Little Ol' Me

I wish I could write
like those others before me,
Byron and Shelley and old Edgar Poe

Flowery phrases
Thy love unforgetting,
chasing a raven as ink tends to flow

Follow a sidewalk
in Silverstein footsteps,
sit neath a tree as the apples appear

Doth O’ my feelings
O’er Midsummer stanzas
Dream thee melodic as words of Shakespeare

Maybe some thoughts
in a past tense creation,
deeper in meaning like Sylvia Plath

Or Robert Frost
and the nature he touches,
meandering off through the trees down a path

Emily Dickinson,
aprons and daisies,
words overflowing the tea kettle rim

And let’s not forget
“The man”, Leonard Cohen,
what I would give if I could write like him

Neruda, Longfellow,
Kipling and cummings
so many thoughts in their own point of view

Taking our minds
to assorted locations
every piece speaks of something quite new

So many poets
who weave inspiration,
any or all I can just hope to be

But here I am
just writing my verses,
I guess I am stuck being little ol’ me

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And here’s a few more,
some you might know
Who inspire all
when their ink it does flow
Charmaine, Paloma,
Heidi and Dee
Victor and Daniel
Catie, Laniey
Holly, Alexis,
Mystic and Rick
Maurice, The Seeker
Eve and Tim Smith
Arthur and Freddie
James, Jo and Jan
Nette, Laura Loo
Broken Wings, San
And so many others
I’ve met on this site
Who each day inspire
this poet to write
If I have forgotten anyone, I apologize. I am still quite new here.
Congratulations on 90th Birthday
2025.2.26
Dear A, today would have been your 90th birthday.
Thank you for being my friend, neighbor, and be your carergiver.
I remember all those songs,
You sang in your language.
You had such strong lungs and soprano voices.
I also remember you said,
"Where have you been all my life?"
You repeated that quite few times.
Each time, I just sang "You needed me" by Anne Murray.
Then one day, from your kitchen's window,
Behind the venetian blind
I clearly heard you sang a beautiful song.
Which I heard on the radio, when I was little.
I rang and asked you for the title.
You said "La Paloma", that was it.
On the very next visit,
I brought along my harmonica.
That day, we had so much fun
With singing and playing music.
Eventually. I played the piano,
You sang your favourite songs along my melodies.
Over the time, I was surprised and revered for
Your abilities to overcome all kind of issues.
When you helped me moving in my unit.
All you wanted was a bottle of whisky.
All my life, I hated surprises.
But you did it very nice,
On my birthday, with two digit candles,
On a small chocolate icing cake.
You surprised me with your singing.
My tears ran down on my cheeks.
I did not like surprise but I was happy.
Never before I was spoiled like what you did.
Since that day, I warned you,
Never surprised me again.
Guessed what, my friend, you never listen.
You bought me present on each special occasions.
From that day, we celebrated our birthdays every year,
In 2019, I celebrated yours in hospital.
Dear A, have I told you,
Through out my adult life,
You were the first and the only one,
Who continued giving me pleasant surprises.
I still kept those burnt digit candles.
I would proudly say to everyone,
Of all the people I know,
Whether related or pretended,
All their loves could not add up to yours.
What more precious was,
You taught me how to,
Love someone truly and unconditionally.
Today, here I knee in front of your grave,
Besides the usual offerings as always
Reading you this poem will be a surprise gift.
Thank you for loving me,
Thank you for being my truest friend.
Thank you my dear,
Thank you and may you rest in peace.
Thinking of you always.
Furthermore Gravity
 ( For two inspirational 'Soup’ Poets ~  Andrea Dietrich and Paloma P  -  / )
______________________________
You didn't humble
                 the moon last night-
                 ( who's reading you anyway ),
                 tricked-up your drivers for bold eloquence but
                 ‘Ye gods of old’ hath crumbled.
                 Shackled to poe's profundity and
                 furthermore: Gravity.
To inspire is
                  'To wear it well'  at the breathless corners.
                  You may sœw a revolution, from wet dryer-lint.
                  The hint is: Gravity.
Then bridle not
                  of where or what but
                  flash your main o're
                  ashen seas, run true
                  beyond your last bright
                  'count, resplendent's right
                  by gravity.
                  Sing lo' and lift us there.
Angels Incorporated: Coming Up Roses
“Angels Incorporated: Coming Up Roses”
Corporeal salutes
the corporal
in you
angels
earn their wings
in the beating
rising in everything
solace is found
in the grounding
we fall
back down to earth
reasoning surfaces
along the scars
that lift the bless'ed be
buffed bluff of us
the silence
becomes us
kissing prayers
all hallelujahs
swallowed
rise eventually
to bring us home
dancing, duly
misunderstood
Angels are us
It's Hard To Pick Just One
`
I have so many friends on soup,
it’s hard to pick just one
To narrow down to just a few,
it just cannot be done
Heidi always brings a smile
Brenda tempts my heart
Sandy posts poetic dreams
Connie’s whispered art
Gershon really makes me laugh
Maureen, she can write
Hello There and Andrea
make my mornings bright
John, who makes the soupers sing
Nina, she’s a hoot
Kim can pen most anything
Pixie’s words so cute
Sunlite you are number one
you’ve always been my friend
I’m sorry I omitted you
it won’t happen again
Anne-lise always makes me think
Ilene sure can rhyme
Brandy’s thoughts are beautiful
Eve makes poems shine
Limericks are Jan’s forte
Affection is Cay Cay
Alexis, Chantelle, Carolyn
take my breath away
A warrior who floats on wings
A very Silent One
Bobby May bring happiness
and Spock, no wait, his son
Disco, Beth and Jeanne are new
at least they are to me
Janice, Tania, Sandra Weiss
much talent in these three
Line and LuLoo and Dear Heart
well, what more can I say
So many poets I call friend
on any given day
There are a few from long ago
