Blistering drought assembles vacant sun stroke’s radiance
An empty solar ray’s destruction leaves waxing shadows of a doubt
Jennifer’s mental wheel chair is leaking slimy midnight oil
A candle burnt at both ends struggles like thundering whiplash
Metastases have bound her ice-cold soul and vacant mind

Malignant growth revels in cachectic apathy like frosty fire
Passion torched and skinned alive dwells raw in molten agony
Her soul eclipsed fragmented memories have replaced
Once vibrant sparkles suffocated and deprived of joy
Neoplastic gloom’s surrender has high-jacked myriads of love

Lonely lacerations have captured her Self and World and Future
Metastases conform on auto pilot inhabited by grief sadness sorrow
She feels lobotomized but the surgeon’s knife cannot dissect
The hollow solid growth of malignant cantankerous co-optation
For when the topic of her cancer strikes the cure evades salvation

At times the scorching heat unleashes flashing floods of tenterhooks
Incinerates the one remaining hope that terminal means lasting Peace
Environments are feeble though and as she grasps Pandora’s box
Boards falling rapids lets go and meanders to a novel solar system
Evening settles evermore again as Jennifer settles for a rising moon

a tender voice recites, muse’s lyrics flow
non-believers have poisoned Earth Mother's waterways
She unleashes winds blown hotter and dryer
perennial white blossoms swoon midst zephyrs
dangle from sterling chaste trees
twisted maple bark echo braids sacred hair unscathed
gold filters branches
thousand-year rooted Algonquin memories
elders and granddaughters amble amongst crackling twigs
streams pristine align to augur a promising path
within a bison pelt tepee awaits the knowledge keepers embrace
fire and smoke dense and opaque
evoking a bittersweet melancholy
broadleaves tremble breathe and sway
hymn chants of traditional wisdom expel
severed is the braid as is the child from the woman
her nascent efflorescence
transition is significant as we are wedded
and bound to nature’s perennial sentient
let the path before us grow wider and brighter for future generations

When my wayward mind is unsteady,
unbound from the righteous roots of sanctified soul,
the dislodging thrust of the negative sensitivity
unleashes the base instincts to rush feral on sordid trail.

Vanity, anger and greed, innately so compulsive,
distort the ethos of my obdurate ego,
condition the oblique vision to look selfishly at the world,
as the insight turns into an opaque layer.

Beneath the surface of the mortal wisdom,
where my mind builds the edifice of ignoble desires,
the damaging traits lead to the abyss of dark ignorance,
I suffer wandering in the wilderness of barren life.

Deflected from the path shown by the moral compass,
I am sucked within the vortex of the vicious storm,
that breaks me into disillusioned discarded debris,
I then hear the divine voice of conscience.

I perceive life as the epithet of unique acuity,
the matchless construct of the divine elements,
manifest magnificently with the heavenly essence,
encompassing the trinity of body, mind and soul.

Refined consciousness reveals the meaning of existence,
as on the lighted pathway of the devout life I take
the inward journey to the sacred sanctum of spiritualism
to reach the ultimate destination of nirvana.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINTER, IS A SIGN,
OF WHAT OLD MAN WINTER, HAS IN MIND.
OLD MAN WINTER IS UNBELIEVABLY KEEN,
CHECK OUT HIS HISTORY TO SEE WHAT I MEAN.
HE SETS US UP TO THINK ALL IS WELL.
THEN UNLEASHES A BLIZZARD FROM HELL.
WE SHOVEL THE SNOW AND CLEAR THE STREETS.
AFTER A DAY HE DUMPS THREE MORE FEET.
HE WILL MAKE IT SNOW FOR A VERY WHITE CHRISTMAS.
IN HIS OWN WORDS "YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS"
HE DELIVERS JOY FOR THE SNOWBOARDER TYPE,
BUT AT 12,000 FEET IT'S A FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE.
BACK IN THE CITY IT'S FREEZING COLD,
QUITE THE HAZARD, FOR THE WEAK AND THE OLD.
JUST OFF THE LAKE , IT WAS FORTY BELOW.
EFFECTS OF THE WINDCHILL OR SO WE ARE TOLD.
DOWN FROM THE NORTH AND ACROSS THE PLAINS,
WHITEOUT CONDITIONS ARE PURELY INSANE.
OLD MAN WINTER LOVES FREEZING RAIN.
IT'S HIS WAY OF INFLICTING PAIN.
FROM TIME TO TIME WE JUST DON'T KNOW,
WHAT IS MEANT BY COLD WET SNOW.
JUST FOR KICKS HE LIKES TO TAKE DOWN TREES,
BY FREEZING RAIN AND ASSERTING A BREEZE.
NEVER, NEVER, CALL OLD MAN WINTER A *****.
YOU'LL FIND YOURSELF, OFF THE ROAD IN A DITCH.

Man S Most Feared Foes

Natural calamities have been
With man since time immemorial;
Frequenting the earth's face,
Standing as one tall trial.

They ravage places at random,
So unpredictable;
Like invincible enemies,
Wreaking havoc so powerful.

Nature unleashes its wrath
In many forms;
Volcanic eruptions, wildfires,
Extreme heat and winter storms.

