Premium Member How Do Children Sleep At Night

It's a wonder young children still turn out all right
With the stuff that gets crammed in their heads every night.
Things like visions of sugar plum fairies and sprites,
Or a thousand tales of Arabian delights,
A frog who turns prince with a kiss from a lass,
A girl who goes dancing in slippers of glass,
A cow that gets high and jumps over the moon,
A crockery dish that elopes with a spoon,
A boy who can fly but refuses to grow,
A difficult girl who plants maids in a row,
A magician who wants to trade old lamps for new,
A woman so poor she must live in a shoe,
A waif who sells matches out in the cold,
A king who can touch things and turn them to gold,
A dog, an old woman, a cupboard that's bare,
A girl locked in a tower, a ladder of hair,
A magical wheel that spins gold out of straw,
A guy helps a lion with a thorn in its paw,
A girl wearing red visits grandma who's resting,
Finds a wolf in her nightdress and Granny digesting,
Three kids and a wardrobe, three men share a tub,
A brave tailor kills seven mean flies with a club,
An archer makes merry with men in the woods
While relieving the rich of their money and goods,
Kind huntsman, fair princess, a vain evil queen,
Seven dwarves, and a prince who gets caught in between,
Hateful fairy, a baby, a hundred-year snit
'cause her name's accidentally left off a guest list,
A piper who lures out of town rodent varmints,
An emperor with new but invisible garments,
A farmer's wife butchers three handicapped mice,
A house drops on top of a witch who's not nice,
While another with gingerbread children seduces
Then gets baked by some twins in her own savory juices,
A giant and a beanstalk, a cat who wears boots,
A wolf who's outfoxed by three pigs in cahoots,
A bad little boy who sticks fingers in pies,
And another of wood whose nose grows when he lies.

There are others, of course, far too many to mention,
But I hope these will serve to excite some attention.
With stories like these knocking 'round in their heads,
It's no wonder if kids toss and turn in their beds.
Yet throughout countless ages these stories survive,
Kids listen, and dream them, and still wake up alive,
No worse for having been charmed or affrighted,
Imaginations are stoked, little minds are ignited,
And continue to hold them in dear veneration
As they pass them along to the next generation.

The Word of Eternal God
Which is the power of Eternal God for salvation to everyone who has faith
Is set forth
Displays its power in a most wonderful way in the writings of the New Testament
Which hand on the ultimate truth of Eternal God’s Revelation
Their central object is Jesus or Father Christ
Eternal God’s incarnate Son
His acts
Teachings
Mission and glorification
His Church’s beginnings under the spirit’s guidance

The Gospels are the heart of all Scriptures
Because they are our principal source for the life
Teaching of the incarnate Word
Our Savior

We can distinguish three stages in the formation of the Gospels

The life and teaching of Jesus or Father Christ
The Church holds firmly that the four Gospels
Whose historicity she unhesitatingly affirms
Faithfully hand on what Jesus
The Eternal Son of Eternal God
While He lived among men
Really did and taught for their salvation
Until the day when He was taken up

The oral tradition
For
After the ascension of the Lord
The apostles handed onto their hearers what they had said and done
But with fuller understanding which they
Instructed by the glorious events of Father Christ
Enlightened by the spirit of truth
Now enjoyed

The written Gospels
The sacred authors
In writing the four gospels
Selected certain of the many elements which had been handed on
Either orally or already in written form
Others they senthesized or explained with an eye to the situation of the Churches
While sustaining the form of preaching
But always in such a fashion that they have told us the honest truth about Jesus

The fourfold Gospel holds a unique place in the Church
As is evident both in the veneration which the liturgy accords it
In surpassing attraction it has exercised on the saints at all times

There is no doctrine which could be better
More precious
More splendid than the text of the Gospel
Behold and retain what our Lord and Master
Father Christ
Has taught by His words and accomplished by His deeds

But above all it’s the Gospels that occupy my mind when I’m at prayer
My poor soul has so many needs
Yet this is the one thing needful
I’m always finding fresh lights there
Hidden and enthralling meanings

"When God given gift is mistaken as self earned power, people become arrogant and arrogance leads to fall" By Poet.

