The Etheree poem was created about twenty years ago by an Arkansas poet named Etheree 
Taylor Armstrong. The poem consists of ten lines of unmetered verse. The lines may also be 
rhymed or unrhymed depending on the style of the author. The first line of the poem has 
only one syllable. Thereafter, each succeeding line adds another syllable. There is a total 
syllable count of fifty-five in the poem. The Etheree poem is similar to a Nonet poem with the 
exception of the 10th line and syllable count. The Nonet only has 45 syllables, which is 16 
shorter than the Etheree poem. One may get creative and write an Etheree with more than 
one verse. This may take the form of a Double Etheree: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, then 10, 
9, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1; that is the style in which this poem is written.

Premium Member September 1979, My Hush Puppy Shoes Talked

On the corner of East and West streets,
                   there is a parallel lane that
    heads south, and just north of that,
               there are three roads in a
                          four-block radius
                              next to a six
                            lane freeway
                                    and a
                                    bike
                                    path
                                    and a
                           Pet Park with
                              a dog run by
                     the racetrack next to
                 the railroad yard between
              the docks and the airport but
                officer, my friend will drive me
          home since I live eighty miles away.

*After celebrating my September 3rd birthday with my friend out of town, wearing my grey-seal hush puppies, I walked to the nearest phone booth (no such thing as cellphone people) to call a nearby friend, because the guy that brought me was just loaded into a cab being too drunk. I'm the only one who doesn't live in the area, and I ain't paying for no $100 cab ride. After hanging up with my friend, I slumped down in the phone booth with my hush puppies out the door, and the local police showed up and took my statement. They gave me a copy since my friend showed up. My friend told me to read it because he never saw a place like it in the San Francisco bay area. My nonet describes several different places miles apart. I'm describing two of my sisters' homes, my third sister's workplace (bike path), my workplace (airport/docks), my parents home (pet park) and my home (BART train/racetrack). Six-lane freeways are everywhere. The title says it.

God's Silence

Have you ever listened to The silence of God? I have 
The tear shaped raindrop as it Plops splattering upon a leaf 
Forming a stream that rushes as a river from source to mouth 
Once again forming a tear shape at the leaf’s very tip 
Then nature's nectar repeats its journey striking another leaf 
Have you ever listened to God's silence. I have. 
I feel the warm, bright, glow and hear the roaring from afar 
As God's great sphere of fire sets in the western sky 
Listen as the sun sizzles, and sinks below the Earth's horizon 
Casting a reddish orange hue across a darkening blue sky 
Have you ever listened to God's silence? I have. 
There is a rustling among the vegetation that fills the woodlands 
As minute, petite, sensitive feet quickly scamper about 
Foraging forward and backward, skipping and hopping 
Searching for the safety among a profound beauty 
Seeking and finding disappearance among the blending foliage 
Which exist in a deep, and darkening forest of green 
Have you ever listened to the silence of God? I have. 
The violent crash of tumbling ocean waves 
As the roaring foam pounds upon the sandy beaches of white 
Then spreads its contents and quickly returns to its commence 
Beyond the spilling of the ocean standing proudly are sea oats 
Bending not breaking but gently swaying, dancing with content 
In a natural harmony that plays in a soft whistle of a salty breeze 
Have you ever strolled among God's silence? I have. 
Watching as robust pelican flies low in the sky 
Almost kissing the rolling waves beneath his flight 
A sanderling chases the ocean foam back from whence it came 
As above the long winged gull gracefully glides 
While scrounging for anything it may break fast upon 
Have you ever listened to God's silence? I have.

<                             I'm going on journey ~ back in time
                               When I should of listened to my .... heart
                               But instead just followed ....  head 
                               What a mistake that .... was
                               Let me tell you .... now
                               Poor old ... lady
                               Didn't ... do
                               Noth ~ ing
                               Wrong !



