To tell the truth,
I was no fan of opera, in my youth...
When did it come...? That turning point....?
I do not know, ........
perhaps I grew, to understand...
a wrenching tale his stories told
can grab the heart... ...grip fast ...and hold!
Puccini came, from out of nowhere
It finally made more sense to me...in spite of those who scoff, and shake their heads
Alive once more....this man long dead
has stirred my soul, ........and I was lead, into the clouds, where heaven lives!
I became a fan, ...and realized, such music lives within the blood
It rushes in, and floods my veins, just as it did to those so long ago
An aria... then a divine duet....Rodolpho and his sweet coquette
connects me to a vine entwined,
with those who listenend, long before my time.
Sitting in the dark tonight, I pause to think
who would have dreamed
how tears in the eyes, have formed a thousand rivers?
Long through the ages, still coiling with emotion
devotional artists, sing of such rapture
into the rafter's to countless reception...
A lover's kiss, the singing with prose
Skins turning cold....from the chill beauty holds
Tears to unfold, hypnotic poses
A bliss such as this
has left generations.... breathless
As the curtain is closed........ I must compose myself
Old music that echoes, as it has for centuries
bouncing off these walls....as I'm torn into two....
mingling with my heart, the old with the new
The rafter's of time, have absorbed one more time
Two tragic lovers, declaring in song
Throngs have been sung to.....hearts have been wrung
I listen, I watch, as lovers fade from the light
in poignant beauty, drifting away...
...........dying in the distance, ........
as will Mimi,
leaving her love behind....alone with a shattered heart
as death tears them apart
leaving my eyes brimming over
with tears in the dark

"Music By Puccini"
She has seen so much before Her eyes
they have lost their sparkle
She sits in Her chair to watch the hummingbirds
flit and sip at the bird feeders She has prepared
She has made those for years
i remember sitting with Her and talking
about boys and schoolwork
and how beautiful the hummingbirds
sounded as they zipped past the screen door
we know they will return
Her taste for pecans never
prevented Her from collecting them
off Her land for pies and candies
Her legs hurt from walking too long
how i miss picking pecans with Her
as i grew time was lost
and i visited Her less and less
with regret i think of
all the talks and fun and laughter
while we canned fruits and jellies together
i wish i could bring back those years
the summer before i was married
we talked of love and happiness
and i was privileged to know how
Pa and Ma met when she asked,
"Do You Believe In Love At First Sight?"
we stayed up 'til morning talk of
mike and how She believed he was an
angel and how She met her first husband
and the birth of mimi, i know She has
always love me
i am Her pride and joy
She has lived a long life that was hard
but worth it because She has produced
a wonderful family
that babies Her in Her old age
oh, how She hates that
She talks about Her last days as if
tomorrow Her soul will take flight
and wonders why God hasn't sent for Her yet
perhaps She is not done
or He wishes Her to see something precious
i wonder if it is for me (how narcissistic)
to see my wedding or the birth of the daughter
that will carry Her middle name
She cried when i told Her that
but that's how much She means to me
i vainly pray that She will live long enough
to see these things that are important to me
when She will be able to hold
with Her middle name
Her great-great-granddaughter, LEE ellen
now She sits in her rocking chair
watching the hummingbirds
Her soul takes flight upon a gentle
breeze that carried Her far away in time
when She could pick pecans and can jellies
when She and Pa met
or when Her children were born
i know many stories from Her past
and i am proud that i am the only one
that has taken the flight with her soul
on one of those gentle breezes