The crow we see, was once a beautiful bird
Sweet as a lark and white as a swan
The world stood in rapturous glee
As he poured out melodies with such elan

Proud and haughty over his gorgeous form
He reckoned himself to be the crown of creation
To all other birds he was a cynosure of charm
And he feasted on their praises of mad veneration

Presumptuously dwelling on altitudes high
He thought the world was revolving round him
Looking at others with contempt and disdain
He wanted everyone to dance to his whim

At morn when other birds twittered and chirped
And sang devotional lays in praise of God,
The crow refused to sing any song
As he deemed himself to be far above the Lord

God wanted to teach the arrogant bird a lesson
A messenger with warning from Heaven was sent
‘Unless you turn humble and with respect others treat
God’s wrath will fall and you shall lament’

Sneering at this and rebuking the terrestrial envoy,
With haughty arrogance, the crow went his way.
By dusk, he flew down to perch on a tree
Alas, the branch gave way to his utter dismay!

Losing balance, he slid down into a can of tar
Disappointed was he as he emerged all black
But hoped that a dip in water would wash away the dirt
And once more he would be, to his former self back

Soon God’s messenger with ire reappeared in a vision
This time, stark were his words of admonition
‘Henceforth you and your progeny will all be black
Ugly in appearance, scavengers you shall be known!

‘In place of the tuneful melody, you were blessed
Your sound will be sonorous and rough’
Saying this, the apparition vanished out of sight
And the crow knew his life ahead would be tough

He waited impatient for the dawn to break
Before all other birds were up and awake
He decided to try and test his sound
And was startled at what came in the wake

“Caw…. Caw…. Spurted the sound from his beak
Jarring and raucous, harsh and husky!
While other birds laughed over and celebrated his fall
The poor defeated crow was left grouchy and dusky

Wired mortal from the English Art
Banished from his home, spotted from a distance
Noble amongst scrawling African inscriptions
First veneration of mystical minds
Take a bow, take a bow.

Obliterating deliberate disregard
From interrupters of our histories,
With trophies, allays a regret and loss
So little for so great a heart,
Take a bow, take a bow.

Liberal lord of limpid looks
Grand philosophy too many for little minds,
Art of African arts
Impenetrable obscurity to the impatient,
Take a bow, take a bow.

Entangled genus in the darkest harbor,
Found in a waste howling wilderness,
Left to die in the gaols like their many kills,
And death too weak, spewed him in his flowers
Take a bow, take a bow.

Scrupulous dexterity of the bearded laurel
Multitudinous nobility and countless soothing saccharine
A restoration of our dignity not celebrated, and un-sung.
Tyrannous candor engulfed intelligential
Take a bow, take a bow.

Obdurate at the palaces of murderers
Smiling at military cavalcades, the terror of comrades.
Where barrels pacify the wrangling of children men.
A beholding bluff like Ogun’s iron garb
Take a bow, take a bow.

Yea, the snow-like signature in scraggy form
Impresses nature’s validity on his authority,
Corroding flesh lacerate aptness from his brow
Gyrating orbits of unmatched intelligence
Take a bow, take a bow.

Invisible man from the “kongi” kingdom
Imposing trepidation on pharaohs in the jungle,
Brawny penchant where others retire,
On Lagos streets and London’s courtyard
Take a bow, take a bow.

Nibble in niggle, stripping rogues of honor
Loathing unsavory milk unlike sycophants
Discarding opulence to mediate for the poor
With no reward or crown in intention
Take a bow, take a bow.

Knack for wars with imperious monsters
A constant blustery of unrepentant “Vagabonds”
Dusk till dawn, yearning for Justice.
Crying still, for murdered motherland
Take a bow, take a bow.

And if he dies tomorrow,
As death to all must come,
His posture, a statue for ever,
On our minds and in those rulers of the jungle.
Take a bow, take a bow.

Our Models

We came here pretentious, egoistic, hyper-inflated with our meager academic laurels and
filled with self-adulation of our GPAs
You saw us plainly; our minds almost blank like a tabular rasa, but you saw potential and
so gently humbled us with IAs
Under the aegis of your golden rules, we learnt to know when to be silent and when to
“Always say something”

We needed to know the anatomy of this new education in order to rectify the pathologies of
our time
With your fatherly scalpels, you dissected the courses into absorbable pieces
You nurtured us and gave us a rather microscopic view of life so we can appreciate the
people around us
Even when the rigors of the academics struck us dumb, you were there to repolarise our
neurons with your fraternal voice; “Think folks!”

When complacency and indolence set in, you shook us up in a booming tone “It’s your job to
know!” and whet our hunger for knowledge
You gave us faith and pushed us to our limits till we saw distinctions right ahead of us
When we were almost tired and the world saw us hyperventilating and palpitating with fear
of referrals,
You transfused us with more knowledge, healed us and saved us at the phase of irreversible
shock and resuscitated us to be the best we could be
When we were back on our feet and had something to offer, you stood by, reminding us never
to judge others especially our patients
But to strive to put a smile on the faces of others

As if that were not enough, your chemoprophylaxis for us was holistic enough
To instill in our hearts a strong sense of selflessness with high doses of patriotism
running through our veins
Indeed your love for us is broad spectrum.

