Premium Member Dragon and Santa

Christmas roses are red, and violets are so very blue…
Dear Santa. We love our dear Dragon and hope you do, too.
Nightly, visions of colors dance round and round his big bed.
As delusions of grandeur… continuously dance in his head.

For him sugar plums dance swirling, in dreams oh… so… sweet.
As you know… that tomorrow will bring a new, disastrous treat.
But this is the nighttime, as he lays snuggly, sleeping in his bed.
Honestly don’t worry! For the moment, there’s nothing to dread.

See how he looks, like a sweet heart, innocent, while cozy in bed.
But to be truthful, to help Santa, This year like promised and said…
We gave Dragon… Just a few of those wee, little knockout drops.
Now Santa‘s coming, lickety split! We’re ready, here, like on a military op.

No fricasseed Santa, will happen this night, during Santa’s great yearly flight.
Last year was an accident, we swear! It was little Dragons 1st Christmas night.
When he's excited, he tends to throw fire, through the air, like a son of a gun!
We told you to run, not goo and make cutesy faces, after all he was only one!

And truth to be told, those strange faces on anyone would scare him, we fear!
To make matters more clear, we copied our book, on Dragon etiquette, Dear!
We sent it to the North Pole, and a fire retardant suit, in red, made just, for you.
Don’t lift the face plate, on top of the suit, hair singes fast, to blackened soot!

Suddenly, Santa’s sleigh on the rooftop did land, and he was there within a blink.
Last on his list, it was close to the morn, he wanted to meet Dragon, he thinks.
Entering the room, over a penguin he fell, and landed face down on Dragon.
Dragon woke up and gave Santa a hug, as a new story for Christmas was born.

Now all is well, after Santa was gone. For he got to meet the first Dragon child…
In a thousand years or more, and thankfully Dragon behaved as he smiled…
Two icons in life finally did meet, then they went off to Church and back again.
Now, don’t be surprised, such things can happen, on a day where miracles reign.

All had a great Christmas with reindeer, Santa, Trolls, penguins and Dragon.
Can’t ask for more, at Christmas time, where Jesus in our minds, shines on
So have some good cheer and like Dragon and Santa, together, lets celebrate…
You should know, by now, it’s never too late to participate…The End!

EARLY POEMS XIX

Bound
by Michael R. Burch

Now it is winter—the coldest night.
And as the light of the streetlamp casts strange shadows to the ground,
I have lost what I once found
in your arms.

Now it is winter—the coldest night.
And as the light of distant Venus fails to penetrate dark panes,
I have remade all my chains
and am bound.

Published as “Why Did I Go?” in my high school journal, The Lantern

130 Refuted
by Michael R. Burch

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red ...
— Shakespeare, Sonnet 130

Seas that sparkle in the sun
without its light would have no beauty;
but the light within your eyes
is theirs alone; it owes no duty.
And that flame, not half as bright,
is meant for me, and brings delight.

Coral formed beneath the sea,
though scarlet-tendriled, cannot warm me;
while your lips, not half so red,
just touching mine, at once inflame me.
And the searing flames your lips arouse
fathomless oceans fail to douse.

Bright roses’ brief affairs, declared
when winter comes, will wither quickly.
Your cheeks, though paler when compared
with them?—more lasting, never prickly.
And your cheeks, so dear and warm,
far vaster treasures, need no thorns.

I believe I wrote this poem as a college freshman, age 18.

With my daughter, by a waterfall
by Michael R. Burch

By a fountain that slowly shed
its rainbows of water, I led
my youngest daughter.

And the rhythm of the waves
that casually lazed
made her sleepy as I rocked her.

By that fountain I finally felt
fulfillment of which I had dreamt
feeling May’s warm breezes pelt

petals upon me.
And I held her close in the crook of my arm
as she slept, breathing harmony.

By a river that brazenly rolled,
my daughter and I strolled
toward the setting sun,

and the cadence of the cold,
chattering waters that flowed
reminded us both of an ancient song,

so we sang it together as we walked along
?unsure of the words, but sure of our love?
as a waterfall sighed and the sun died above.

This poem was published by my college literary journal, Homespun, in 1977. I believe I wrote around age 18.

