Childhood Days

I remember a time when I was young
When summers were hot and so, so long
School holidays seemed to go on, and on
Back in my childhood days,

Holidays spent beside the sea
With mother, father and siblings three,
Playing safe, and wild, and free
In my nonchalant, childhood days,

I remember packed lunches on long bike rides,
Jam jar fishing by the riverside
Finding exciting places to hide
In my innocent, childhood days,

Playing with friends down in the park
Not coming home until long after dark
Sleeping outside was such a lark
In my carefree, childhood days,

The summers, now, don’t seem to last
School holidays go by so fast
Long hot days are in the past
Along with childhood days,

Annual vacations, are taken in Spain
With husband and daughters, traveling by plane
To escape the cold, the wind and the rain
Unlike my childhood days

As for our children playing out of sight
It just doesn’t happen, especially at night
In years to come, will these days seem as bright
To my girls, as do my childhood days?

Awoke With Existential Nihilism Since Birthday Two

Initially, an attempt
sought regarding Das scribe,
yours truly donning checkerboarded rawhide
collared, cuffed oversize raiment, pride
and prejudice obscured
courtesy hand-me-downs
couture also decking out

alley oop trapeze artist bride
of Frankenstein grooming in attendance
with her bonafide
circus motley crew, a veritable
monster mish mashup
happenstance didst decide
unlike traditional feted newlyweds
swingers airborne did only abide.

The law of gravity aerial
pas de deux bodies airborne
aloft pledging their respective troths sworn
fleeting suspended animation while shorn
infinitesimally of Earth's pull
only expert can playfully scorn

accomplishment courtesy no greenhorne
neophytes in utero umbilical cord,
taking root as metaphorical acorn,
thus unbridled and groomed skill inborn
burst out the womb like heated popcorn
snapped up since birth well worn

genes Ringling Brothers and
Barnum & Bailey circus practiced morn
till night stunts became second nature
encore performance no matters bodies outworn.
Curtain Call now doth close
unrehearsed poetic gambit,

cuz yours truly tuckered out I suppose
ready to take his doze
zee dough into dreamland, expose
zing oft times confused
with dark shadow of outer limits

of twilight zone, where me lovely bones froze
where sudden night mare arose
gripping courtesy rigor mortis head to toes
daunting wordsmith champion
manifestation of daily woes.

Suddenly me clutched
by melancholic despair
somnambulantly where
countless tomb morrows tramp
scarcely undifferentiated from yesterday's care

wracking psyche with wrath plus fear
at accursed purposelessness near
faux sing myself regarding pas
city to emulate good cheer.

Lands of bounty, yet also so barren
red soil so pungent and full of life
if the monsoon's rains don't fall
a veritable dust bowl you become
great herds teem over your plains
constantly moving following the rains
behind them a land picked clean
only a few tender shoots showing
withering and dying in the midday heat
only to be saved by a short down pour
sleek well fed pride of lions roam
soon their time of plenty over
unlike the herds they stay waiting
for the next herd of animals to come
the giant crocs in the river now well fed
it could be a year before they feast again
all this and so much more means, spellbound
I reflect on African shores that hold close my heart
with love and even tenderness for this great land

Not Vain

I don't talk about you much now,
But that doesn't mean that I've lost the count.
It's exactly been 26 weeks since,
We broke contact.
I said, "People come and go in life",
But deep down I wish that you were unlike.
You're present everywhere around me,
Not physically but always in plea.
Silently you're killing me,
Piece by piece.
You're present everywhere around me,
In my notes app and memory.
In my best friend's messages too,
I feel sorry for what she has to go through.
I confessed to you because I was clueless,
That one text from me will make you ruthless.
The stab you gave me hurt so good,
I slid the knife deeper in my wood.
And the scariest part is yet unspoken,
I know I'll be ready to get my heartbroken.
If I could do what we had all over again,
I would consider myself lucky and not vain.

Premium Member judging poetry contests is not easy

Judging poetry contests is as easy as comparing a hog to a car
Or a tub of lard to a gasoline engine and a movie star
Trying to be objective is not in the equation at all
comparing unlike things to each other is a likely fall

some are witty, others do not follow a single contest rule
I laugh at some, others are so well written they make me drool
Rght away I sort them into piles of two – one good, one not so much.
Cannot divulge my secret, but it would infuriate my Aunt Dutch

She likes everything to fit into a tidy little clean box up high
Judging poems against each other makes me roll an eye
How do you say this one is good, and that one is not
When none share a purpose, is that all you’ve got?

I used to moan and wail and torment myself with the result.
Now when I second guess my finalists, I yell “Halt!”
Just put the top three in a shake up order and try again.
The gold always rises to the top no matter what shape I’m in.

I am a foodie, I must confess, I swim a few laps for exercise
Along come the Mollusk, and to my pleasant surprise
I have no restraint and they look so yummy
I just open my jaws wide, and fill up my tummy

Holy Mackerel, they make quite the feast!
Unlike that deepwater whale; Moby Vic, that lumbering beast
A real blow show, they eat any freak’n thing
Whale diet: Squid, Krill, Larvae, what distaste they bring!

Ah, catching up to the guys, what are they circling ‘round?
Heya Tom, Bill, GW, Anil. Rob, l see you’ve gained a pound
“I’m on a sea-food diet, I see food, I eat it!” Hee hee hee
Yep, you may want to stick to your day job, try a sea-shanty!

