A great mind is a curse and a blessing,
It is the engineer of furtherment;
Yet, it is loathed by its inheritor.
It begets its host a wealth of stardom,
Though this abundance of fame is detested;
For it reaps far more suffering than joy.
The constant attempt at normalcy,
The ineludible mental anguish;
This is what plagues the life of a genius.
Forever shall the gift of brilliance be condemned,
By beholder and spectator alike;
Because in all of its greatness, envy grows.
An envy so fierce that it forges hate,
And in its wake, not but regret remains;
Thus, a great mind is taken from the world.
Yet in its loss, something emerges. Hope.
Take away lusts dark sleep of shallow dust.
Me, to emerge-crowned, both righteous and just.
Take the poison from my hollow likeness.
Away, this venom that bleeds to mine own.
Lusts serpents have bitten at my carcass.
Dark penetrations wallow in this crown.
Sleep is my only place of cares rally.
Of my excuses and weakness and hordes.
Shallow is my grasp on a better hold.
Dust is now a tool I must take-in-ward.
I am stained of my own accord, Lord.
May you gain me entrance to thy kingdom.
Emerge me from prison to thy splendour come.
Crowned within your divine place of refuge.
Righteous the one whos Fathers will is done.
In thy name you take away pains deluge.
Justice thine favor, your anger made gone.
"Autumn leaves don’t fall; they fly.
They take their time and wander on this
their only chance to soar.”
_by Delia Owens
Like golden leaves, we live our Autumn days-
cling to the limbs and branches of our life.
Enjoying still, the end of Summer's blaze
while living in the bliss of all that's rife.
When comes the time for Autumn's final day;
release, we must- accept next Winter's stage.
Before we fall, we fly and dance away
to frolic in life's air, deterring age.
We fly to places never seen before
and land on surfaces protected well-
then sore again- discover and explore.
As winds uplift- our fears of Winter, quell.
Yet, Winter brings a beauty all its own-
The time to glisten in fresh snow delight.
When we, as leaves, no longer can be blown-
rebirth in Spring will end dark Winter's night.
Infinity is darkness continuous
With no end or hope in sight,
Infinity is timeless, delirious
Passion that burns in flight.
Infinity is expectation
Of exhaltation and fall
Infinity is explanation
Of all the things you cannot recall
Infinity is grass on a meadow
That does not have an end,
Infinity is the shadow
That you try to catch in hand
Infinity is a golden wire
Stretched to completion and in it spent,
Infinity is desire
Reaching out despite your intent,
Infinity is two mirrors
Reflecting each other and through them you,
Infinity is unclear
Infinity is sky blue
To vanish into infinity
Is to become indistinct,
To lose all affinity
For all that you feel and think,
To lose barriers and resolution
And to become not your own,
To welcome destitution
And wealth in one,
To merge with incandescent divinity
And be enough apart
To love it; yes, to achieve continuity
Of mind and heart;
To shine continuously and eternally
And never begin to end
To love intentionally and infernally
To make home of both sea and land
To know infinity is to extinguish
To reduce man to single gasp
To love infinity is to distinguish
True eternity from death's grasp
To live infinity is to know
That there is nothing else true -
Infinity is the flow
Between I and You -
Infinity is not seeing
But being the thing that is will,
Infinity is the streaming
Of time over the hill,
Infinity is truth that is shimmering
Somewhere between night and day;
Infinity is fire that is simmering
Infinity is molding clay
Infinity is intensity
And so, say I,
Infinity is immensity
Within your eye.

It was the last door for me to open.
I didn’t know what lay behind, hidden
Forgotten memories, feelings packed high?
Or if not forgotten, just painful. Lost.
It’s not special, chosen… But it's the last.
And it must open to finish my task
Twelve long months I’ve cleaned, twelve months long I’ve toiled.
Alone I’ve removed the detritus, ash,
Leftovers from a party unwanted.
The furniture was destroyed, bespoiled, torn
Trash and garbage stank, the rooms were quite soiled.
Gagged with what I saw, I retched at the thought
I allowed this to happen, decided
Naught. But now all clean were the rooms, the halls
The funk was removed, the place was renewed
Less this last door in the shadows of thought.
...And then, I opened that door. Hidden. Last.
I used to be naive, I used to trust
but then that trust just crumbled into dust
the world at large is so unkind, it's true
there is the world at large, and then there's you
You are the one on whom I rest my soul
my naked thoughts reveal without control
You are the one to banish every doubt
to make me see what trust is all about
You are the one I tell each secret fear
the one whose fragrant promise lingers near.
