While racing on the rocking horse of youth
Going nowhere closer to the sun or faster there
When swinging pendulums from Democrat to Republican
Age picks up the pace, in speed it keeps us in our place
Remains the same with nothing more than impressions on a carpet
Really, there's no distance covered on the new republic as no one cares
And when the rocker and pendulum stop in mid air
Dust settles at the bottom as ash on ash to gather us
Into one party to call “all in with my candidate” with all your soul
Dropped with a ballot but will that ever be enough
How far did we expect to go on wooden horses
Saddled up with straw men about to burn in vanity if not in hell
Authors note: This piece was inspired by Brad Minor, a writer in “A Catholic Thing” writing on our modern politics.
Qoheleth, (son of Solomon writes in Ecclesiastes) his perspective on life, which anticipates by half a millennium many of Christ’s words.
In Chapter 3 – the one that begins “For everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven” – he writes, “I saw under the sun in the place of judgment wickedness, and in the place of justice iniquity.” Do we really think anything has changed?
But is Qoheleth’s pessimism a sound guide to politics? Yes. Mine wouldn’t be, but his is. It is because the vanity he laments (and which we see today in abundance) is proof of his theme throughout:
12:6 Before the silver cord is snapped
and the golden bowl is broken,
And the pitcher is shattered at the spring,
and the pulley is broken at the well,
7 And the dust returns to the earth as it once was,
and the life breath returns to God who gave it.
8 Vanity of vanities, says Qoheleth,
all things are vanity!
Amen.
This democratic republic, where most of us
Have toiled through and reside.
Is the most difficult, complex, and lethargic
System, that's ever been contrived.
It requires an educated electorate, with a
Committed participation to be heard.
While their legislative representatives listen,
Then work together towards actual solutions,
And their word.
Often time consuming and compromising,
Due to the inherent numbers involved.
Yet for those who value freedom and choice,
It's still the best for those liberties as they've evolved.
What's intolerable, is the partisan politics, where
Conspiracies and blame, top the agendas at length.
As it rips away at the fabric of justice,
Which is supposedly, our greatest strength.
Yet one man and his fervent followers, seem to
Feel that just one party should surpass the rest.
While doing battle against a weakened judiciary,
Claiming innocence all along their quest.
These are the crossroads we now face, where no
Matter the direction taken, accountability shows a violent side.
Since this man, the former POTUS, has so much
Criminal conduct about, he just can't hide.
Ultimately, this decision to indict, lies with a
Justice department and its conviction.
While any failure to deliver this guilt,
Will show our failure through dereliction.
Polling day
Calmly on trek;
Popular mandate
~~~~~~~~~
Above the noise
People cast votes;
Landslide win
~~~~~~~~~
So many rallies
Mind reading stances;
Noisy opposition
~~~~~~~~~
Incumbent party
Massive support;
New era begins
~~~~~~~~~
The people's choice:
Savvy polling;
Status quo majority
~~~~~~~~~
Helming the day
Familiar comfort;
Watershed moments
~~~~~~~~~
Sweeping away
83 from 89;
Sweet victory won
~~~~~~~~~
Consultative way
Better approach;
Empathy shows
~~~~~~~~~
Big time gains
Resounding mandate;
Business as usual
~~~~~~~~~
So here we go
Undisputed territory;
One-party majority
~~~~~~~~~
Surging ahead
New government term;
Secure city-state posture
~~~~~~~~~
Early morning
Post-election briefing;
Eager media update
~~~~~~~~~
Sense of relief
Same old, same new;
Change of guards
~~~~~~~~~
We can all rest
No strange bedfellows;
Familiar statesmen
With sadness, that never ceased,
I watched your Father shot on live television.
I was living in Chicago and Elena, a baby
in my arms asleep.
Your Father, Robert had just won California
and “on to Chicago” was his mission.
Sirhan-Sirhan., anti-Isreal, pro-Palestinian ,
shot your father in the hotel’s kitchen, near dead.
I sat in Chicago, in tearful disbelief, and all I could
feel was profoundest grief!
Screaming crowds wept as deep crimson-
warm, blood seeped from your father’s head.
And here you are now with your lovely wife and
actress, Cheryl Hines, about to follow in your
Father’s footsteps!
Your voice may sound strange as you are
affected by spasmodic dysphonia.
I am just an ordibary American because I
do not think one party is a religion whose tenets
are absolute truth.
I’ll always feel this way. Love can’t be love
which alters where it alteration finds:
my driver, she – no matter how she grinds
my gears. I’d hardly term it, hand-and-glove:
it’s much more like a scrimmage, push-and-shove.