Other types are quakes, tsunamis, tornadoes,
Hurricanes, mudflows, flashfloods and landslides;
Claiming not only properties,
But even human lives.

All these among others
Are nature's way to remind;
Man's frailty and helplessness
Make his life lay on the line.

El Niño weather phenomenon
Is another grim warning;
It brings extreme drought
As well as torrential raining.

Nations make information campaigns
And disaster preparedness programs;
Anticipating possible effects
Attributed to nature's harms.

Following the experts' advice
Is a good way of coping;
Take contingent measures,
Brace ourselves for what it might bring.

Yet above all these,
Trust in God Almighty;
Whose hand designed the universe,
His power is great inexorably.

He gives rain on the earth,
Countless are the things marvelous;
He turns into blessings
Man's most feared foes.

Premium Member Fate's Fickle Nature

Her words resonate deep within his heart,
like the crying strings of a sad violin.
Painful revelations accompany her sobs,
as hurt feelings supply the catalyst to speak further.
Like a lissome snow leopard, wild and beautiful,
she unleashes the pain of a broken heart.
But she can't spin disappointment into a smile,
no matter how hard she tries.

As her tears threaten to overwhelm him,
he struggles to find the right words to say.
His words sound surreal, for her hurt is real,
and she feels pain where she once felt joy.
But she senses the truth behind his words,
compelling her to listen.
And she peers deep into his eyes;
offering him a glimpse of her soul.

He tries not to crush her dreams with blunt force
while rejecting the romantic notions of a naïve youth.
But her words break his heart with their impact,
as a flood of tears pools behind each one.
Under the shadow of self-blame and regret,
her unrequited feelings are explored and exposed.
He is the reluctant bearer of fate's fickle nature,
and yet, she finds no solace in his words, only rejection.

Premium Member Tempestuous

Nature’s most fearsome orchestration
of sights, sounds and terrific movements
can feel like the very air we breathe
is being turned against us
as it manifests itself
in many forms of storms.

When earth becomes ungrounded,
it quakes inside its ancient bones,
filling souls with dread
as Mother Nature joins in,
birthing storm quakes
in large bodies of water.

As water fills earth’s veins,
it’s as if the planet bleeds from oceanic wounds,
which tumble over anything and anyone
standing in Mother Nature’s path,
showing those wounds as tsunamis.

Under certain conditions,
Mother Nature unleashes her fickle fury
as hurricanes that sweep over
coastal areas,
and in many other parts of the world,
tornadoes touch down just as unpredictably,
ravaging homes and entire cities,
whirling violently over the land -
claiming innocent lives in the wake
of great devastation.

Throughout all history,
Mother Nature, along with earth,
has exhibited her capricious disposition,
often at the most random of places and times.
Recently, however, humans have contributed
more and more to their own demise
as Mother Nature takes a deep breath
and then vehemently
exhales.

Premium Member Self-determination

Call it karma, call it fate, call it destiny
There is a force unseen that blows our course.
And yet as we roll and tumble
We wish to be free
And so resist
Shake our fists in defiance of the gods
And innovate, invent and imagine our way
Into a better life.
But still we suffer pains and dissatisfactions
With every up and down,
Still we roll and tumble
Along the path of our destiny.

But the spark of freedom catches and glows
As we feel it is our right to be “Me!”
My body my choice, my mind my choice
My life to be self-determined…
As the path divides and turns
Into a broad tangled delta
Before the sea.
Where does it all end? We don’t know
But we can see
The desire to be our own gods of destiny
Unleashes every possibility
From Pandora’s transhuman box of demons
In our lust to just be me.

It cowers in the corner,
newly born.
I turn my spite-soaked back,
riddled with resentment
and pull the thin veil
to sink beneath its cover.
I will not watch it crawl,
but it breathes,
a shadow
at the edge of my own
threatening to merge.
It waits, as I do
for nothing
while I ignore its cries
and mine.
And I turn to stone
silently refusing
the darkness at my feet.

~

It screams
a piercing shrill
that grips my core.
It pokes and presses
every bruise,
clawing at my skin
with high-pitched scratches.
Enraged, I seize it.
A thunderous wrath
echoes within,
bubbling from the chambers
of my worn-out heart.
Relentless waves
crash with intent
to swallow
as a storm
unleashes its fury.

~

Fear consumes,
as the burning truth
nears the brink.
Boiling rage simmers
to a helpless desperation.
I plead for a reprieve,
a momentary pause
in overwhelming anguish.
My offers fly free;
promises,
compromises…
myself.
Left waiting,
tossing pennies
into an overflowing well,
only to watch
my wishes spill.

~

Rain cascades
from hollow black eyes,
as its touch
pierces my chest.
And,
  the dam
     breaks…
flooding the space
with the pent-up poison
that's been swelling within.
I swap my veil
for a heavy blanket
of fog
as hope is smothered.
Color dulls to gray,
and I surrender
to the haze.

~

It holds me
in its growing arms,
and strokes my dampened hair,
whispering comfort
as if to apologize
for its very existence.
It is mine,
born of a final breath
to dwell in my shadow,
and thrive inside a void.
I tend to it
as it tends to me,
embracing what remains,
just a fragment
of that final breath
to hold inside my lungs.
And I succumb
to its rise
from the isolated corner
as it walks beside me,
fully grown.
