Premium Member Car With No Reverse - 1975 Chevy Monza 4 Speed Manual

I rolled like Caesar down the boulevard the day I came to town.
My triumph was impromptu and abrupt.
I parked my Chevy by the curbside on a gentle downhill slope
In hope there’d be no need for backing up.

From near the Devil’s Crossroads where I’d tempted fate
To the edge of Austin in the Lone Star State.

I walked my hunger to a roadhouse, spied the waitress shooting pool.
She ignored me, so I had to volunteer,
“I’ll have the Humperdinck pastrami with a Chopin polonaise,
And Jesus Christ, I need a goddamn beer!”

I swear her body English, when she broke the rack,
It took my breath away and wouldn’t give it back.

She was a cowgirl from the city with a wide Bonanza spread
And the guns to run the rustlers out of Dodge.
I had an immigrant’s desire just to lay my burden down
And shack up in some low rent motor lodge.

I said, “I’m here on business, babe, but heaven knows,
How your desert blossoms like a gypsy rose!

She played the accidental vixen like a cunning ingénue
And adlibbed her audition for the part.
She said, “The Workman’s Daily Special comes with saucy bedroom eyes.
If you’re picky, you can order ala carte.”

It seemed an outright bargain in a joint like this,
A spaghetti western with a Hitchcock twist.

I said, “I’ll be your Prince of Darkness if you’ll be my guiding light
And lead me down the path of least regret.”
She said her hands were always busy, but her heart was sometimes free,
And humored me by playing hard to get.

I offered Old Persuasion from a bootleg flask.
Heard the waitress answer, “Thought you’d never ask.”

She left her apron on the counter, took her jacket off the hook,
Deposited the tip jar in her purse,
Then we motored off to Splitsville down a narrow one-lane road,
Playing chicken in a car with no reverse.

Hey Old Friend

How do you know me? How can you tell?
How can you read my heart so well?
Did God place his hands over my soul?
I will never forget that connection unfold...
I trembled inside..yet I knew from the start,
You knew me without knowing..you read my heart,
And I wish for one day to have my brother back,
I would weep to explain exactly where I was at,
Words left unspoken...yet you already knew,
The love was very real and my heart spoke the truth,
You stared and stared like I was a mystery to see,
But what you saw was the resemblance you need,
I knew it was much bigger than any words I could say,
We are different from the rest..our eyes see through the pain,
We know the process...we understand the time,
We're willing and patient...we have the same mind,
We question..we search..in love we believe,
Our strength goes beyond what we can see,
It was like looking at my twin...it took my breath away,
You could say all the words I couldn't get out to say,
The same heart..the same mind..the same questions we seek,
The only difference was you took your time away before me,
So now I can tell you who I truly am,
When our eyes met..it was a part of God's plan,
It was love and simplicity...it was never a complex role,
It was about sharing the same loss..the same pain that we know,
It was healing to my heart to hear you speak,
That there was actually someone out there with the same heart as me,
The one who dug deeper to see..the one who truly cares,
Who would go out of his way to search and stare,
Of course it's intimidating to meet the same soul,
To face yourself in the mirror and in healing becoming whole,
I will see you again...I will come back home,
But you won't recognize this heart until you're alone,
All the stories and characters and leading roles...
Are opposite of the kingdom that we call home,
Those stories played out with earthly needs,
Our home goes beyond what our eyes will see..

Premium Member ENTANGLED

Deep in meditation, I waited.
Breathing slow, soft and deep; I waited.
Then exploded on the inner screen
Such an image of the Divine Matrix
It took my breath away.

There sat I, alone, yoga posed and silent
And from my glowing body spanned
A multitude of galaxies, their cosmic webs and strands
Of multiplicitous energies, reaching away and beyond
Connecting with lifeforms unimagined, far-flung and incomprehensible.

Each pulsing thread bearing high voltage messages
And deepening awareness of connections within.
As above, so below.
Entangled.
Suddenly I knew I could generate change,
Be a force for good, love and plenty.

Because my threads of life, awareness, love and God Force
Reached out across the universes. I AM
Entangled.
As I am here, I am there, I am everywhere Present.
The threads of the Matrix weave the web of eternity,
forward and back, all the tomorrows, abundance or lack.

And so, revived, encouraged and super-conscious
I now can use the threads of the Matrix
To create, transform, transmute and rediscover
All the marvelous pieces of my shattered, scattered selves
into the golden threads of the Matrix.
Reborn, Renewed.
Entangled.

Premium Member Childhood Christmas Memories

Every joyful Christmases of distant past
were all very special and memorable.
Except for one unique Christmas unsurpassed.
I recall it was an unforgettable
day, with presents under the lit Christmas tree.

My parents and I gathered at Christmas morn,
I dropped to my knees. I found, I was torn, gee!
So many gifts which to open first. I was torn.

I looked about the room, there against the wall
stood a very large clumsy wrapped Christmas gift.
I asked, "Can I open that one first of all?"

I pushed all the other gifts out of my way
to get to the one large clumsy wrapped ultimate gift.
I unwrapped with quick fingers, the welcoming gift.
I tore at the string and wrapping. Then, ecstatic
screams of joy, tears, and wails it took my breath away.
There was the Schwinn bike I saw in “The Attic”
store window that my heart simply craved and yearned.

My parents looked at me with pride and joy and said,
“Merry Christmas!" My heart gleefully turned.

My eyes were fixed upon the bike with a smile;
it was the most magical moment of any Christmas.

