Mickey and Minnie were lovers
Not ones you're thinking about, my friends
Mickey Swartz and Minnie O'Malley
A pairing they had to defend
Got married just a little while ago
To the dismay of the people they knew
From a couple of totally different cultures
Had the blessings of only a few
Why does it matter and create such a furor
Isn't the most important thing love
Love conquers all, that's what matters most
Other judgements, we should rise above
Aware this is quite a controversial subject
Not everyone agrees with my stance
What I say is “live and let live”
No matter how we put on their pants
We're all apart of the HUMAN race
Though we don't all use the same tongue
Please give Mickey and Minnie your blessing
No matter what background they're from

This is something old Walter never talked about
But I wonder if Mickey and Minnie ever made out
Judging by their physiques might have been quite a challenge
Can't you just imagine Mickey yelling out those bad words
Like, “golly” and “gee whiz, Miss Minnie”
“You were g-r-r-r-r-e-a-a-a-a-t!!!”
Next time let's do it in your mousey hole*
(* Uh, that's where mousies live, you bad naughty people!”)
Okay I'll never be able to watch another Mickey Mouse cartoon again
Without the visual popping into my brain
Same with Donald and Daisy Duck!
Hope the kiddies never find out!!!
maybe there is a neat way to tell this story.
maybe pretty words and smooth cadences
could iron down the shaking of my hands
but i can’t seem to find the words.
like a fuzzy memory, there but not quite.
maybe that memory will someday be whole.
the static in my mind settled like dust
on a bed in a room we weren’t supposed to be in
and now i’m here, trying to pick up the pieces
that five year old girl couldn’t even understand.
i remember the bedsheets.
the rich crimson taunting my peripheral.
i remember my voice shrinking
my stance crumbling
i had only wanted to play.
i remember his request, softened by our age,
the way we called them “minnie” and “mickey”.
such simple terms feel like scalding water, now.
i remember standing in that old doorway,
“no” wasn’t an option, and “yes” was a lie.
i don’t remember anything else.
i don’t remember how long it lasted,
how far it went,
and i think that part scares me the most.
i don’t remember if he kept his hands to himself.
the guilt had swallowed me whole,
i figured i was naughty for caving in,
that i couldn’t tell anyone or i’d get in trouble.
i was scared, so, so scared.
and i still am, really.
there isn’t a neat way to tell this story.
i was five years old,
and i feel just as vulnerable even now.
there were no pretty words or smooth cadences.
i didn’t even know how to write my name.
the memory isn’t quite whole,
so i’ll revise the pieces i have
and i’ll sit with them until it stops hurting.
i’ll sit with her
until our hands stop shaking.
Disney songs uplift me.
They make me giddy.
I want to dance.
Hi Ho Hi Ho It’s off to Work We Go!
Fantasia is startling new each time I watch it.
The colors, the music, the jazz!
Disney wanted all of the songs to sound classical.
When you Wish Upon a Star……
I am a cartoonist, I know it is because of Disney.
Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Goofy!
How much more American can you get?
A Spoonful of Sugar Makes the Medicine Go Down…
Disneyland and Disney World.
Oh, man. Who could ever get tired of Disney?
Not to even mention the princesses or
Burl Ives and the “Ugly Bug Ball”.
Disney makes me sing and dance.
Xander does not dress like other men
We knew that when we saw the kitty cat on his shirt
and the perky pastel pink top hat with the pink ribbon on his head
he likes his suspenders, grandma said.
Was this an apology, an explanation or a warning?
Xander always matches his suspenders to his hats whispered a cousin.
We had no idea what to expect from this kindergarten teacher.
He wore shirts with Snoopy, Mickey and Minnie, and Donald Duck
With matching theme suspenders and hats
Xander had a keen sense of humor, and he made us laugh
He brought playdough and glitter and paints and we loved him
He is a keeper! We told Grandma, and so she did.

Cute little Mickey,
Shown on national T.V.
Adorned by many,
Loved by Minnie.
You act gracefully,
You make me happy,
Before I sleep every day,
I make sure you and I will play.
You are my favorite mouse,
Different designs you can see in our house,
Can’t take my eyes off you,
I always hug you when I’m feeling blue.

Admired by many from afar,

How he stirred his tea is his affair.
Any amount of shove and push,
like a beating about the bush,
will drive him up sanity’s wall.
It’ll make his coming out to stall.
More than the sum total of parts.
Eyebrows are raised at broken hearts.
Like flotsam, affairs jettisoned
and much of the jetsam yet to stoned.
The episode at Walt’s party,
back in the day of drink hearty,
where Mickey and Minnie romped
on the screen amongst feet stomped.
Giving his due: He’s debonair
and goes through life without a care.
His Free Will not ever questioned,
and compassion not sessioned.
If passion weighed up against norm
and he’s expected to conform,
what message do others relate?
Their self-loathing must abate.
