An example of a rhopalic verse.
Rhopalism: A rhopalic sentence is one in which each successive word is one letter longer than the previous one. In poetry: where each word is one syllable more, or it might increase each line in a stanza by one syllable (per my example), or a metric foot.

IN THE SAME CATEGORY OF CONSTRAINED WRITING
The Rhopalic Couplet, also called Wedge Verse, was first used by Homer in the Iliad (3.182). It is a poetic unit of 2 rhopalic lines where each word progresses adding one more syllable than the preceding word in the line, for example, 1, 2, 3, 4 … syllables. The sequence of the syllable count can be identical in the second line, or it may be reversed. The couplet does not need not rhyme.
_____________________________________________________________

In The Coward, stanzas are broken up along the syllables of the end rhymes: spouse, souse, grouse, blouse; om-i-nous, blas-phe-mous, a-non-y-mous; ne-far-i-ous, ac-ri-mo-ni-ous, du-bi-ous & pu-sil-lan-i-mous.

LEXICON
acrimonious: (adj) (typically of speech or discussion) angry and bitter.
a big girl’s blouse: British idiom, meaning someone is ineffectual or weak; someone failing to show masculine strength of determination
disposition: (n.) inherent characteristics.
grouse: (n.) one who complains constantly.
implicature: (n.)* the action of implying a meaning beyond the literal sense of what is explicitly stated, for example, saying the picture frame is nice and implying I don’t like the picture.
innate: (n.) inborn, natural
nefarious: (adj) (typically of an action or activity) wicked or criminal.
portent: (n.)
1. a sign or warning that a momentous or calamitous event is likely to happen, an omen.
2. (literary) an exceptional or wonderful person or thing. [‘What portent can be greater than a pious notary.’]
pusillanimous: (adj) showing a lack of courage or determination; timid.
souse: (n.) a drunkard.

Premium Member Heavenly Adventure

At conception, the point of his earthly beginning inside his mother's womb, there was a light, the likes of which he had not seen until now at the point of his death. He shared with me that he had lived 85 years on earth until his demise two months ago. As he thought upon the light, he remembered that the light was not as bright as the light at his conception. That is to say, he believes when he really dies, there will be an identical light like the one he saw when he was being conceived.

I was privileged to listen and record his most remarkable story of how he died, went to heaven, and returned to tell his story. His sojourn there was a total of some 60 seconds. But if a thousand years is one day*, we are talking a heavenly timeframe of far more than 60 seconds. A brief estimate and some calculations explain why he tells me that he was in heaven long enough to visit a number of deceased loved ones, friends, and Biblical characters. For example, he met the young boy who provided the bread and fish Jesus used to feed 5,000 people. He had always been overwhelmed with the unselfishness displayed by the young lad and his willingness to be a tool for Christ in the performance of one of the world's greatest miracles. The lad never sought recognition.

He told me about a grandfather from four generations back whose name his family was never able to produce. He had suspected it to be a Bible name because his great grandfather's name was Daniel. He was right because he met him in heaven, and his name was Jeremiah. He was so happy as he told me about the family members he met. There were so many people to meet and so much beauty surrounding the entire scenery. He wanted to stay, but the angel informed him that God simply wanted to give him a taste of his future. For now, it was not his time, because his earthly mission and purpose were not completed.

So now, at 85, he's anticipating that exit light which will be there in all its splendor at his demise, he is content to live until his mission is completed.

Premium Member Beth Got Her Wish

I went to visit her on the morning of Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Her name was still assigned to her room; so I went inside. There were bags on her bed, but no sign of my friend Beth. I questioned a nurse that was attending another patient, and she directed me to the front desk to make further inquiry. It was at that point I was informed that Beth had passed on.

Beth had departed for heaven, and I was four days late. About three years prior, after being informed by her niece of her whereabouts, I began visiting her. She was 95 when she passed away at the nursing home, having been in very poor health. She had deep longings for heaven.

There were many visits, and I was able to dialogue, sing, or read scripture with her. Although we had met some 30 years prior, she never really knew who I was when I came to visit. Her memory was gradually fading. However, when I came to visit, she always had a great smile, as if to say, "I don't really know him, but I'm loving these visits".

There were memorable visits with her, but none expressed her longings greater than her statement about a twin sister who preceded her in death. I observed a picture on the wall of Beth and her identical twin sister. I told Beth that I could distinguish her from her sister, and did so successfully. She then said in a very strong and serious tone that she was upset with her sister for going to heaven and leaving her here.

A memory barrier existed; the aging process and her health issues were breaking her body down; but I felt that the bond of friendship needed to be honored.