It was a bright red, with shiny chrome fenders,
and tassel hanging down the ends of the handle bars.
I rode all day.
They were all special and memorable memories,
except for one unique Christmas.

Master of Disguise

People go but how
 They leave always stays.
   Call it what it is,
 A parting of ways.

   If you want to test
 My water on a whim.
   Make damn sure,
 You know how to swim.

It didn't kill me but something
 Inside me died that day.
   When she left me,
 It took my breath away.

   I struggle to tell
 The days apart.
   Feels like I'm right
 Back at the start.

   All I loved gone
In the blink of an eye.
   I guess she had to
 Spread her wings and fly.

   I ride the proverbial
 Red line.
   I'm in a state of
 Mental decline.

   My temper flares, I'm angry,
 I feel irate.
   Irritated like a bear
 That can't hibernate.

   I sit here and watch
 The airplanes fly.
   I sit here and watch
 The world pass me by.

There was a time I believed
It was me you needed to find.
   I question that, when
 You left me behind.

   As the tears roll
 Down my cheek.
   The pain is so great,
Not a word I can speak.

   My world cold,
 A severe winter storm.
   You were the heat,
 You kept me warm.

   When she ran away
The avalanche began
   I'm cold and my heart
 Is snowed-in.

   I stop the tears,
 Bring them to a halt.
   I admit my part,
 I own my fault.

If you look for it you can
 See it in my eyes.
   I play the part,
 I'm a master of disguise.

Heart and Soul

When we met a chance encounter,
Unplanned fate or destiny?
I thought it was epic, something
Meant to be.

   An unexpected good fortune,
How could I dismiss it?
   I was swept away,
I hate to admit it.

   It took my breath away,
What a surprise.
   What I saw, was each
Other in our eyes.

I was struck by the wonder,
This was something real.
   Now it's become my,
Achille's heel.

   It was so rare and
Deeply intense.
   I never thought our love
Would die and ferment.

   I marveled at the encounter
And the uniqueness.
   You're my poison,
My living weakness.

I knew it would never happen again,
This blessing I stumbled upon.
   I never considered our love,
You would pull the plug-on.

I assumed it was the right place,
The right time.
   I recognized the merging
Of the two, as sublime.

   I remember that spontaneous moment,
When the world stood still.
   Now, the after-taste of a
Dead love's bitter pill.

   It was an experience beyond
My control.
   I loved her with
All my heart and soul.

Yesterday,

I saw a girl
That looked like you.

It took my breath away.

I wanted to say
To her;

What I long to say to you.
I almost said it aloud;

I love you.

A complete stranger.
I just stared at her.

Later,

In a coffee shop,
On campus,

I saw a young girl

That reminded me
So much, of you.

Her hair, her eyes, Brown,
And beautiful.

The way she fingered her pen,

Pressing it thoughtfully
Against her lip,

Eyes raised to one side,
Head resting on one palm,

Hair, cascading like a waterfall;
Shimmering, pooling,

Onto her open book.

I wanted to be that book.
I wanted to be with you.

For a moment,
I was.

I Know It's Been a While

I almost called you several times
I know it's been a while
I had the phone right in my hand
but never got to dial

Something kept distracting me
every time I tried
Babies crying, P.T.A.,
my son needing a ride

Two weeks ago I planned to call
but many things came up
School recitals, soccer games,
we got a brand new pup

It's always nice to talk to you
I know it's been a while
Every time we chat my friend
you always make me smile

I'm sorry when you called last week
I couldn't talk with you
I'm sure my son explained that I
had many things to do

Finally when I got the chance
just the other day
The stranger's voice that spoke to me
it took my breath away

I've always loved to talk with you
I know it's been a while
It's really very easy to
pick up the phone and dial

Oh, how I'd love to talk with you
for you, some time I'd save
But it's too late and here I am
weeping at your grave

Premium Member SEEDS OF HOPE

I’ve been blessed to walk along this country’s beaches, across her mountains
beside her rivers and her streams
to witness first-hand the beauty Mother Nature gifts us…to experience the Creators’ dreams.

Oftentimes wherever I have been…I’ve found myself stopping to say…
“The beauty that I’m seeing…takes my breath away”.

The other day I witnessed a different side of Mother Nature…Her destruction and her pain…
as I walked the streets of my city…after a hurricane.

Flooded houses, boats on top of boats, docks and piers no longer here.
Families who lost everything…left only with their tears.

This hurricane wrecked havoc…not only here…but hundreds of miles away
and seeing the devastation she left behind…well…it took my breath away.

We were lucky our trees only lost a few limbs and for two days we were without power…
but still resting on the picnic table in our back yard…was this plastic tray of flowers.

Seeds Deborah gathered from sunflowers last summer…
she only days ago planted in that little plastic tray…
Seeds the hurricane…with all of Mother Nature’s power…failed to blow away.

And sprouting from that little plastic tray…as if they were enchanted…
little tiny sunflower sprouts…waiting to we planted.

We also saw neighbors and strangers helping one another…
all across this land
Which reminded us…when Mother Nature disappoints us…
Human Nature is there to lend a helping hand.

Yes, the devastation Mother Nature left behind
contains more sorrow than many of us will ever know
but with the help of Human Nature…she also left…some seeds of hope to grow.

And as I watch Mother Nature’s seeds…and Human Nature’s kindness
grow a little more every day…
Not only does it bring a smile to my face…but it takes my breath away.