Relationships there are, of many kinds:
but whether pigs-with-lipstick, Golden Hinds,
one party is below, and one above:
one partner is the hawk, and one the dove.
If she’s the cheese, I am the humble rinds.
No matter where this crazy freeway winds,
there’s one thing that I’m always certain of:
a meeting (or collision?) of the minds:
a bedroom where we never draw the blinds.
Differences Of Opinion
It appears to be open season for political debate,
on whether troops should be stationed in foreign lands.
One party says our presence helps tension deescalate,
the other sees us as bullies making unjust demands.
One party believes in making our borders more secure,
the other seeks open borders letting movement be free.
It’s freedom and free stuff that is this country’s allure,
but of one thing I’m convinced, the two will never agree.
One reason that we’re found in this ongoing debate,
is because of our policy on taxes and spending.
As long as hearts are filled with animosity and hate,
we’ll never reach agreement, making debate never ending.
A camelot on the horizon, ending a Viet Nam war, fallen walls and Soviet Union collapse, while the people dreamed on, in the midst of food shortages, starvation and death, loss of home and hearth and the promises of change amidst the Afghan push and independent rule for land and possessions, tighting the hold over the popukace.
People though, are creatures of habit, wealth comes at a cost, then power and greed seek more control until... one party rule without obstacles alone survive the intimadation and lie, truth ground to dust, given in to the ruling class, the loudest voice, self centered, preserved by the dollar sign, the elephants in the room.
A golden age, full of golden dreams and hopes of golden years,
promiseof streets paved with gold inlays and paths worthy of taking,
possibilities that faded with the times, mere memories now
of what could have been, would have been, should have been
had we only stayed the course.
My ramblings on the changing times.
The Alternative view
Nature is not democratic
It doesn`t listen to the call for democracy
which as its name applies is a rule by the majority
and when the masses take the lead
They lead us into a one party one thinking Identity.
Be like us, and you can write what you want
as long as democratic lines are followed
Capitalism,
Communism,
Nationalism,
Socialism,
Belongs to the twenties century, big political parties too
are on the wane.
Politics, as we know, is local and decisions should be local
and we favour a structure the human into consideration.
We must never let one ruler lead us if we do
we get a Putin or a Trump, two equally bad examples
one is cynical the other is a fascist by heart.
We need an alternative and do away with the left or the right
this schism is leading us into a new war and we must
Not be afraid to sensor states that brutally suppress
other people not like them.
Zillion supporters screaming, a loud buzz,
Yearning to return home cheered by victory.
Xerox machines preparing the next day’s papers; Max
Wit for the shame or fame of a member of the show.
Violent vitriol from commentators like engine rev
Unites with supporters’ glee at likes of Eto’o or Kanu
To spur skill at each minute to get even one stunning stunt
Spirits soar, sink, so it is, for here serenity bores.
Roulette, lifté, counter-attack by one party raising the roar.
Quick kick! Oh no! Replay?! Why not? That must join the FAQ
Pray the corner kick slays the opponent; oh that header was sharp!
Oh he missed that goal again! No replay?! Hell no!
No! Now he’s channeled that ball too late for the man,
May the coach coach correctly and call him to quit the team!
Leave the pitch you little loss-bringing imp! LOL!
Khaki-wearing “messer” I can even get your reek!
Just as our jests are about to milk out laughs, I couldn’t find a word to end with “J”.
Instead I had a whole lot of them J-starting words. So I
Hunched to think, but then looked up at the BROOHAH:
GOAL GOAL!! Oops the scorer is the "Mr. Bug"!
Fooled? No, I’m still for him leaving,( Scoring oaf!)
Even though this elation, release and joy, came from his device!
Defensive tactics, offensive backing up, I can almost get mad
‘Cos the best defense is attack Doc!
Bye losers, we took this easy. Supporters bob
Away, and the whole stadium sleeps in the starlight bathed by mother Luna.
Our Political Divide
Miracle Man Opinion
6/17/2022
Each time a problem, of any kind, rears its head,
the establishment quickly looks for someone to blame.
Efforts should be directed toward problem solving instead,
but one party or the other goes all out to disclaim.
No matter what happens it’s the other party’s fault,
they’ll appoint a commission and hold kangaroo court.
Then ravage each other with a constant verbal assault,
while distorting the truth, to the media they resort.
Some wonder why many politicians aren’t respected,
they're adept at speaking from both sides of their mouth.
They cover their backsides and the people are oft neglected,
while our country is invaded by those from the south.
“When they call the roll in the senate,
the senators do not know whether to answer “present” or “not guilty.”