Within moments of being informed of Beth's passing, I was reminded of her comment about her sister and the 'longing' that I knew was so deep inside of her. As I turned and walked away, I quietly whispered, "She got her wish". 03232017cj PS

Lost and Found

My name is Daniel. For 70 years--from age 14 to age 84--
I was incomplete, bereft of mother, father, my identical
twin brother Joshua, and all my boyhood friends who were
with me that day in 1944.

Some of the stronger men had strained and struggled
to force apart the bars on the window of the railway cattle
trailer packed to capacity with Jews bound for Auschwitz.
The results of their labor was an aperture large enough
for the egress of very slender people--like Joshua and me.

"Go, my precious ones!" cried my mother.

"Go, and LIVE!" said my father. "GO NOW!"

I grabbed Joshua's hand and pulled urgently. He wrenched loose:
"I--I just can't! I love you. Good-bye."

It was in this manner I escaped terror and death, but--Oh, there
was so much I could never escape. Each day since then, I have
seen their faces--those anguished,tear-stained faces, especially
Joshua's. Soon they were all dead; they had to be, didn't they?

I grew up, married, worked hard at a fulfilling career, raised three
fine children with my wife, and played joyously with children and
grandchildren--but still was incomplete.

On mild spring day, the greatest void in my life was filled when a
stranger approached me at the park and said, "Daniel (he knew my
name), a very important person is waiting for you a few yards ahead
on the next bench." Then he just walked away.

Sitting on that bench was the near-mirror-image of myself. He stood
and smiled broadly. He had my eyes, my build, my crooked smile,
my snow-white shock of hair. Then he said it--he said "Daniel"--
like no one else who has ever existed could say my name! It was
then I noticed we were dressed alike--same style, same colors!

He told me of our parents' deaths from starvation, of his escape from
Auschwitz, of the life he had lived, of his seventy-year search for me.
My heart broke, and I begged his forgiveness for presuming that he
was dead--that they had all died at Auschwitz. Then he spoke the words
that dried my tears: "I've nothing for which to forgive you! You must now
forgive yourSELF and be whole."

We are inseparable.

Hundreds of people escaped in route to Nazi concentration camps and from those camps.

Redundant Again

Redundant Again

By Elton Camp

There’s an expression hard to beat
It’s a reference to “hamburger meat”

Here’s another that’s too often seen
Come and use our “ATM machine”

In a storm, folks always “hunker down”
But to “hunker up” is not ever found

An “advance reservation” is quite wise
You can’t do it afterward with many tries

There’s no sense to “aid and abet,”
Since the same meaning they get

Then consider the name “balsa wood”
Surely “wood” has to be understood

A “brief moment” certainly can’t be long
Otherwise, the very expression is wrong

Why use the two words “cancel out”
When cancel alone shows what’s about

Contemplate the words “cash money”
Doesn’t it actually sound rather funny

In “closed fist” I really have to insist
That “closed” is essential if it’s a fist

Ingredients you have to “combine together”
You can’t combine apart even if you rather

“Completely filled” uses two words when it’s true
When “filled” alone would be all we need do

We “confer together” because there’s no art
That will somehow allow us to confer apart

We “could possibly” carry out the plan
Gives nothing new that we can understand

The “current incumbent” is the one in now
An “incumbent” has to be current anyhow

How could it be that we say “exact same”
When identical is what the two words name

We ordinarily will speak of a “face mask”
Where else could a “mask” go I have to ask

So if I trip then I have to “fall down”
If I fall up, then gravity isn’t around

A plane, we say, will “fly through the air”
Could it fly through the water over there?

Enter a “PIN number” when using a debit card
That “PIN” already says number can’t be too hard

A fly is crawling on the “nape of her neck”
Where else is a “nape” located by heck?

Then there’s the expression “overused cliché”
Could a “cliché” possibly be any other way?

A “pair of twins” surely does imply there are two
Any other number with “twins” just wouldn’t do

And now think about the words, “sole of the foot”
Where else is it that a “sole” could possibly be put?