Cap'n & the Wench *part the fourth*
Says the Wench t'the Cap'n "Me thinks I'll 'ave me some White Lightnin' "
So says the Cap'n t'the Wench "Go right ahead Me Dear~
Fer y've ne'er been quite so Frightnin' "
With an Evil Grin & a Twinkle in his Eye~
So's the Wench did notice & then By & By~
& did say to the Cap'n "Be mindin' Yer P's & Q's!"
"Fer Me's the Wench what Decides that which Ye Do!"
"Yer no Grinnin'Porpoise & that there's no Danged Flipper!"
"Har!" says the Cap'n ~ "I am though the Skipper!"
The Wench danced along the Bowsprit of the Great Vessel that Night~
Whilst Mighty SeaWolf stormed along the Decks with all of his Might~
Sails which had lay flat now filled Fastly with Breeze~
Now came that night most Confused sort of Seas~
The Great ship did lay over as Far as she'd Go~
And 'twas the Wench who no longer Ran to & Fro~
Now did those geat waves Break o'er the Ship
Not even the the Great SeaWolf could give 'em the Slip~
Upon the Great Ship and all Her Captain & Crew~
Had befallen the luck Uncommon to but a Few~
For the Great Ship No longer Sailed O'er the Oceans~
And the Mighty SeaWolf drifted toward other Notions~
Says the Wench to the Cap'n "Me thinks I'll rap ya up side o'yer Head!"
So says the Cap'n to the Wench "Go right ahead Me Dear!~
Fer 'twas you brung young Mimi to Bed!"
"Har!" says the Cap'n ~ "I am No Longer the Skipper!"
The Great Ship is Never Seen Sailin' Agin on the Seas....
Spirits were Never that with which this Hardy Wench to Please!

Devil go away
Why won't you just go away
Go away
Why don't you just go
away, go away;
Git thee behind me devil, devil
Go away, Go away
Git thee behind me
Go away, Go away
Devil go away
fall down from the third heaven;
fall down past the ground
go down to hell where you belong
devil go away
devil go away
devil go away
Git thee behind me Satan
Lucifer, dragon, devil;
Take your hands off me I choose not to follow thee
take your hands off me, off me
take your hands off me
take your hands off me
off me
Why won't you just go away
Go away
Why don't you just go
away, go away;
Git thee behind me devil, devil
Go away, Go away
devil go away
devil go away
devil go away
ibilisi aondoke
devil go away

Kwa nini huwezi tu kwenda mbali
Toka hapa
Kwa nini wewe tu hawaendi
mbali, kwenda mbali;
Git nawe nyuma yangu Shetani, ibilisi
Kwenda mbali, kwenda mbali
Git nawe nyuma yangu kwenda mbali, kwenda mbali
Ibilisi aondoke
kuanguka kutoka mbinguni ya tatu;
kuanguka nyuma ya ardhi
kwenda kuzimu ambapo wewe ni
ibilisi aondoke
ibilisi aondoke
ibilisi aondoke
Git nawe nyuma yangu Shetani
Lusiferi, joka, ibilisi;
Kuchukua mikono yako mbali yangu mimi kuchagua kufuata nawe
kuchukua mikono yako mbali nami, mbali yangu
kuchukua mikono yako mbali nami
kuchukua mikono yako mbali nami
mbali mimi
Kwa nini huwezi tu kwenda mbali
Toka hapa
Kwa nini wewe tu hawaendi
mbali, kwenda mbali;
Git nawe nyuma yangu Shetani, ibilisi
Kwenda mbali, kwenda mbali
ibilisi aondoke
ibilisi aondoke
ibilisi aondoke
ibilisi aondoke
ibilisi aondoke
ibilisi aondoke

written by James Edward Lee Sr. from "Swahili Praise Anthology"
It’s what we had all waited for
What we practiced for all year
Not that I am bragging
But I was the one to fear
Now Sheila was a gammer
And MiMi had the charm
Jinx was just my sister
Not one of them an arm
Not that the game took muscle
It was more or less technique
I had loads of talent
The others – well – were weak
With the board up on the table
We all took our places
I turned to look each in the eye
They showed nothing in their faces
We each took up our squidger
Between our thumb and finger
Placed it on the edge of a wink
And for a moment linger
We were aiming for the little cup
There in the table’s middle
For winks that land within the cup
Each scored a single tiddle
Then “pop” we press down on the wink
And “flop” the wink goes flying
Hopefully right in the cup
For we were really trying
But I missed my first wink
Then it’s squopped by another player
And I can’t play that wink again
Because it’s down at least a layer
We go around the table
Each scoring tiddles fine
I’m playing so darn good in fact
I think the trophy’s mine
But Jinx and Sheila had my wink squopped
And I’ve no play to move it
And MiMi has but one wink left
And boy did she sure groove it
Oh, I had the talent, I had the skill
And I know I could beat them still
But those three girls ganged up on me
Squopped my wink so I would be
Covered up without a play
And that’s how it played out that day
I lost my crown in Tiddlewinks
Beat out by Sheila, MiMi, Jinx