Live Love Life

“True love stories never have endings.” –
True happiness is a feeling. It is an immersive feeling that everything is good inside. It is not just about riches or wealth; it is a state of mind in which one has a fulfilling and satisfying feeling that his heart is truly at rest.
Is kadar pyar hai tumse ae humsafar	O my better half, I'm in love with you in such a manner that
Is kadar pyar hai tumse ae humsafar	O my better half,I'm in love with you in such a manner that
Ab toh jeete hai hum bas tumhe dekhkar	Now I live only by looking at you
Tumhari har ada, tumhari har nazar	Every style of yours and every look of yours
Yeh kya kehne lagi tumhe hai kya khabar	You don't know what they're saying
Is kadar pyar hai tumse ae humsafar	O my better half, I'm in love with you in such a manner that
Ab toh jeete hai hum bas tumhe dekhkar	Now I live only by looking at you
Dil mein hai betaabiyan, neend udne lagi	My heart is restless and I've lost my sleep
Tere khayalon se hi aankh judne lagi	My eyes have started to connect with your thoughts
Har pal tumko dekha maine kehti hai meri nazar	My eyes say that I've been staring at you all the time
Tumhari har ada, tumhari har nazar	Every style of yours and every look of yours
Yeh kya kehne lagi tumhe hai kya khabar	You don't know what they're saying
Is kadar pyar hai tumse ae humsafar	O my better half, I'm in love with you in such a manner that
Ab toh jeete hai hum bas tumhe dekhkar	Now I live only by looking at you
Saanson mein basne lagi jabse tu o jaaneja	Since the time you've settled in my breaths o beloved
Apna sa lagne laga mujhko sara jahaan	The entire world seems to be mine
Mehka mehka lagta mujhko khushiyon se dil ka nagar	And the colony of my heart seems to be full of joy
Tumhari har ada, tumhari har nazar	Every style of yours and every look of yours
Yeh kya kehne lagi tumhe hai kya khabar	You don't know what they're saying

Premium Member Fixated By a Rose

Sometimes our attention will turn toward some of God's special creations that may cause our hearts to skip a beat or take one's breath away. Such was the case with me when one of God's choicest roses left me speechless and staring.

While chatting with a friend, I looked to our right and saw a mobilized rose bush* moving in our direction. It appears that I was more startled and enchanted by the beauty of the roses than by the animated movement. The roses were much lovelier than any that I had ever seen and were most beautiful, full of color, and downright stunning.

I did not speak to the rose but wanted to, nor it to me, but I heard it well in unutterable tones, and as I stared at it with wonderment, it watched me sheepishly. I was to some extent spellbound and for a while, I could not look away. There were also other flowers standing and some coming and going in a most orderly fashion, but none was as noticeable as the roses that came in our direction.

Indeed, for a few seconds, I forgot that my friend was standing there, and lest I be embarrassed, I discontinued staring at the one particular rose that had spell bounded me. I then turned toward the less eye-catching flowers, but that special rose continued moving toward my friend and stood next to him as I walked away. By then it was clear to me that they knew each other, but it was also clear to me that the rose was not available to me for acquisition, nor was I in a position to acquire that priceless rose.

It's been many a year since first seeing that mesmerizing rose of impeccable purity and refinement, so arresting and captivating of me as no rose, violet, lily, or lilac ever had before. Never had I encountered a flower so adorable and embracing.

I tell you, roses are my favorite flower, and many of them have graced my home for more than 22 years. I must confess that there have been times I have denied them proper care and adequate water supply due to drought conditions, but I love my long-standing roses dearly. Moreover, for a long season and more, I cannot forget that overwhelming rose that fixated and left me speechless more than 10 years ago.

From Dawn's Spirited Breath, See Red, Red Rose

When Summer rose meets dawning's sweetest hush
Sun comes to bequeath its dawn bathing rays
Red beauty gleaming, rose stills early rush
Into man's world shines, another bright day.

With red rose petals spreading ever wide
Calming thoughts, heavenly blue ocean waves
One may from duty or play thus decide
No plucking, to rose's truest of beauty save.

Within Nature's truth, rests a native song
Of wanderings some lost souls have traveled
In desperate search for truth to belong
Hope, such tapestry, can be unraveled.

From Dawn's spirited breath, they see red rose.
And wonder why its color, Nature chose.

Sonnet, Rhyme, ( To Gaze In Awe At Red Rose Radiant Colors )

(2.)
Red Rose, Sing Me A Sweeter Melody

Alas! Flowers winter breath soon must feel
Frigid wind, that fierce and dastardly blows
Pray I, mildest winter, on knees I kneel
Begging for Spring, when fantastic green shows.

Red rose, sing me a sweeter melody
Of paradise that hold Spring all the year
Casting winter's fangs into darkest sea
Allaying this man's dreaded icy fears.

Shall I, for deepest beauty thus reward
A plastic cover to thy life extend
For here blasting winter chill 'tis so hard
Harsh reality, let us not pretend!