Look over there boys, the Seahorses, I hear they work for LYFT
Harry, how’s business, break for some sushi? California Roll, a gift
You may wanna giddy up, plenty of shrimp crawling beneath you
I know how much the Seahorse love to munch crustaceans too

"Shrimp—cockroaches of the sea! Not a kosher food"
Okay GW, what do you eat, my friend, set the mood
Gefilte fish recipe; grind the salmon, red snapper, codfish,
Onions, carrots, add eggs, sugar, salt, white pepper, in a dish
Stir in ice water, add matzo meal and chop, boil, voila, gefilte fish!

To the right of us, why it’s Lady L, my, she is swell
Small crabs on her menu, anything in the sand that dwell
Blowfish is a species that feeds on poison, dangerous to eat
They can’t hunt, they call ‘em puffers, just one puff’s a real treat

Anil, do you believe in sea nymphs on a blue oceanic parade?
Yes, I vision the lovely face of Wendy on the frame of a mermaid
Nil, come on now, aren’t you married, mate
OK, Tom, I’m going home, I won’t be late, I won’t be late

To the right of us the Starfish, greet the ladies of the sea
How they brighten the day, on display, as charming as can be
Pangie, Valsa, Andrea, Paula, Len, Kim, Eve and Gina
I know how you love snails, I bring escargot straight from the Marina

And so, my friends, another lovely day. Join us for our usual Activities and Brunch

As long term aspiring
     gurgling (stream of consciousness)
     paperback writer, there doth appear
an imponderable quandary

     most likely experienced
     by fellow neophyte authors,
     one pesky bugbear
that just dawned, (within the mind

i would bet mine
     bottom dollar and declare

unequivocally established writers
     mentally tussled (or still do),
how to accrue “Art of the book writing deal”

an increasing number of people,
     that definitely feel drawn
     to thy unique flavonoid flair
with words this scrivener displays,

     where oft times decrypting
     (mine block chain) dost jam
at least one cerebral cog and gear
no matter how far away from me,

     this mind can telepathically hear,
colorful epithets, thus
     seriously considering donning,
     summoning, and trumpeting

     his swiftly tailored,
     harried styled interlinear
difficult to interpret ma Bella cos
     mean mien, thus ready

attired in a combination

     (and Caesar) knitwear
and (thrift special red tag sale) leisurewear
oh...preferably gender neutral,

or specifically frilly pink menswear
which could be either

yet absolutely non gaudily
     outlandish most unlike
thine convoluted other worldly
     unfairly punishing stentorian

     idiomatic ling goo whist tricks
driven by a harsh grammatical taskmaster,
     (nonetheless one

burgeoning my popularity,

     yet without being *****

calling for men/women in white coats
to lock up Matthew Scott Harris
     possibly commuting his

ching fellow inmates without ten year!

“One being freed from the grip of Ahamkara attains his unmanifest state like the spotless moon becoming full after eclipse.” ~ quote from the Adhyatma Upanishad

thoughts seem to arise without volition
but mindful eye traces heart as the source
wherefrom vibrations emoted in morse
seek from mind as symbols, their rendition

desires of heart cause intent’s emission
but is the impulse rooted in remorse
ego-driven, prone to applying force,
unlike vast space that has no ambition

negating transience, our ego recedes
and yet object-free awareness remains
whence stepping outside space-time we then see
self-existent light within which love breeds
representing flame of heart free from stains
made in God’s image, vibrant and carefree

Suffering Pig

We found each other in a roadside bar in some desolate place,

she saw me from the other side,

the band that was playing wasn't carrying,
so I decided to let her come approach me...

I carry with me a soft gaze as she politely understands me,

her eyes captured my dreams for the next three days...

It was a heartfelt intervention-

we had a couple drinks,

we understood what the local talk was about,

and with tales becoming tangles,
there became less need for words,

only laughs and strokes,
...following of vibrations around the room,

and the danger...

Because I thought you had forgot-

that one tiny moment in time-

when it happens to me,

oh so fine.

She keeps blessing me with the utmost intelligence,

as I sit not thinking,

like kittens on pedestals,
before they learn to break the rules,

just like energetic fools...

I found character unlike anything I have been able to endure.

But anger evades my soul,

and if I accept anger-
I accept an angry soul,

and if I wished upon a bowl
to solve my whole whole,

I'd tender you gold...

Please make my soul,

in this age of 'you go to school,'

and 'I cant help but drool,'

oh what foreign mystique
could evade those wide eye's?

I know how I fall in far
and then out the other side.

Like my grip on my ride,

on the freeway doin' 95...

Legal as being high in some hippy's eye.

But I am still just a suffering pig
who doesn't eat sorbet,

who justifies readiness
with real time face,

who lives out his days
traditional and gay,

giving out blessings to people who should thank.

Sweetness

His strongest whimsy is in truth
His wieldest joke lies in ugly view
He relates with all unlike sleuth
Just keep being the real best you

He is neither after crown nor tie
Working with him defines freedom
No terms and conditions ever apply
No shaky pay after work in his kingdom

He lives like himself in all time
Jokes have its time as do frown
Hundreds out of the official crime
Will never get to be fried brown

Absorbing rage, showing love
Place him nobly above violence
Keep growing importance, Olive
That winds are arms of benevolence

God bless him and his beautiful heart
Congratulations on your birthday
May your berth be known on earth
Be fulfilled without lucky grace depart
