Way Down South
Poet: Ken Jordan
Poem: Way Down South
Edited by: Sparkle Jordan
written: June/2014

Growing up
way
down south
in
Florida -

was like
a
fiesta -

We would
go to
the
beach,

swim, run,
and
play

in
the white
sand -

and
soon as
we
get home,

It was
time
to raid

the
sugarcane
farm -

Life
was sweet,

in
the
Sunshine
State -

Each day
was
better than
the
day before...

Dragonslaying 101 For Carol Brown's "story Time" Contest
Why are you here? To learn, of course!
This is THE ultimate resource!
This is the Dragonslaying class.
You must work hard or you won't pass.

Dragon's are quite hard to slay
They're challenging in every way.
Not all your armour...

A pregnant lass with eyes of glass had never learned to cope;
once set adrift her fall was swift, she slid a slipp’ry slope.
She fled the curse of worlds perverse by shooting shots of dope,

Blood Lust
One stands utterly still
in darkness only lit
by a full moon obscured by
eerie clouds, drifting
slowly across the moon’s path.
Nothing moves, not even a
gentle breeze exists in
this place that has been
painted black.
Sound does not enter...

With All My Being
Before the Frost,
the world was ours for the taking
Love embraced us,
and we dared dreaming Greater
than any form could hold.
Foolishly, it may seem,
for the ice tide had yet to flood the...

She’s a pretty little cottage with a pretty picket fence
She snuggles in the forest where the trees grow tall and dense
A gravelled path runs by her so the mailman can deliver
But nothing gets delivered now,...

Benches By a Gravelled Road
I tread lightly on this gravelled road
And on the horizon I see
Lights, skylines to die for
Tantalized by beauty false
For distance rests between the door
And me.

And friends and brothers, enemies alike.
Pass me by,...

Wash Away
I scrub and scrub,
trying to erase stains gravelled upon my face.

Age has defined its mark,
solidified a presence in folds and furrows
raked over a once-smooth fabric now heralding me as old.

These seams line my skin,
years claimed...

The Hospital Asile
The Hospital Asile

Like the highway as long it goes
Like the lover's longing
Like the winter's silence
Like prisoned midnight and falling dawn
Like the voyages made by Christopher

Tube lights and window panes,
Sang the lullaby.
The...

Whiskey and Philosophy
One tall and gaunt with hooded eyes
The other bearded, bent, time-worn and wise
They relished unfurling their intellectual sails
To seek secrets of wisdom on ancient gales

Two wizened old philosophers in a huddled conspiracy
They picked through the...

Mother nature cannot quite replicate
The way Your mind perceives the universe,
The beauty's in Your eyes that shapes Your fate -
Precious, though far from perfect, and all Yours.

Well gravelled path, paved smooth,...

Just listen to the dust beneath your feet;
Its gentle voice whispers through the spring grass
Even its warming breath makes you feel complete
But its chill touch, still a sad remembrance…

Do you know where you have...
