voice in a crowd,
all they’re privileged to is a people pleaser;
Verbal abuse is a silent killer
until it’s just the two of you alone together;
It’s about time to end the silence,
put an end to the punch drunk violence;
Turn the tables on all the wounds
that no one can see but still they bleed;
Always told let it slide let it go,
well here’s something you need to know:
It’s okay to say no and take care of you.
Contessa, feelings are always valid.
Don’t let him make you feel insecure,
Contessa remember you’re an epicure.
the children are crying
again there's trouble in the house
their mother's in the corner all bloodied
and cowering like a mouse
the father, the husband
who calls himself the king
seems to only dispense verbal abuse
and violent beatings
the police have been called
but she won't have him arrested
she thinks her faith, beliefs
and vows are being tested
her friends can't understand why
she won't just get away
her family is praying that
he won't kill her some day
domestic abuse seems to be on the up-rise
yet society always seems to be shocked and surprised
you'll hear people say, "they seem like a very nice couple"
but behind those closed doors there's nothing but violent struggles
the children are always looking neat on their way to school
they seem very shy and the mother acts somewhat cool
but inside that house no one really has a clue
of the level of domestic violence and abuse
You were always so good
At hiding yourself in the dark
I tried and I tried
To throw you out
Of the furthest
recesses of my mind
And somehow
you are still there
Embedded in
the deepest crevices
of my brain
Where I couldn't see you
Lurking there
in the blackness
For thirty years
Waiting ...
for one of those days
When I'm down and out
So you can kick her
When she's already on the ground
Fighting ...
to get back on her feet
Knees buckling
Remembering how
to stand again
One day at a time
Before taking my first steps
Recalling well enough
How to believe
How to smile
How to run
From the darkness
And away into the sun
Where you can't hide from me
Where light and heat
Disintegrates you to dust
Revealing all
That you are and were
Until there is nothing
left of you
To blow on the wind
… Out of sight
Out of mind ...
One day at a time.
Thoughts of my abuse courageously spirals out of control
No drug in this world can conquer this raw resilience…..
Its ability to conivingly creep up with silence leaves the deepest wounds
The pain is unbearable I have yet to understand this power of a weapon in which wins each torment
Let alone in the utmost cunningly yet destructive way
Im defeated and weakness follows so forth comes embarrassment
How do i lack such intelligence
The approach was Louder than a lions chilled skin roar.
Forgiveness knocks but mercy is not welcomed
No excuses can fulfil comfort towards complete lazy Disappointment……..
Each night brings me to my knees as tears fall heavy like the most powerful minnesota treacherous flooding lakes
Visualizing what surrounds me are only false hope and Broken unpairable glass
Each piece screams such ear reckon evil words verbal abuse
so damaged and runned down that hope is no longer in my dictionary of self motivational fall back techniques I have created for myself
While no one knows the real secret of how my own mind is responsible for unanswered closures or true self healing
Its a simple Commonsense math equation
FLASHBACKS MULTIPLIED BY ABUSE EQUALS DEEP CUTS LEFT WITH BLACK AND BLUE MARKS THAT BRUISED
Taken amongst places far from this limited man built world
I was a new mother being stripped of all my female qualities and told I’m worthless his sloppy seconds was all that I deserved.
Father and son never saw eye to eye, too much jealousy on the patriarch side
He constantly put his son down for everything he did, competing incessantly
One day the son had enough and walked away, there was nothing else to do
Father and son reunion
you can't peel an onion
without crying a few tears
Ten long years passed with neither one saying a word to each other.
Then one day he found a loving woman who opened his heart, he forgave.
They re-connected only to find out his father had left him out of the will
Anger is a monster
wearing a holster
with a loaded gun
Abuse kept creeping in just like the old days. Verbal abuse returned
Then the day came when Father got sick and he drove him to the hospital
Son tried to make amends and tell his dad he loved him, he was rebuked
Death can devour ego
and teach you to let go
or pride can win
"Get out" he screamed to his son at his death bed. Adam was left, broken.
It takes years to come to terms with abuse, He died November last year
An empath at heart he cries at the drop of a hat. Most gentle man I ever met
I should know, he is my future son in law and I am proud of him.

Ego shorn, here now reborn
so easy to talk to
rarely do i hear from her
so sad it is always the ones that are the most enjoyable
he put you down via verbal abuse
now you are protective of your heart and the way you openly give
so sad it is always that version that i always end up meeting
so fun to forget about life for a while with you
tomorrow the usual and the norm will return
so sad that i will never get to know or experience The Real You in person
he broke your heart and her confidence
he was the main constructor of your unexpected inferiority complex
so sad to read the hidden codes underneath the smiling tonalities of your replies
so grateful to know that i have you as a friend
so proud for the privilege to experience the benevolent side of you
so good to know that i always make your day better by making you smile
What more could I have done? I'd already taken far too much.
There was no more gentleness in your voice, nor in your touch.
Your cursing and verbal abuse eroded all my respect for you.
I tried to help fight your demon; something only you could do.
Our home became just a house. We lived under the same roof
but stormy weather poured in from your bottle of 100 proof.
With a sob in my throat, I walked away from you while crying.
Your lies and accusations ripped me apart and left me dying.
life is sifting sand
I still wear your wedding band
upon my left hand
There was no getting back what we lost when you caused my fears.
How did I swallow the disappointment? I washed it down with tears.
The finale' came the night you slammed my hand in the door.
The only broken bone I ever had; I couldn't take it any more.
What else could I have possibly done to keep from losing you?
It was too late when you lost yourself, and now we're through.
Sometimes I wish we'd never met. You deceived me from the start.
I will never regret loving you, and I've forgiven you in my heart.
life is sifting sand
you removed your wedding band
gone from your left hand
Once my world revolved all around you, my sunny days and skies of blue.
Now you're just a stranger, someone I once loved, someone I once knew.