when I first found this site
I can’t forget to mention them,
it just would not be right
Charmaine, I miss her the most
Paloma just as much
White Wolf wrote some crazy stuff
Darren had the touch
Agnes, Leanna, Anne-Marie
all were friends of mine
Becca, Dale, Lisa, Sue
Poetry so fine
Christy, Daniel, Freddy, Lin
so many from the past
Forever doesn’t happen now
it seems some things don’t last
But back to what I’m trying to say,
before this poems’ done
So many here that I admire,
it’s hard to pick just one
So, thank you all for all you do,
the kindness that you show
I’m blessed by every one of you
and wanted you to know
Romance In the Reflections of the Steely Green-Eyed
"Romance in the Reflections of the Steely Green-Eyed"
Romance is in the
reflections of the
steely green-eyed
time stolen and framed
bars to freedom
champagne dreams remain
the prisoner’s heart ignominious
kept safely in a treasure box
poetry lies laconic in the lap
kept criminally magnanimous
a hand gently caresses
a missing mind
pulling out unheard
singular words
famished and ravenous wings
flying off the transponding
power lines
black-feather quilled
screaming
a life sentence
singular words
sautéed in three lines
missing in milky moonlight
softly floats spectral
room to room mute
engaging the unaware
passing through
all the eternal years
damned alongside
all the voiceless hosts
tapping fingers like a ghost
S.O.S. morse code
on windows glassed over
lackadaisical and frosted cold
on the outside
we dance Munch mime
trapped in the
History of a Wasted Mind
solitary and confined
'til death do us part
dark and stormy vilified
electric veined
cold silver heart
feigning tame
kept on a dangling chain
a pendant looping
like an aerial display
haunting blue sky’s
moth-life tiger coiled
sabre toothed
calculating and refined
Romance is held hostage
in the reflections of
the steely-green eyed
6th Death Anniversary at the grave
2025.4.16
Today, it is my late friend AP's 6th death anniversary.
This morning, I visited him
And brought with me not only the usual,
But three more new items
A popular book "The Art of Happiness",
A new published "The Holly book of the Foreskin"
And a frame of my embroidery work,
Consisted of a poem of farewell best wishes,
The song "La Paloma". Both in his language,
A butterfly and the emblem of his country.
All was done to commemorate his 6th death Anniversary.
It has been years since his burial day,
But it is still fresh in my mind and memory.
Each year, I promise myself,
It will be the last, but I could not help
Repeatedly breaking my promises.
Which was how to refrain myself from visiting AP.
That was right, I always break promises
Which I made solely for me,
But strictly kept all for others
And suffered big time.
Compare to the first year back in 2019,
When I visited more than 44 times,
Now, I can only do twice.
Will he forgive me, if for any reasons?
I will can not come to pay him respect in person.
Dear AP, thank you for being my friend,
Despite being a womenizer,
And a person who was aggressive
And using abusive language
You respected and treasured our friendship
And especially me.
You never took advantage of me
And used those offensive words
In my present at least from the day,
I requested you not to use them.
To many people, you were a horrible person,
But I knew, deep down inside,
You just pretended to be a tiger,
When you were just a big kitten with a heart of gold.
I witnessed you helped your neighbours and strangers,
Like me at our first meeting.
Ten years of friendship and caring relationship,
Shall last me a life time of some happiness.
What I loved you most, was you being able,
To love me unconditionally,
In your heart and put them in actions.
For the past fifteen months,
I met two extreme individuals,
Who now longer be my friends,
Their first and last meetings,
Were never what and how I planned.
Do I regret loosing them?
Well, shall I say, it is by far,
when comparing to you.
Bye AP.
Pamplona - full fight - 'El Toro Bravo'
Who's got more balls the matador or the bull
Nature or nurture the survival is skewed
The stage is set culture maintained and the
Fiesta bound to unravel in wild screams and suspense
Paloma however sports a pacifist's creed
Prefers a siesta with Paco's gentle sword
Sheathed in passion smooth motions of Peace
Bow to freedom and compassionate love
Pony and stallion dance al fresco in white sheets
When the night settles and they glow in the dusk
The arena nearby is empty bar blood in the sand
But Paloma and Paco rest unblemished after the
wondrous rapture and a clear conscience in kind
At the grave on his 90th BD
2025.2.26
At 07:07:07, I was at the cemetery,
To visit my dear late friend A P.
He would have been 90 years of age today.
There was mixed feelings,
I have not seen and visited him for quite a while.
I was looking forward to greet him with the biggest smile.
Somehow, I was already teary on my way.
There was no issue to find his unnamed grave.
When I arrived, his grave was bare and clean.
All the items I left 10 months ago,
The tiny altar and his photos,
The cards for his birthdays and death anniversaries,
The Johny Walker glass with the Reindeer candle inside,
The names made of marbles stones,
And a plant in a pot.
Everything was gone and out of sight.
Someone has cleaned his resting place.
I was quite shocked, but I had some things to replace
His 90th birthday wishes done by embroidery,
The Jack Daniel Cola and Coke bottles,
Since all the stones were taken away,
I made up his name with fruits, lollies and biscuits.
I kneeled on the lawn and read him my Poem,
Which I posted today to share with all viewers.
I could not have done everythings this morning,
Without his silent support and my clear mind.
And the carer who said goodbye to me on Valentine.
I managed to sing his song La Paloma in his language,
And play it with my harmonica,
Although I missed to play the piano this morning,
But I was happy to see and do somethings,
For him on his special day.
Happy 90th birthday to my truest friend A P.
PS.
The missing items at his grave,
Has been captured in photographs and stored in USB.
And no one could take them away from my memory..