You are the one who knows my hidden ways
Who fills with love the moments and the days
You are my fortress sure, my anchored dream
I lie still in your arms in flowing stream
You are the one who loves without degree
the one whose smile erases history
You are the lover's hope avowed in pledge
A sure security when life's on edge
You are my truth, my strength, my everything
Because of you, my heart and soul can sing

A conversation with my Mom-
"Good morning, daughter- came to you today,
to celebrate your birthday and share time.
It's been a while since we have talked this way-
since angels took my soul by God's design."
"I do remember your last hug and kiss,
and though I seemed to be so unaware,
your every word of love I did not miss
as you caressed my hand and stroked my hair."
"Dear Mom, so many years have passed since then-
so much you missed- your family has grown;
grandchildren grew and married, then again
five more, their darling ones, to you unknown."
"I always felt your presence through the years-
and know you saw it all from up above.
You heard my laughter, felt my falling tears,
and I, in turn, perceived your caring love."
"Oh, yes, my dear, our death creates no ends;
in God's sweet heaven life does start anew.
Within my soul, that everywhere extends,
I felt your love- and that of children too."
"Forty and five long years have surely passed,
since that so sorrowful September morn.
And now you're here beside me- joy at last,
on this, my date of birth- I feel reborn."
"Farewell once more in earthly terms my dear-
but in each other's hearts- forever near."
"Yes, Mom, someday we'll meet at heaven's door
to share our time together, evermore."
I saw a beautiful boy today, standing in the crowds.
He stood there like a tower and was gazing at the clouds.
His eyes were a captured sunset, with molasses for his hair.
Determination graced his lips; a world was painted there.
I touched a beautiful boy today as he was walking by.
His steps were light and easy and he held his head so high.
The sunlight played upon his face as he turned to look at me,
Then all at once my skies turned blue, he’d set my sad soul free!
I loved a beautiful boy today as he reached out for my hand.
He said goodbye, he could not stay, but I could understand.
For angels were not meant to stay, forever - for all time;
But come and go and cast their light on lonely hearts like mine.
Into the heart of darkness,
Viciousness and despair -
Into the very Tartarus -
Enters the prince of Air.
Ceiling is bleak and starless.
Nobody knows your name.
Inside the heart of darkness
Flickers an open flame.
Everywhere, creeps and scoundrels
Feeding upon the souls.
Under the heart of darkness,
Broken glass and coals.
Think that I might take flight, less
I also burn to death.
But through the heart of darkness
I must create a path.
Something ignites and startles
Amid the sulfur fumes.
Inside the heart of darkness
Torment of souls resumes.
Demons and fiends and gargoyles
Crowd me on every side
As through the heart of darkness
I take a tourist ride.
Skin catches fire and sparkles
And from it pours hot blood.
Within the heart of darkness,
Boiling and ruddy flood.
"Have you lost all your marbles?"
"If I did, would I care?"
Inside the heart of darkness
I can't tell here from there.
Place is unmapped and chartless.
All roads lead to Rome -
That is, to heart of darkness -
And from it rises foam.
Nothing is seen apart; yes,
Mirrors on every wall
Reflect the heart of darkness
At everyone and all.
Evil has many partners
And many a disguise.
Look in the heart of darkness
And train your ears and eyes.
You cannot tell apart us,
Me and the souls on fire.
It burns, the heart of darkness,
Outside, inside, and higher.
Where do I stand or start? Yes,
Write with a piece of chalk
Map of the heart of darkness
Upon a lotus stalk -
Lotus that, like most marvels,
Grows in the thickest mud
And through the heart of darkness
Reaches to heart of God -
There will be no more markers
Upon my path, as I
Burn through the heart of darkness
Into the open sky.
I think of you being a universe away—
it cuts like broken glass, being apart from you
and all alone and without a bright ray
that's you to keep me from growing so blue.
If I could fly like a bird and appear
at your front door like a long-lost, old letter
I'd move both heaven and Earth to be near
you,—nothing under heaven could be better!
Tho' I am poor my words are filled with riches
and emeralds for a beautiful, high princess
like you—a sweet, highborn girl who bewitches
all with her charming brilliance and great rictus.
To please you I would scale tall mountains
and plumb the depths of under-sea valleys;
and like de León I'd search the lost fountains
of youth for you 'til I grow feeble in both knees.
Together, we are the Shepherd and Lamb;
I'd lead you to graze in the tall, green grasses
where the fields are watered by the brick dam
ahead of the dry and dusty, dirt passes.
I am the river and you are the sea;
my love flows into you like the Ganges;
like seed, I'd flower in your open lea
and sprout in your heart’s crannies.
I am the soil and you are the Rose,
rouge-tinted with life and fertile beauty;
you'd reek of great wisdom to every nose
and be sage beyond the ripe age of ninety.
Like a bottomless sea my love runs deep
for you and will never run dry or run cold:
thus, with these words of mine you can keep
them near you and treasure them like gold.