                              Carrying her groceries home from the ... store
                              Me ~ brother ~ sister ~ brother's ... friend
                              Tossing lit~ firecrackers
                              Laughing ... and .... giggling 
                              Looking ~ for ... trouble
                              And here she ... came
                              Four ..... against
                              Just ... one
                              Wow   !



                              Bet poor old women didn't .... expect
                              Handfull of lit .... firecrackers
                              To be tossed in her own .... bags
                              Others ran like .... dickens
                              I stayed and helped   ...  her
                              Picked up her ... stuff
                              And ... carried
                              Them ... all

Consumption, the name of the game.
The hunger devours the horse,
fattens me to the core.
I'm about to burst...

2. My my what a big piece of the pie!
Pension raiders anonymous.
We live to carry secrets,
yearning to fill this need.
Profit devotees
live a life of
penniless
loveless
fear.

3. I mean honest to God, what's the point?
We're all gonna die...why bother?
I may as well just sit here
wallowing in despair,
a quiet, lonely,
unproductive
slacker. A
loveless
fear.

4. You want the goods? I'll give you the goods!
Come here baby and say hello.
How easy is it to come
to life, awe inspiring
mother to us all
prostituting
shame, guilt, and
loveless
fear.

5. Mirror mirror on the bathroom wall.
Am I pretty enough to be
a beauty queen? Parade me
around in fancy cars.
I must protect my
reputation
hinged on a
loveless
fear.

6. Grass is greener on the other side.
Why wouldn't it be? These neighbors
are so filthy rich with their
hundred thousand dollar
landscaping jobs and
mansions built on
envious
loveless
fear.

7. In the end there was always hatred,
deeply seated, mindless, blind rage.
Searching for a suitable
target. Lies built on lies.
Ready to explode:
unforgiving,
merciless,
loveless
fear.


By all means, you sinless wretch
Go ahead, live on cloud nine!
But I can't share in your euphoric state of ecstasy...
I just don't feel that way about myself
never have
never will

My Hopes For the World

In this world of chaos and confusion,
Where wars and hatred seem to reign,
I still hold on to my hopes and dreams,
And pray for a brighter, better world to sustain.

I hope for a world where love is the language,
And kindness and compassion are the norm,
Where people see the good in each other,
And help each other weather any storm.

I hope for a world where the air is clean,
And nature thrives in all its splendor,
Where humans live in harmony with the earth,
And strive to be its true defender.

I hope for a world where all are equal,
And justice prevails in every land,
Where every person is treated with respect,
And bigotry and prejudice are banned.

I hope for a world where children can play,
Without fear of harm or danger,
Where their innocence is preserved and protected,
And their futures are always getting brighter.

I hope for a world where knowledge is power,
And education is a right for all,
Where people are encouraged to learn and grow,
And their potential is never held small.

I hope for a world where laughter abounds,
And joy is found in every heart,
Where people celebrate each other's differences,
And come together to create a new start.

I know these hopes may seem like a distant dream,
But I hold them close and never lose sight,
For the power of hope is a mighty thing,
And it can help us all to reach the light.

So let us work together to make these hopes a reality,
And strive to be the change we want to see,
For a better world is within our reach,
If we believe and work towards unity.

Hope Is the Anchor That Keeps Us Steady

Hope is the flame that burns within,
A spark that ignites even in the darkest of sin.
It gives us courage to face our fears,
And dries the tears we've cried for years.

Hope is the light that shines so bright,
Guiding us through the darkest night.
It whispers softly in our ear,
"Keep going, my dear, you have nothing to fear."

Hope is the anchor that keeps us steady,
When the winds of life are strong and unsteady.
It reminds us that we're not alone,
And gives us strength to carry on.

So hold on to hope, don't let it go,
For it will carry you through the ebb and flow.
With hope in your heart and a smile on your face,
You can conquer any challenge, any place.

A seed of strength that helps us cope,
And fills our hearts with endless hope.

With hope in hand, we bravely face,