Squidger = circular disk used to propel winks
Wink = circular disk counter in game
Pot = cup in center of game board
Tiddle = point scored by landing wink in cup
Squopped = getting your wink covered by one or more other player's wink
And I
And I love you
And I
Adore you
And I love U
And I love U
And I love U
I love U
And I
I love you
And I pray often, that you
Will choose me to be
Be your earthly King
For I’ll treat you like a Queen
God made you that for me
And I am grateful, so very grateful….
The way you smile, last a long while
And when you talk, you sound as a meadowlark
Far be it from me to judge one of God’s queens
I love the way you pray
And I love you when you sing
The humbleness, the worship
You’re an honor to the king
Na mimi
Na ninakupenda
Na mimi
Kukubali wewe
Na ninampenda U
Na ninampenda U
Na ninampenda U
nakupenda
Na mimi
nakupenda
Na ninaomba mara nyingi, kwamba wewe
Utaamua mimi kuwa
Kuwa Mfalme wako wa duniani
Kwa maana nitakufanyia kama Malkia
Mungu alikufanya wewe kwa ajili yangu
Na nina shukrani, hivyo ninashukuru sana ....
Namna unasisimua, mwisho wa muda mrefu
Na wakati unapozungumza, unasikia kama meadowlark
Mbali iwe kwangu kuhukumu mmoja wa viongozi wa Mungu
And I
And I love you
And I
Adore you
And I
Pray for you each and everyday
And I
And I love you
And I
Adore you
And I love U
And I love U
And I love U
I love U
Na mimi
Na ninakupenda
Na mimi
Kukubali wewe
Na mimi
Ombeni kwa kila siku
Na mimi
Na ninakupenda
Na mimi
Kukubali wewe
Na ninampenda U
Na ninampenda U
Na ninampenda U
nakupenda
And I
And I love you
And I
Adore you
And I
Pray for you each and everyday
And I
And I love you
And I
Adore you
And I love U
And I love U
And I love U
I love U

Koooooo Zhik Zhik Zhik Zhik Zhik
Caterpillar Dominick
Trailing a leash of ponytail
Of smoke in the evening
Me and Mimi and my parents
Lily and aaron
Sitting on our mammoth bag
waiting for first green flag
And it moved a little
Ha it moved like beetle
To the back haha Mimi
See this poor lime tree
Whoosh whoosh...
It moved like Gabloo
fat crazy muskander
It really moved, Mimi
Hahahahahahahahah
Koo Zhiks Zhiks Zhiks Zhiks
Hahaha Mimi leaked
Great piddler, she was nine
Full of beans
Crazy train
Running like a jackal
Through the wild wolfbane
Through the mist of rain......

It was hidden below her hairline, across her nape of neck, for her to know that it was there, but no one else just yet.
Younger sister Sophie snuck through her bedroom window. And no one knew that she had gone to party and to dance, to greet, to meet, to drink with friends in Haute Sauverne in France.
Sophie had wisely second thought of riding with the fire chief son, but school friends had allayed concern, all piling in, and not alone, fifteen year old could soon be home, when dance and fun was done.
The night was cold, the heater on, and and tired young man drove off the road, hard crashing with his precious load. Dear Sophie was the only one, with belt forgot, which was undone. Friend sat beside while they both cried and friend held fast her trembling hand, held hand while Sophie cried, held hands while Sophie died.
Four sisters now are three. There's Jen and Natalie, and then the youngest of them all is known only as Mimi. They lost their sparkle lively one, their dearest sister Sophie. They lost their dearest lively one. Four sisters, though not now alone, four sisters now are three.
And so, some time since shock subsides, though sadness never gone, I glanced those words beneath her hair, those words discretely hid, that parents would forbid if they had shown, if they had known that they were there.
But older sister was compelled to get for Sophie sister gone, those words always remembered yet, in tattoo script on nape of neck, her pleading words to not forget, and which said, secret 'neath her hair, and yet cut deep forever there:
'wake her up and tell her',
yes, 'tell her that I love her.'