Today our hearts are filled with utmost gratitude
For you have placed us at an academic altitude
So we can have something to offer our generation
Our lips will continue in ceaseless veneration
At your polymorphic roles in our lives
For you are our teachers, our parents and our role models

We may twist and turn the queen’s language in your praise
We may shower gifts and awards
We may mimic your voices and behave like you
All we want to say is “We deeply love you, our dear lecturers.”

Far-off Call : The Cry of the Writer’s Ink to an Anonymous Reader

O some day to come, it may be that time will bury my memory deep as the hidden sleep of those who lie in some forgotten churchyard;
but my judgment is that the future holds for me a fadeless crown of amaranth and gold.

O thou Anonymous Reader, when I, a bard whose graces are plenteous, and has a memory like the British Museum Library, and its material arranged as orderly,

When I, a bard, whose words sunset burst upon them with a variety of forms and colors like those the Divine Artist throws upon the evening sky : they are matchless words on birds and flowers and trees,
“Indeed no poet has given us more Nature poetry than he. In it all, one who reads is astonished at his wealth of simile and metaphors, at the music of his lines and the cooling freshness that delights on every page.” says the Scribes of Thebes, the men of the Scrolls of the Elders, the cavemen and Shamans.

When, I, a bard whose lyrics awakens the response in a common man’s breast, and makes him feel stronger for the day’s work and superior to the day’s faults and failures,

Strives in vain, to share my Art’s disgrace
And then I die like the unknown hero in silent rank beside my passion at the birth of dawn,
Without a wreath of laurel for a nation’s thanks,

You O Anonymous Reader, might have a careless glance upon my works!

So then, my dear reader, listen to my far-off call:

For thy sake I sit in the garden of books mating pen and paper with muse just so I could create a piece in our own image by weaving letters into words and words into figurative languages.

And now here it is, the broken thing, the created piece, happily waiting to be read but breathes in nostalgia like a patient peasant, suffering scorn and wrong, to labor in his people.

Why, O Anonymous Reader, do you make critics wonder why the skillful lowly bards write and write when no one seems to read,
When Fame and Success still refuse veneration,
And when the world gives but a wreath of weed?

O pity for thy writers show! When will thou appreciate the work of the ink?
So I may sleep a sleep remorse cannot affright ?

hold still, eventide ...
I am a capricious cad among wraiths,
     waltzing with a mop in
a Marrakesh courtyard - catching stars
as they drip with waxy and
wild wonder, into the braids of my maudlin
noose, tightening

      jangling, dangling ...
rose gold anklets, (wrapped 'round leggy perfection),
 shimmer their hammered facets,
kicking smoke into toroidal hoops with
 raw regard
while they spin, table-top, to a
      Chaabi chant

candles waving their
flames to beckon the darkness close ...
     notes from a punji weave
mystery thru the heavy heat, Henna-striped hands
cradling a bottle, jade green, as the
white flowers gush their cold, gold bounty
down a curvy thigh

      wetly wrapping an unblemished
capuccino calf, Perrier-Jouët trickles off tender
toes to plop, warm, on my
tantalized tongue
I kiss the fuchsia-daubed nails to
show proper veneration, then spin back to
   the murky music, mop-handle
      lover in tow

down to the spinning
tie-dyed rugs and pillows, I surrender all to the
callow flesh there, wanting ... willing
her hair and hide and ebon eyes
dark as delirium, while the brass-headed
   snake-of-a-hookah waits
for a kiss

      long draws bring dizzy
dreams and hypnotic swirls from the lamp,
aromas and an opiate nirvana coiling
around my cares
lost as a lamb, to soft skin ...
   and sweet smoke.

( Jemaa el-Fnaa Square in Marrakesh is one of the most active and exciting places on earth, with exotic foods, snake-charmers, clothes and antique vendors, magicians, dancers, haqle or street theater, storytellers, acrobats, musicians, comedians, water sellers, tattoo artists, carnival acts, even organ-grinders with monkeys, and yes, opium and hashish traders. It has remained largely the same for over a thousand years, and is indeed an important part of history, declared by UNESCO as a "Masterpiece of World Heritage" - if you're ever in Morocco, it is a MUST-see! )
