Goodnight Rome

Goodnight to our Rome with all your garrisons
and your streets that have become
as loveless as empty barracks.
For you I will never weep.
After all,
your Senators
Who made the deals
To keep the last
Last
And the first bored
and lost in ennui,
govern the burning ruins
of the human city which evicted the cobbler
and used the electorate as a weapon
With unforgiving recoil
Which guarantees
that
the bottom will stay at the bottom
and dance to the music of the
midnight carousel.
2
Now that the middleman has been cast
To the prairie grass
With his own middle cut away
His fate was decided over lunch
The legal apparatus has fallen from its hinge
Leaving only the greatest felony
Unnamed.
And who are our neighbors
When we’re sentenced to the
Four year winter hotel?
Will they be the nameless ghosts
Evicted from their bodies by those
Who are afforded the right to escape the tombs
With kept wives in cheap furs
And Upper eastside penthouses.
And in all those apartments
All the beautiful people
Wash down oxycodone with fine wine
While bitching about the junkie below.
“Send the cops to clean up the drug
Problem,” they cry.
“All addictions should come with a ‘scrip.”

It takes a truly trained country
with few alternatives
to put a knife to its own throat
or hand it over
to an orange buffoon
with a poor hair cut
in a loveless room.
He always
 lines up his bets
on what con will turn the American heart
into just another dead
theater
where it was all the show of shows.
And when the decision is made
The worst one is chosen.
The decision has certainly been made.
For what other country
Choses a landlord so crooked
All self-respecting cons
Walk past him
Never stopping at all
For fear he will pick their pockets clean
For he is the biggest con of all,
Who now has to do a sometimes honest man’s job.
Those he loved the least
Ignored all the papers
Who for once
Didn’t celebrate
The game of chance
But cried out
With the urgency of a siren
During an air raid
to pick the other.
While he spoke as one of the mob
His heart was that of a landlord
Looking to evict
All his useful idiots
From their lots.
For now he can expect nothing in the end
But to stand on the stairs
Or escalator
When all your Senators approach
smiling
 with drawn knives.
“Et tu Sessions?”

Mandy, am I right in thinking you wear a brassiere.

We just call them bra’s, Paul, cuts out the middleman, and as you can see, yes.

Right, is there any chance I could borrow one of your bra’s.

Most guys go for the knickers, why do you want a bra.

I want to put something in it.

That is gross, no wonder Jenny dumped you.

She didn’t dump me for that.

So what is it then, are you obsessed with my breasts.

No, I’m not obsessed with your breasts.

Why not, what’s wrong with them.

Nothing's wrong with them, they’re great.

That is so inappropriate for senior management, I’ve got a good mind to report you.

I want to put a device in your bra, and if the response is what I know it will be, I’ll offer you fifty percent in my new company.

That sounds intriguing, Paul, so what do I have to do.

Just give me one of your bra’s, I’ll put the device in it, you go home and put it on. They’re three settings on it, so start at one and see how you get on.

Should I include Joe in this experiment.

Well, the more feedback, the better.

Next day. So, what’s the feedback.

I put Joe in hospital, that’s the feedback.

What, what the hell did you do.

I put it on setting one, and after a few minutes I felt this tingling sensation, and that just put me in the mood. Then I got Joe into bed and turned it onto setting two. My god, I was demanding sex in every position conceivable, it was fantastic like out of this world, so then I went to position three as I was straddling him on the kitchen table. It sent me mental, I must have scratched and punched him to a pulp, cos he was unconscious when I came round.

Right, so maybe we should get rid of position three.

No, I was thinking we could market position three for S and M clients.

That is a great executive decision, Mandy, I can see this company going from strength to strength.

One thing, Paul, why can’t you put this device in woman’s knickers, would that not work just as well.

It did work just as well, Mandy. I gave a pair to Jenny, and she dumped me two days later with the words. You are now surplus to requirements.

Premium Member Injustice, Survive -- and Thrive

Those who today loudly voice their complaints
Might do well to study a people most quaint
The Jewish People for 3,332 years has survived
Despite pogroms and holocausts, still quite alive

A former slave nation exiled to Persia almost 2,500 years ago
Jerusalem then razed to the ground by Rome, as you know
Jews lived by the skin of their teeth for 1,900 years
Until they retook Jerusalem in 1967, a miracle it appeared

Herded into ghettos in Western Europe 'til Napoleon
And the 'Pale of Settlement' further east 'til the 20th century dawned
Jews kept a low profile, in the face of Injustice didn't complain
Beatings, Blood-Libels, Round-ups -- all sorts of Pain

Jews couldn't own land; they were barred from all professions
Countless peasants falsely accused Jews of murder at confession
The Jew became a middleman, a despised money-changer
If he tried to pass for a gentile, his very life was in danger

As if all that weren't enough, last century 6 million precious Jewish souls
died in Nazi gas chambers, crematoria, trenches, open holes
One-third of all the world's Jews wiped out in just six years
Pregnant women and infants murdered in that Valley of Tears

Today Jews are in Jerusalem, Israel! a People standing strong
They refused to give up hope just because they were wronged
What's their secret, you may ask. How did they do it
No smoke. No mirrors. They just stubbornly stuck to it...

