Another day, another way
Another year, another tear
Another place, different space
Old book, new look
Old fears, new tears
Look back, different tack
Loose ends, old friends
Say goodbye, heavy sigh
Another pickle, life's fickle
Must fight, no light
Money spent, anger pent
New sun, nothing done
Seeds sown, food grown
Another hour, pretty flower
Birds tweet, so sweet
Cold frost, plants lost
Bent over, search clover
No luck, still stuck
Blue sky, can't fly
Soul bare, I care
Drugged nutter, dirty gutter
Back lane, insane
Hair lank, face blank
Empty mind, chose blind
Find peace, wars cease
Old world, flag furled
Modern world, Brain curled
No room, such gloom
Brain flop, full stop.
Our modern world has become
so advanced and sophisticated,
and its technology is at our fingertips;
unlikely yesterday when everything was slow-paced,
now fast-food and credit cards are a convenience...
and poverty is the plight of low-income!
Some will know greatness,
for having made unthinkable strides,
and they will be honored or even immortilized;
and I like to be one of them...simply remembered!
The great minds of the past, like those of today,
struggled to come out of obscurity,
until Popes and wealthy people recognized their genius;
and those names became so glorious!
Each one of us is born with an amazing gift,
and through vocation and inspiration,
it can grow in size and scope...
if it's used with good intention!
Painters choose the colors of their images,
writers create the words of their moods;
sculptors carve out faces with a chisel,
and composers imitate the feelings of the soul!
Some will know greatness,
and though riches may not ever be theirs...
their works are the reflection of themselves,
or of others who made a difference;
we have seen them, admired them
and applauded them with excitement!
And they are as detemined as we are,
fullfilling a mission beyond compare!
It seems that there is no shortage
of blind fools in the world today,
wishing that masculinity
would die, or whither away.
As if it were a simple choice,
and not written into our cells,
not realizing that without us
their future would not go well.
It may not be fashionable,
but that makes in no less true,
we need to teach both young and old
the value of manly virtues.
Ambition is a giant one,
and the most misunderstood,
but when channeled productively
it does us all enormous good.
The machines of the modern world
were not ordered by government,
but came from ambitious minds,
after years of toil spent.
The male need to be number one
gave us planes, computers, and cars,
so we teach our boys to use it,
and it takes society far.
Courage may be the most well-known,
and by many is called the best,
essential in a life that seems
an endless series of tests.
And those who test us never fail
to intimidate and make threats,
courage is what makes a man say,
“That’s as far as you’re gonna get.”
When you wish to cower and flee,
when the bullets fly for real,
it’s courage that stiffens the spine,
and makes men into hardened steel.
Then there comes Tenacity,
perhaps the strongest of the lot,
dismissed as mere ‘stubbornness’
by the folks who have not sought
to push a dream until its end,
to keep fighting until you’ve won,
in this grinding world stubbornness
is how all great things are done.
Not through strength or connections,
but by an endless force of will,
tenacity is what men use
to summit this life’s steep hills...
CONCLUDES IN PART II.
("Snake II", 2015, original block print)
Gaslit
In these times of constant parading
The emperor in his new gown
Sets the fashion for the whole world
Everywhere you look
People blindly proclaiming the nakedly absurd
With confidence born in numbers.
Now basic biological facts of male and female
Have morphed into a fluid nonbinary
Mishmash of possibilities, where instead of in balance
Nurture is stridently mightier than nature.
Not withstanding, tropes of masculine violence somehow immune
To this new social-science,
People who’ve apparently never had house pets
Postulate that in world without males there’d be no violence.
What used to be common sense observation for even a child
That racial differences are obvious, if not so easily defined,
Have become the dogma;
“Race is merely a social construct.”
On the climate front all is hysteria
As what used to be an essential sustainer of life
Is rebranded a toxic gas
Existentially threatening to end all life on Earth.
And in politics, mild protest has become insurrection,
Terrorist attacks embraced as the democratic process,
And the sanctity and security of our vote
Chewed up by a machine that knows no law or shame.
Now the new Nazis call themselves the “Anti-Fascists”
And of course brand all opponents “Nazis”
As if name-calling makes something so
In their make-believe post-modern world of subjective truth.