Another example of redundancy is “tuna fish”
“Tuna” can’t be anything else even if we wish

In our writing, unneeded words we should eliminate
Lest our postings others should actually come to hate

A Brother's Thanks

9/7/15/9:50:37:A.M. Re-write- 4/5/16-4:21:18 A.M
Why do we write in this strange way
Just to express what we must say?
                                                      A curse,a gift
                                                    It's all the same
Like Shakespeare said''What's in a name''
                                               I speak I love I laugh I live
Though all is so simply fake
The world isn't the same without all of ya'll
                                           A feeling I can't seem too shake
I wake this day with air in my lungs and I could see
Even still I complain what more is there to be?
The looks I get now aren't of envy nor lust just sadness;pity
The irony is they would be blessed to be one of us
With my brother we can stand tall, leaning on each other so neither may fall
Without him I dare not think, writing this makes me crave a drink
No words may say how I think of thee
Without you there is no me
Like his shadow once was I
Racing here and skating there, copying mannerisms
Silly games like truth or dare. Sharing girls not knowing the other had
To women,I guess brothers were the fad.
Not to boast for neither not pleased at all but yet in still -It was fun and we had our fill
Not of lust but friends for life, who would have thought
Finally something money need not bought.
Thank you Father for leaving him with me and I with him
as many as you taken from us many think the light would be dim.
Not in our blood just not our way,not identical but closer each and every day.

Lets Move Forward

A rocky road we’ve through I know
But Hostility, is not how to solve it though
Things will never work out if we don’t love one another
Because here in this country, we are sister and brother

We outline our government sadly on the past
Which may be the reason we are starting to crash
Listening to the tone, that’s planted all in your ear
Enraging you with hate, racism, and fear

Though the civil rights laws have been passed and enforced
The unity of the union is still in tragic divorce
Maybe it’s all because we tend to be afraid of change, a coward
Making our homeland , the land not of the free, but of the sour

We all tend to, hate others because they are not like you
A human instinct, I don’t deny it’s truth
But sometimes inside ourselves we have to set that aside
And look at the new way in the light of our eyes

Ours eyes will not deceive us, that’s a promise I will keep
I promise you also, that I’m tired of seeing this land weep
Its been wrapped into a package, whose seal will just not break
Change in America, seems to be to much for us to take
Explain to me, what is race anyway, is it allowed to be defined
Is caring for any other race still considered to be a crime
A crime made up by all of us its so, not just by the white citizens
Oh yes, there’s just as much ignorance in Hispanic, Asian, native, and Afro men.

See, what you are failing to recognize is that this is the melting pot
Been around for two hundred years, and this caldrons still hot
The fire seems to just have started and it continues on
Serving up a new kind of man, and new type of Adam’s son

See if race is true, then American is a race alone
Because in its fine fabrics, to many races are sown
That’s why when I look, at an American like me
I see an identical person, an identical race to see

Colors, oh colors, you ask why they are so
It’s just the pigment in your skin that anyone can get you know
We all make beautiful children together, and their smiles tend to be white
Can’t you see that in this day and time, it’s time we truly unite

Say goodbye to the past, whip it all away, and focus on the future time
Where America well not fall , but climb
Out of this terrible, dreadful Abyss of horror
Get your transportation, because we are moving forward.

I don't have much luck with women
Although I've had a few
It's not always a pick and choose
More of ''He looks doisy he'll do''.
They have been as skinny as a lat
Or like the cat who got the cream fat

Big ones tall ones short ones
Redheads blondes and brunettes
Paris London New York Dubi
I'd rather forget
Sometimes I shake my head and wonder why

Some have smelled like a flower
Others smelled just like a hog
I had to put a peg on my nose
And tell them to have a wash bath or shower

Some have been stir crazy
And nag or say nothing at all
Sometimes they tied me to a bed
Or pinned me to the wall
Have been hardworking or lazy.

Some have had false teeth or real
Some like to kiss
Or don't and riddle just like a fish
Some have had that much plastic
They'd melt in the sun
Some know how to make me feel
Others took my money
And are somewhere out here
On the run

Some have tried and others have died
Hit me with a cooking pot or not
Hurt me or healed me
They have stood by me
Or stood on the other side

They say one is born every minute
And I'm the fool
Some have made me laugh till I cried
I came last in a race
Some were great cooks or pretended to be
And the pan had nothing it

Some have been rich
And others poor
Public enemy number one
Been convicted
Or the cops keep knocking at the door

Some were ill others well
Were identical twins
You couldn't tell apart
Some were a nightmare others a dream
Took me to heaven or took me to hell

You could say I'm wiser now
And I learned my lessons
But that's not true at all
I can only blame myself
I'm a pig and they were a cow

But whatever I have to say
I treated and respected them well
Made them feel like a Queen
Been married a few times
But got divorced the very next day

Women are special in their own ways
And need to be appreciated for who they are
And the things they do we all have our own faults
It's a game of give not take forgiveness
It can be hard sometimes you have either stormy or sunny days

We can't live without them or mankind will go extinct
Only animals birds and insects and creation
Would only be things that would exist
Just remember we should all be linked
Men wear blue and women wear pink.
