Bumped into a friend
just yesterday
I was driving my car
and she got in the way
She said nothing was broken
the impact was minor
Mostly bruises and cuts
and a pretty good shiner
I took her to breakfast
and told her a joke
She was laughing so hard
she started to choke
I gave her the Heimlich
and then she was fine
While everyone cheered
we continued to dine
I finished my eggs
plus her corned beef hash
She picked up the check
since I don't carry cash
Then we took a ride
when I got a flat
She changed the tire
while watching, I sat
We went to the park
to her favorite thing
where she asked me to push
while she rode on the swing
But careless was she
as she went too high
and flew off the seat
up into the sky
And then she came down
right onto a bush
full of prickly thorns
straight into her tush
To the hospital entrance
I gave her a lift
and away from my car
she limped fairly swift
But before that she said
(if you'll pardon these rhymes)
"Whenever we meet
it's just like old times"

Born poor in a working class family,
Lula da Silva moved to Sao Paula
in search of better life and his father.
Challenged by life, he was supported by his mother.
He had little or no formal education,
started working at age 8 as a street vendor,
and then as a shoe shiner until
finally he made his career as a metal worker.
While working in a factory as a press operator,
in an accident he lost his little pinkie finger.
So his detractors called him nine-finger Lula,
said he cut it off to get the state benefits.
Inspired by his brother he became a trade unionist,
started the left-leaning Workers’ Party.
Led major strike during the dictatorship in Brazil,
emerged as a lion politician of the Latin American left.
After initial failures in 2002 he became the President.
Amidst charges of corruption and a brief stay in jail,
he got re-elected in 2006, and also in 2023
as the first Brazilian President for the third term.
Brazil’s deep polarization came to an apex
after his win in the last presidential election.
The opposition supporters claimed it was rigged,
stormed President’s house, demanding he be deposed.
Despite his efforts to undertake radical reforms
for poverty alleviation and social welfare measures,
his popularity seems to dip, some call him loser Lula,
but he still remains a “sertanejo”- a man of the land.

Conquering Pain
(Through Mental Toughness)
Written: by Miracle Man
10-9-2019
I try not acknowledging that nemesis pain,
I view pain as a temporary irritation.
I won’t surrender, letting it become my bane,
Unless brought on by some ablation.
Any lacerations, I’ve always viewed as minor,
Whether stapled, sutured, glued or such.
Though some have produced a dandy shiner,
I’m not accident prone nor am I a soft touch.
From a seven hour stay in the ER I Just came,
For my eleventh sew, staple job on my head alone.
Each scar tells a story that’s never the same,
My twenty six scars began long before grown.
If hospital administered on an irregular basis,
Pills become my crutch for temporary relief.
I find pain a frame of mind in most cases,
And I avoid the road that might lead to grief.
I’ve seen a lot of days and some have been rough,
And a few of them has brought some scorch.
But if your like a Pit Bull who thinks he’s tough,
You won’t let fear keep you tied to the porch.
Breath and walk easily in a night so blue...
under the green branches of the pines;
and see the brisk breeze that lull the daises,
on the trimmed lawns, sparkling with dew!
On this side of town, rain comes frequently,
to make all things grow, and the courteous robins
live peacefully with the jaunty blue-jays ;
what if people who live here acted similarly,
wouldn't love suddenly overflow and immensely gleam...
like an unexpected snow-fall and make everyone dream?
There are no big crowds where one has to jostle,
no sky-scrapers inviting those shadows so thick and frightful;
nobody leaves the lights on and jitters at night...
couples happily stroll down the lit streets and confidently smile!
On this side of town, all stars seem closer and look shiner,
and folks stop and observe their astonishing beauty:
to requite their love, regarding them as friends...
that always listen to their secrets without apathy;
and they see a magnificent creation without error!
In simpler times, life was modest and slow,
kids rode their bikes down a few blocks,
now they play video games and set up awful plots;
they use foul language and slam the door!
On this side of town, poverty is not known as cursed death,
and the beggars don't have to ask for money;
they are fed with the bread of sweet life...
here they find everything: love, joy, comfort and serenity!