Hate is love, war is peace
Rigid conformity diversity, destruction creativity,
Abortion the path to modern motherhood
And enslavement to ideology somehow freedom.
These are the times we live in
When gaslighting has replaced the news, entertainment and education
And objective truth driven underground or out into a desert
Away from the masses
Where it can be as it always has, untrodden and free
Yet as deadly as ever to those who refuse to see.

Deception with a smile will destroy many
Hidden jealousy will drain your life
A smile can become a mask, so
Live lightly and try to be anxious for nothing
This is not easy, but necessary in this modern world
When your smile is gone
He cares; all you have to do is
Dare to call Him even when you 'fall'
He knows your pain,
So retain your joy and live your
Life with God like a little boy
God cares, so share your pain
With Him and He can carry your burden
God is the great surgeon
When your smile is gone
He cares; all you have to do is 'dare'
To call Him even when you 'fall'
God is good
He stood on a 'hill' and declared
His love as He came down like a dove and
Showered us with mercy and grace
He cares when your smile is gone,
He is the great surgeon

In this modern world
Where everything seems fake
There are few genuine relationships left
Most relationships are market driven
How can this person help me
In my career or in life
What can I get from them
How can I use them for my advantage
And what do they want in return
And we are all nothing but personal brands
Competing all the time for the next gig job
And romance
Has been reduced to sexual lust
And nothing more
And few people want babies
Any more
Babies are expensive
And limit your ability
To compete for your next bed partner
And being real, telling people what we really think
Is usually a CLM – career limiting move so to speak
So, everyone hides their true feelings
And are resigned to living this fake life
In a world filled with fake people
I wonder if there are any real people left
The hailstones pounded the window
as violently,as if they had minds
bent on killing;soldiers in rows and ranks rushing onwards;
as each fell another and another took its place.
Cold and mathematical they had a simple precise force and geometry.
Into this warlike scene, floated two white butterflies
Crossing and recrossing the spaces between the hail
they followed a random path;now together.now apart
Their unplanned, loving dance leads to mating, procreation and a future
while the hailstones can only die.
Seems sometimes fragile freedom is more productive
than the fierce mechanical modern world can imagine.
I see the butterflies now like startled flowers
hunting for the sun
Christmas Tree in the bedroom this year
sugar cookies for my Sweets
supreme delight surprise for my curious taste buds
some old Christmas soul playing from another rare channel that i discovered
the stars are bright
the moon is fondly full
two whole weeks with nowhere to go
Christmas movies galore
AND AWAY WE GOOOOO!
we forget about time, work, bills, and the modern world
it will be there when we get back
she tells me to turn up the volume
i gladly oblige with no hesitation
the smiles are so obvious
the chocolate chip cookies are now ready
my aging stomach growls in delight despite
i turn off the old Christmas soul because the movie is getting good
my Sweets in her favorite robe and throw blanket and i in my man stuff
are all settled down in a vibe after smoothing out what was rough
no debris, no dirt, no ashes, and no dust
our binge watching on 11, Santa Claus will be chillin' eatin' cookies and other things with us
only in numbers
never in words
we send codes
no longer do we live in the modern world
yet and still we fail to ascend
we are branded insane
our lifestyle is featured in NoWhere Anonymous
only existing out of print
i guess i will fix the sink
i guess you will hand me the tools
the dusty cd no longer will play
the dual cassette boombox was made by aiwa,
so it has not been working since decorative day one
why not join the earthworms
i wonder if slimy is still alive
all thrones in the dirt are made of mildew, which is weird
does that not define us
please become defiant and refuse to believe
a question mark will be served to you tomorrow after your wake up call
i think i will have exactly the same
Dream on man
War is constant
It has gone beyond
Catholic or Protestant
Religious wars
From our short lived past
Will never dilute
As long as we last
In this modern world
We fight for different reasons
What ever the excuse
And in any season
We fight over land
Imaginary WMD
Even over soccer
How the hell can that be
We now fight over oil
In a camouflaged war
Taking innocents with us
In public deplore
Guerrilla, assault
Bombing with precision
We vote them in
As they twist their decisions
Dream on man
War has changed
Greed has taken over
From the pasts deranged