Red rose, thy bright song must for a time end.
Solemn vow held as, magnificent friend!

Robert J. Lindley,
Sonnet, Rhyme, ( Red Rose, To Admiring Heart, Thy Truest Song Sing )

(3.)
Then Red Rose Blushed Its Petals Brightest Red

Songbirds to red rose, thy colors cry out
Bestow thy harmonious songs as gifts
We sing melodies while flying about
Hoping thy red souls it truly uplifts.

Red rose, songbirds assuredly you know
In my soft flowerbeds I welcome thee
In Mother earth's soil I happily grow
With pleasure serve her busy honey-bee.

Listen Mother Nature so softly said
Birds to you, I giveth earth and blue sky
To red rose I gift my fine virgin beds
None but blinded man would be asking why!

Then red rose blushed its petals brightest red
Proving to all, truth Mother Nature said!

Say Sorry

Don’t be afraid to say sorry
Don’t be scared to cry loud the tears of apology
No boat can sail the ocean of offence except sorry
No ticket is valid to access the broken heart either
Sorry is the master key to open all the doors
Even the pillar of love has no strength without sorry
Sorry is the song of conciliation to unite again
Happiness is just an illusion without sorry
No tears worth to be shed if meant no sorry
Even sad face means nothing, if sorry isn’t written on it
Say sorry to calm down the weeping soul

I love you is incomplete to win back the lost trust
And kiss is not sweet enough without sorry
Sweethearts and honey are useless names
Promises are so empty if not feeling sorry
No matter how red the roses are
Violets can be perfectly blue to make a healthy flower
Taking her out is also a complete waste of time
No matter how expensive the gifts can cost
All are just fakes without sorry
A thousand times you can say it
A million times you can name it
But that is no higher than meaning it just once
Sorry brings back hopes that were fallen apart
No house is entitled to stand without sorry
The wind blows away the helmets of those who shows no remorse
Those who go ignorant and ashamed to let sorry plays with their tongues
Quarrels and arguments take their turn to pride themselves
But sorry define all their weaknesses and expose their shamelessness
Sorry doesn’t mean that you are guilty thus it shows the bolder you
However it have the tendency to impose how foolish you are
Arrogant think that sorry is the song to sing by fools
But foolish are those who deny pronouncing the meaning of it
It takes sorry to settle with the scores that seems too difficult to achieve
Great Lions of the jungle can roar and dangerous snakes can lift their heads high
But it is consistently takes a wise word to calm them down no matter how dangerous it might
The power of love is intimacy
The feeling of sympathy is humility
The sign of achievement is victory
But the highest of them all is sorry
It conquers amongst the rest and turn the worst to be the best
Live the life humble and never be ashamed to be sorry

"His style has the desperate jauntiness of an orchestra fiddling away for dear life on a sinking ship. Edmund Wilson"

            ____________________________________________

With each fresh day, leaves on trees grew dry.
Stream flow had ceased in the vast waterway.
Enormous boulders collapsed to dust!
Perched on lonesome island of my life fust

I tasted the bitterness of shattered dreams.
Walls stood in my path, hindering laud gleams.
Depart from my delicate and feeble universe!
My nightmares shattered all hope, into a curse.

Departing with daunting sadness and failure.
Wallowing in self-pity, longing for a torn sailor.
I am seriously suffering through my fate!
I was startled when I heard a faint whisper sate.

Optimism is a belief that can lead to success.
Even if roses are cut, spring will still progress.
Shift focus toward kindness, not dwell on pain.
Twiddle to the glorious sky to rise once again.

There are no desperate situations, they say.
Only desperate people endure; they convey.
In the pits of anguish, hope might dwindle.
We mimic inner force to rise without a swindle.

There, within the deepest recesses of our minds.
In a land where shadows hover and dismay binds.
A faint glimmer of light starts to flicker.
We will strive for perseverance and vigor.

Who are these people, you might ask?
Ones who will fit any extent for their task.
They are those who are eager for success.
Steadfast in their quest, they never digress.

They are the skeptics, rebels, and bold.
Who is loath to be tethered by societal mold?
They overstep limits and breach walls.
Unabatedly, their tenacity never stalls.

Ready to accomplish a wide range of things.
They have no fear of spreading their wings.
No snag is too vast, or argue that is too tough.
They are keen on any cost, even if it is rough.

Grace flows, twists, turns, renewing spun gold.
Heaven's enduring doors continue to enfold.
Wistful soul is overtaken by delight scope.
Phoenix emerges from the ashes of lost hope.
