I do not know what's in store
I've never felt this way before
There is something in my tummy
Thats making me feel funny
It's rumbling around in me
I'm as scared as scared can be
What is fluttering inside so deep
Is it gonna crawl and creep
Sneaking up with pure emotion
Causing a lot of comotion
I never asked for this at all
Now I am about to fall
In love it was not expected
Nothing was ever detected
It was quietly brewing
Inside, bubbling and stewing
Like a love potion in my belly
Turning me to gooey jelly
Wobbly from head to toe
How was I supposed to know
Love was never in the cards
I fell fast and really hard
Now there's nothing left to say
Except I'm glad you came my way
Graduation Of Two
It is a day to remember,
my son and grandson together,
Graduating with an A-plus,
so tell me what is all the fuss,
Cannot recall a dull moment,
from yearly gifts now bestowment,
Both of you summa cum laude,
G.P.A. four-point-oh lordy,
So come now, uncle and nephew,
we leased a hall for this venue,
Family and friends all gather,
Entertainment, food, gifts, matter,
Your dad and granddad are happy,
nana's countenance is pretty,
Interest, game technology,
twas both in your biology,
Twas in the cards with words on walls,
colleges with their protocols,
Tis best for both to get a house,
here are the keys as I espouse,
Since your parents bought your new cars,
I resolved to buy a just cause,
So here is a toast to you boys,
ere me young men, to books from toys,
Both part of our family tree,
today, a bit proudly it be.

I dearly miss my friends at The Glen
Where we spent eight very happy years
Never realized how happy they were
Each day was filled with good cheer
Friends galore, lots of things to do
It was our choice to join in or not
Help was there, if we ever needed it
The friendships were over the top
The choice to sell up and move away
Was certainly a difficult decision
Financially things got overwhelming
So the logical choice was written
Truly wish we could have stayed forever
But sadly it just wasn't in the cards
I'll always remember all the good times
Saying goodbye was oh so hard!

Five years ago he joyously visited the maternity ward;
now it is the oncology floor.
Kindergarten will not be in the cards this year -
just lots of tears.
She has the same bald head she bore
when he coached his wife through
the Lamaze breathing they both had trained for;
the ponytails she beautifully wore in between
her hospital stays are long forgotten.
Cancer made her a motherless child two years ago;
now it promises to re-unite mother and daughter.
He tries to keep up a brave front –
but fails miserably.
It is hard to believe in the Saints for which hospitals are named
when these are the same buildings in which loved ones
are taken from us far too soon.
Unfortunately, he recognizes many of the nurses who cared for his wife.
“Hello, Daddy”, she smiles weakly as he enters her room;
“I am going to see Mommy soon, aren’t I”, she asks.
The lump in his throat prevents an answer.
“It’s okay, Daddy”, the sick child reassures her grieving father.
He cannot hold back the tears he promised not to show her.
“Now, instead of us missing Mommy, Mommy and I will be missing you.
And you can pray to both of us before going to bed,
like we do now to Mommy.”
“Tell her I still love her,” he manages to say through his tears.
“She knows, Daddy.”
“And …”
“I know, Daddy.”
She closes her eyes.
He has to walk past the Maternity Ward
on his way out of the hospital to the funeral parlor.

She distributes the wands and the cups.
Her client taps a card, choosing it.
The death card comes up.
The client gasps.
She takes her hand and begins to explain.
She has Bambi brown eyes, and a kind soul.
The client settles down, wanting to believe
in her explanation, in the cards, in a happily ever after.
She is not merely a soothsayer and a card reader,
She is a psychologist, a mother, a grandmother, and a crone.
She understands the value of being optimistic
of bringing hope into each tarot reading.
Her clients are loyal, coming back to see her again and again.
She uplifts them, inspiring hope, promising joy.
It is what they get, for it is what they now expect.
Here I sit playing solitaire,
red queen on black king,
sister number one, so special to you,
black queen on red king,
another special gift is sister number two.
Ten of hearts on jack of spades,
the wrong one you find,
after trying so long,
but you loved him just the same.
Queen of diamonds on king of clubs.
No, clubs and diamonds are not compatible.
I change it to queen of hearts,
Your dad deserves the best.
Red two on black three,
red diamond on black club,
Seven on eight, eight on nine,
all of your friends and people you find dear
are hidden in the cards.
I play each one looking for you.
Ahhh, there you are, the ace of hearts.
I lie you gently in place,
your king of hearts just below you
and continue turning the cards,
but there are no more I can play,
lost again.
I look at each one as I put them away
wondering where I fit in.
There I am,
the Joker,
left in the box.

To watch the sun and moon liaison
With eager, wary eyes
I put my special glasses on
And turn to face the skies
Silenced, stilled and blinded
I try, but can’t quite see
For it’s then that I’m reminded
Of childhood’s shadow on me
So very far from there and then
Celestial bodies merge once more
And take me back to where and when
Sol and Luna danced before
To scattered golden crescents
In the ancient oak tree’s shade
Among the jasmine’s essence
Where I wish I could have stayed
When four o’clock was a flower
And ‘52 pickup a truck
To relive that once-golden hour
Was not in the cards or my luck
While yester-me was dazzled
By eclipses at her feet
Currently I’m frazzled
By this heavy August heat
I take my special glasses off
And drop my gaze instead
Eclipses are much better, I scoff
On the ground and in my head.

Destiny it's not in the cards for Me
I can't do what I love
I can't be me
So untrue
Living is choosing
To get up
Or fall down
Failing is part of the growing
Taking a stand
Believing in your self
Letting the world see you
Should not be shame upon
You are so much more
You have so much to offer
Despite your trauma
There is a place for you in this time
You are relevant
You have the power to change
Carry on be that star
Be that light in someone's darkness
Help them carry on because the journey out weighs the reward
Be you 110 percent
And it will deliver all you desire
Have faith in you
For Lana.

Conservatives and Liberals
Make me madder every day
Meet somewhere in the middle
You don't have to have your way
Should have consideration
For the country as a whole
Always sticking to your guns
Won't save your selfish soul
Seems to me you've not a clue
What this country's all about
Makes me want to stomp my feet
Pull my hair and cuss and shout
The way the polls are going
Seems I'm not the only one
To get rid of the establishment
Is how the voting has begun
Get rid of the do-nothings
The ones who won't agree
Hope this move won't take us down
We're just yearning to breathe free
The royalty is falling
They were never meant to be
To replace them with the same kind
Is not in the cards for me
If you're voting this election
And want to end it with a smile
Vote for independent thinkers
Who will cross the party aisle
I realized I never fit in anywhere
Like forcing a round peg into a square hole
Even when I'm with people who are like me
I still stand out
Like I'm standing on a stage surrounded by people
But the spotlight is only on me
Am I made to always be on the outside of the box?
Being on the other side of the looking glass
Every one else's view is intact
But my side of the glass is cracked
I'm wishing to see the same view everyone else sees
But that's not in the cards for me
Is it?
A question mark in a world filled with exclamation points
Running through life waiting to get to that full stop
Period.
Only to run into a bunch of comma's
Run on sentences.
Weird isn't it?
How my mind works
Calling myself a concept instead of human
But am I human?
Do I fit in with other members of society?
Will I ever?
Can I ever belong?
