What's with this nudging-
this perpetual nudging
from deep within,
urging me to write a poem?

A poem of feelings,
of rhythm and imagery.
And I am willing-
Grasping for words,
phrases, perhaps
something in iambic pentameter.

But I am so spaced out.

I swivel my eyes-
back to front,
peering into the folds of my
spaced-out mind.

My impenetrable gaze
sifts through gray matter,
where arteries pulse
with bright scarlet oxygenated blood,
where veins run deep purple,
flushed, delicate pink.

It is quite extraordinary.

I could write of colors,
I could paint with words-
but there is nothing there.

No angst in me,
nothing provoking,
nothing bothersome,
boiling, nor bubbling.

Just the nudging,
this perpetual nudging.

Premium Member A Ray of Light

A frightened boy struggles to cope,
filtering tears real life contains.
And scavenging for scraps of hope,
he slowly sifts through love's remains.

Fetal alcohol syndrome
warped the mind of this loving soul.
And placed within a foster home,
he paid an exorbitant toll.

He sorts lies from half-truths each day,
but he still manages to have fun.
For scary thoughts are wished away,
moving past what can't be undone.

Because his darting eyes offend,
he tries to avoid anger's gaze.
And reaffirming, you're his friend,
tests his welcome, a thousand ways.

The mind of a child guides this man,
and emotional pains stay fresh.
But, striving to be all he can,
scars of yesterday fade on flesh.

Often abused for fun and gain,
facing fears, he rises above.
And despite his anger and pain,
his lonely soul searches for love.

He's a ray of light in my heart,
he only wants to be my friend.
And close to me, yet worlds apart,
asks "How you doing?" without end.

Blessings bring boom
Ripe rewards room
Bright blossoms bloom

Grace grants grand gifts
Lively love lifts
Sacred sense sifts

Seek sound shelter
Mind moves matter
Gifts grace gathers

Wise words write will
Fortune finds fill
Signs signal still

Think thoughts touching
Fund fine feelings
Love leaps looking

Bold blessing be
Sense succinct see
Finesse feels free

Reap reason's rhyme
Touch treasures time
Charm casts clear chimes

Peace parcels poise
Nurture not noise
Choose clever choice

Bestow bright book
Leave lovely looks
Nice nature nooks

Be best believe
All aims achieve
Clear cheer conceives

Dare dazzle dream
Touch trades true theme
Sell sensuous scheme

The Hunters Guide

Radiance sifts through the crinkled foliage,
as the shadows mimic the gently oscillating

leaves. For the full yellow-white moon has risen. A brook cascading over stones

is embraced by grassy banks,
as it flows through an Early Autumn.

The runnel captures the shimmering gleam;
it is a glittering diamond bracelet

wrapped around a woman’s wrist;
she may pleasurably touch,

twist the glass-like gems-

like the falling leaf that flutters,
twirls in the breeze,

lightly grazes the surface-
'til it is lifted again by a gust in the night.

A bird nesting over the moonlit rill
wears its luster

on its grey- green speckled wings.
They are tucked to sleep.

The coloring leaves rustle,
continue to sway...

the languid petals of addiction fall in a silent way

drugs to wipe clean the scribbled slate of the mind

adrift and alone on the ocean of the bathroom floor

down on my luck down on my knees

scissored by shadow and scythed by sorrow

ice-knives stab my stinging skin

the stark-sudden cold relief of white

as snow sugar-sifts the street

the outer world recedes pain splinters lodge deep

I know the scream of silent weeks

Watching Over Me At Christmas

It’s snowing beautifully outside
crystals are flying everywhere,
The streets are covered in bright white,
and love is in the air,

Frozen windows tremble
when happy carolers are passing by,
White angels, disguised in snowflakes
are dancing in the sky.

I’m snuggled up, all warm and cozy
by my fireplace, inside,
The sound of burning wood,
a melody so peacefully, so sublime,

I’m reading The Christmas Story,
by the candlelight,
A smiling star waving at me,
whispers good night, good night...

Crumbs of stars from above
sifts blessings over my house and my dreams,
Watching over me at Christmas, The Love
in heavenly splendor gleams.