Rule #1: Education, universal literacy for all of their seed
From the age of three, every Jewish child's taught to read
Next: Family purity, the holiness and sanctity of wedlock
Women always had rights! but no infant aborted, no child 'bad luck'

And finally, what kept it all together, down through the ages
An unshakeable belief in God and His Law, no matter the outrages
So, from the Jews you might want to take a softer-voiced cue
For you too can do it. Just follow three rules...

Simple Simon

Simple Simon the blessed pieman,
Woke up fresh as the day began,
Busy cooking, his wife named Anne,
Made his breakfast in a saucepan,

Enjoyed eating his plate of flan,
Simple Simon the blessed pieman,
Filled with it and a bit more than,
Kissed his wife as the best he can,

Came a knock was cousin Tristan,
Kissed her again before he ran,
Simple Simon the blessed pieman,
Walking with his fellow kinsman,

Who was a bit like a Tarzan,
He says, "We'll do as we did plan",
Simon says, "Yes, buy us a van",
Simple Simon the blessed pieman,

Simple Simon the blessed pieman,
His cousin be an anchorman,
Does things like some sort of game plan,
Says he will talk to the salesman,

Interviews him like a newsman,
Simple Simon the blessed pieman,
Let him run the show as one-man,
Naught be a common businessman,

Just glad to be a middleman,
As Tristan drew the masterplan
Simple Simon the blessed pieman,
Waiting ate a bowl of pecan,

Tossed all the shells in a trash can,
Tristan smiled, "Got the minivan",
"And at a price that cost less than",
Simple Simon the blessed pieman,

Simple Simon the blessed pieman,
Twas showroom new, in black and tan,
Best terms on the installment plan,
Signed, gift his full attention span,

While at the station, thanked Tristan,
Simple Simon the blessed pieman,
Drove on home to show his wife Anne,
Who had a guest her friend, Roxanne,

Amused they were with the new van,
The cost, the look, in black and tan,
Simple Simon the blessed pieman,
Took wife Anne and her friend Roxanne,

Proud just been a little more than,
Wide-eyed no call by the sandman,
Off from work with Anne and their van,
Simple Simon the blessed pieman.

Premium Member The eternal question - God, no God, maybe God

Made in God’s image, we are living light
We affirm since we’ve been, seen and so known
We have seen God face to face, in plain sight
All was revealed when we chose to atone

Recognising the transience of earth life
Weary of chasing objects of desire
One day we turned our back on needless strife
And set out to find God, our heart on fire

We began by purifying our heart
Becoming so to speak, a child again
Deeming all souls one, none standing apart
Was our chosen path to be free from pain

No sooner we began, thus with elan
Holy Spirit aligned with our soul’s plan

Holy Spirit aligned with our soul’s plan
The kundalini rose from root to crown
This happenstance required no middleman
All we can say is God didn’t let us down

Wisdom of the sages then became ours
Polarities balanced, bliss was imbibed
Our meditation stretched into long hours
Symbol of Om was on our heart inscribed

As we evolved, our karma was dissolved
With thoughts mostly rested, ego too died
Conflicts of the past, were by love resolved
We transcended isms, which to us had lied

This dream we call life, flowed on by itself
In time we beheld light of our true Self

In time we beheld light of our true Self
Formless presence, standing outside space-time
Poised in peace, no agenda on our shelf
No mountains remained we needed to climb

Enjoying full freedom and self-aware
Our Self was immersed in the heart of God
We grew in love no sooner we did pair
Seeing this in slow motion left us awed

As God’s child, our soul’s journey yet goes on
God’s desire is that we should be as He
Living in the now, with each breath reborn
That God dwells in all hearts, we clearly see

Entwined with rapture of bliss beat’s delight
Made in God’s image, we are living light

Bad At Being Bad

In Birmingham I tried a scam,
involving some velvet and ham.
It appears I am damned.
Wound up in the slam.

I tried a hustle one night in Brussels.
But all I could rustle,
was just enough muscle,
to muster a bustle.

I tried an old con in Lebanon.
But pistols were drawn.
Had to play the moron.
Said I'd just been a pawn.

Attempted to fool some lads in Liverpool.
Though their first reaction was cool,
they set upon me with tools,
nearly smashed my crown jewels!

I went to Kuwait to impersonate,
a wealthy magnate, a friend of Bill Gates.
But at the customs gate, a guard got irate,
said, "Decide on which hand, I'll now amputate.".