my voice may not be loud
I may not stand out in the crowd
not game changer
but a strange stranger
that's me
others have a louder roar
other wings, a higher soar
but, listen...there's more
epic doesn't negate my tale
Nor does fame make it pale
watch out for me
I date destiny
in my little sphere
I oscillate
making waves that vindicate
purposefully planted
I speak the
unique
a different take
a different shake
awake
faking fake
I'm real
sometimes a whisper
sometimes a shout
or in monotone metronome meter
I...get...the...truth...out
influence is what I'm about
silence is not golden
when happiness is stolen
catalyst reviver
destitute dream finder
prejudice grinder
a healer, binder
I am reality
existentialist examiner
look at me
I'm here to leave a mark
I'll not stay in the dark
Little light shiner
I may not be the blaze
but i'm steady,
it only takes a little light
to ignite
the world
I am me
not a Shakespeare or a Donne
no, neither one
but my place I have won
with a party of one
that's still influence
that's still power
in this time and hour
that's all we need
one person
to change...
one world
with one word
it can be done
I'm here
I'm your party...
your party
of
ONE

1:50 am
The crowd thins, last call is shouted,
the gear is stored as the last patron leaves
Glasses washed and bottles tossed,
I hop down off of the stage watching her
The Shiner clock now reads 2:15 am,
sidewalks are quiet except for the lost ones,
can't find their cars or their heads for that matter
Good thing, they shouldn't be driving anyway
Tight jeans, that black T, hair pulled back,
she says good night to her employees, turns the key in the lock,
then leans against the bar, another long night
Neon lights illuminate her face and I smile
"You up for some breakfast babe, or something else?"
She wraps her arms around my neck
and in a playful voice says, "something else"
Then she kisses me and I fall in love all over again
"You were great tonight," she says with a sincere grin
"You were better," I answer kissing her again
"So what did you have in mind boss?" I tease
"You're the rock star...rock me," she teases back
Another Friday night on 6th Street
The club, the crowds, the music, the feeling
There's something very special about this place
as I take her hand...the night is young
Please check out parts 1 and 2 if you get a chance
The 6th Street I am talking about is in Austin Texas. It is the center of the musical world in that city. You can find any kind of music you like being played live in any of a number of different clubs on this street
There are 4 parts to this series if you care to see them. Actually there are 5, but # 5 would probably be a bit much for this site.
Learning from various nefarious vermin Hermanns
Discerning the trigger bigger the lies fascism will rise
Spoof uncouth aloof truths won’t even try & disguise
Shermans embers burning remember the Germans
Trump encore will ensure war waged at every door
Implore more what ifs will only see the tariffs soar
Saluting Tangerine and Putin settling their score
Polluting & looting the pure Greenland foreshore
Highfalutin thugs shrugs who deplore rule of law
Russians again crushing Prussians not like before
Developing countries know it will kill the poor
Should we still call this the “Third World” War
Everything tanks in the Yanks new Wild West
China gives EU a shiner from their US diner
Deranged climate change zest was the true test
Damn it the planet we knew’s over & laid to rest
Reminiscing
Sitting here the sky is grey
Contemplating what to do today
I’ve read some poems this morning anew
They made me think of when I was with you
The love we shared on a grey morn like this
My heart I gave, you gave me a kiss
I spoke those words so hard to get out
I love you dearest, I wanted to shout
You took my words I had given to you
But you buried them away and I knew we were through
The tears slide down my cheeks now anew
I wish I could see you to say thank you
My heart I gave you when I was six
I didn’t know life played awful tricks
I never loved you I know that’s true now
You just had a bigger conker than me it was WOW!
I had a sixer you had a niner
You bragged about it even when it gave you a shiner
It flew off your string and hit you in the eye
I laughed till I wet myself, I don’t know why
Just sitting reminiscing on this cold grey day
Has made me smile with the memories, now so far away.