Intelligencia

Everyone is intelligent
Of this, histories are reminiscent
You know something I don't
And I too have something to front
Then comes the flowery ideal of the idealist
To be straight-faced by the reality of the realist
And you wonder as you watch in mime
Whether you were born before or after your time

Some assert their point across
And soft spoken reason suffers loss
Some claim to be a voice for the voiceless
Claiming to air the point of the pointless
Some know how, others know what
Some have the world round and others flat
Some reside in the serenity of thought and deed
Others on the podiums of herald and creed

All these are the plenitude of God's Grace
Our striving comprehension is His Master ace
As we behold Him doing a new thing
One time a lifting shout, another a jingling ring
The greatest of a time may become a hazy memory
Or a legend commanding some unfaded glory
But all in all be not he that the enemy mildly sifts
When you hold back your ministration by your gifts.

Measured By Emptiness

Bereft and alone
since love was lost,
she sits in shadows,
sipping claret
from crystal.
Day from night
cannot be told.
Time no longer sifts
through the glass.
Every hour
is measured
by emptiness.
She's drawn the drapes,
praying an eclipse
will fill an abyss
by swallowing
the glowing moon.
Entombed as though
in a sepulcher,
her insipid soul
sits spiritless.
No spark of life
can be roused
in vacant eyes
or hollow heart.
Naught but the dark
does she seek;
only that and
sipping claret
from crystal.

Often I Wonder, Is It Worth It

Often I wonder, is it worth it

Opening my eyes to blurred red numbers each morning,
broken lines of early hour countings,
as gloomed darkness peers through streaked windows
and dusty mini blinds create silent wooden horizons

Groaning, upright now on the edge of the mattress…stretching,
rubbing my face to remove the remnants of last night,
shoving aside the warmth of my faded flannel blanket,
then finding a cold floor giggling at the touch of my naked feet

I recall the dream, my last moments of sleep…weird…real feeling
Aerosmith, a souvenir stand in Wildwood and an iPad
Sketchy but still there (and I wish I were too)
Don’t ask….

I can hear my dogs grunting at the foot of bed
(Probably chasing raccoons in their heads)
What a life, eating, sleeping, no need for love (in that sense),
just a nice pat on the head every once in a while satisfies

Sometimes I guess that is all it takes, all we can hope for…
Still sitting here, yawning…thinking…
Why do I do this each day, every day, the same routine,
the deepest rut, like tire tracks in fresh mud, straight, never ending…

Then, as the tiniest glint of sunlight sifts the tenebrous room
I think of you…my happiness, my everyday purpose and it all becomes clear
Smiling now, I stand and greet this brand new beautiful day…wide awake
Often I wonder, is it worth it...and then I wonder why I wonder

Premium Member Xmas- the Baby In the Manger

"Though passing through sad and sombre times, let us be gladdened by the joy and peace Xmas brings"- by Poet

She felt the kicks, this time more intense
A mother’s primal instinct told her thus;
‘Can travel no further, need a place
To rest and ease your birth throes’

Mary and Joseph at last spotted a manger.
Temporarily secured from imminent danger
Sheltered from the gaze of the ruminating herd,
She delivered the babe when darkness still hovered

There lay on the hay, baby Jesus haloed in glory
The one who came to script a new story

Singing with cymbals on that wintry night
His birth was announced by angels bright
“Glory to God on high and peace on earth”
Its intonations creating rising waves of mirth

The shepherds, getting that message divine,
Came in hordes to behold the face benign
They knelt down and worshipped the King of kings
While seraphs hovered around on petite angel wings

On every Xmas, His nativity is duly remembered
And in all corners of the world it is joyously celebrated

On that night the star spangled sky glowed radiant
Sending out a light- luminous and lambent
All was bright and calm that serene night
A rare tranquillity drowning every nook in delight

Waving a magic wand, he has come to reign
To liberate mankind from the bondage of sin
Across the noise and strife of today’s weary world
A festive scene of celestial joy is unfurled

The peace of Xmas, as it sifts through the air
Fills each and every heart with overwhelming cheer