Had a great plan, to sell guns to Iran.
Then a CIA man, with a barbeque tan,
said I'm not a big fan, of your really great plan.
Demanded I name, my middleman,
or take a one-way trip in his long black sedan.

Tried to rob a store in Singapore.
Asked the clerk for more.
Made him mighty sore.
I couldn't move before,
he had me on the floor,
picked me up and tossed me out the door.

Went to Burbank to rob a bank.
I never thought to thank,
that a bank in Burbank,
would have the means to flank,
me with an M1 tank.

Kidnapped an heiress in the heart of Paris.
She never would desist,
with efforts to resist.
She had bats for fists
that hit like Roger Marris.

Soon I found myself in the house of correction.
Lots of time for reflection.
As a crook I was hardly perfection.
But for a crook there was another direction.
I'd run in the next election!

Man was born to make things happen
the universe finally had enough
After expanding and exploding for eons
was time to get answers about some stuff
With no end in sight a resolution was needed
as the fireworks just wouldn’t stop
Space, light, and dust, kept repeating
even gravity sometimes went pop

So what better than human imagination
to put in place a plausible fix
With paradoxes spinning out of control
mans mind was chosen to mastermind tricks
One way or another we find solutions
insane chaos is never allowed
Deus ex machina, fills in blank spaces
and it works, but never say this aloud

So for now the universe is happy
in a man made oblivious state
Leaving us to our own devices
with the burden of explaining it’s fate
Of course stars continue to go nova
and that’s ok we ride along
Passing the buck to a creator
God picks up pieces, when things go wrong

The moral of this story may appear obscene
to make humanity the middleman of sense
But without us who else can ponder
an infinite void, and questions so immense
Oh ye of little faith, I see a God no doubt
perhaps different from the one you praise
Mine is evident through conscious perception
in plain sight, No! just slightly out of phase

Here in our family – our own vocabulary
Skizzors cut fabric – lettucini in our salads;
Flutterbies in the garden – burple for purple;
Empires on first base – the Umpire strikes back;
Alfanso Bedoya – no stickin’ badgers;
Brepfast in the morning – linner for brunch;
Jimmy blue jeans in denim – round John the virgin;
Ba-cops for dinner – don’t tell the lambies;
Grasses for glasses – born in my mother’s ami;
Compartment apartments – what could be truer;
Fork chops for dinner – headlights for bugs!
Seeing my attle – with a little switch cheese;
Two-fers see the dentists – mouse-t… on hot dogs;
Frog thick as fog – a Nole for Noel;
Ergick for Eric – Sam-a-lama for Sam;
In our remembery
An expotiton to Pineapple Lake
To ski in Swoon valley
Or surf on Mt. Rabbits;
Don’t turn on the blinklers cause I hate to get wet;
For my appletite as I tuck my snooba-does in bed
I think I'll grab the last middleman cookie
Then throw out the trash into the Oscar Can;
Now it’s a co-ink-ca-dink we understand
But my confuser – so baffled and slightly annored,
Just can't comprehend my mercy bo-ku
As it red lines each line of this crazy whimsy
And after this verse it needs a "stay-cation!"

Really, these crazy words have been coined, and used, in my family!

Middleman

Sins that I gave
on behalf of a broken heart
I gave them to you
So they would tear you apart

Not intentionally
I didn't intend to fuel this fire
I couldn't care less
I've burned out of my desire

For me, love isn't necessary
it's not a demand
I don't want to fall in
I don't want to understand

The sins I gave to you
on behalf of your broken queen
she feels most alone
when you are so mean

I tried to console
I tried to show her
that with two people
opinions are to differ

She cries to me on the phone
'Why is he doing this to me'
I dare not answer honestly
I just let her cry. I let her be

So I give you these sins
to contemplate and think over
So that you would stop and think
before you claim that you know her

People change
they grow apart
They find different interests
and they break your heart

I cannot do anymore
I cannot be in the middle
I've dealt with this before
and can safely say I'm through

I gave you these sins
and I sent away the broken heart
to let the both of you
break eachother apart

It's not my problem
I don't care anymore
I've been through this
too many times before

Falling Tragedian

Fall, fall, and fall again.
You want me to fall and break my bones.
All while I bleed and play your middleman.
Sticks and stones don't hurt my bones.

Darling, you're just a fool.
You think I'm as weak as before?
One, you're not cool, and two, I'm not a tool!
Who knew your weapons made me stronger?
Only your worst nightmare knew.
My pride will always shield your stab wounds.
This beautiful world of mine is bright, not blue.
I'll never welcome you to it.

I'm not going re-live the past.
Perhaps I was a little girl,
nonetheless, our history has passed.
That little girl has grown up now.
You can't remove that from me!
Haven't you grasped what you've done?
From a fragile princess to a wise queen -
this war has been settled, my old friend.

Fall, fall, and fall again.
I'll continue to fall, but not for you.
It's the way I can rise as a tragedian.
Thank you for the tragedy, it is my art.
