When old vets gather at a pub to reminisce with their peers,
And their tongues are mellowed with a few free-flowing beers,
Raucous war stories and much back slapping are apt to befall,
As unique people, places and events they tend to recall!
Supercilious officers and their puffery is a subject of disdain,
As are first sergeants and drill sergeants, who were their bane!
A first sergeant tried to defend himself, but he didn't win,
And was ordered to buy another round of beers, much to his chagrin!
A marine proclaimed that the war would've been lost without Marines!
A sailor declared the bravest guys cruised in submarines!
This brought a howl from all the ground-pounding grunts,
Who with one accord asserted they'd not tolerate such affronts!
An air corps guy said it was the flyboys that saved the day!
This elicited a retort from a coastguard vet who had his say!
A quartermaster said it was he who supplied C-rations and boots,
Showering upon his head a chorus of jeers, hollers and hoots!
As time went on, they discussed the serious side of strife,
The horror of war and dear comrades who had forfeited life.
The final consensus was they'd won the war altogether.
These are the things that vets talk about when they get together!

Humans not meant to dwell in caves
Drowned out,
No inherited inhabitants
Mother black bear's in rage
suckling on the land of mass construction
Dry and toxic is it's tit
Oh no more!
No natural function
Seduced seducing men mock
Abyssal in spirit!
Is this the choice of your decision?
Idly dragging you down
Can you hear it?
Tick tock!
To you, I give this vision
Stanza 2
Humans not meant to dwell in caves
Drowned out,
No inherited inhabitants
Mother black bear's in rage
While dancing with the devil
Did he place your feet upon the truth?
Did he tell you..
'Dance!' 'advance!'
To this evolution, my envious booth!
Hanging on the doors , the walls, no sanity to crave
Cleaned out,
beheaded!
Mother black bear died in vain
Stanza 3
Humans not meant to dwell in caves
Drowned out,
No inherited inhabitants
Mother black bear's spirit of rage!
They claim we came from monkeys
Starting of dwelling in caves!
Satan twisted the truth
But it seems you'll die this way!
Humans not meant to dwell in caves
I'll burn you out!
Inherit the Inheritance of truth
The mother black bear of flames!
As a Native American symbol, the bear is as free in spirit as the great wind; and grander than its mass. To match that magnitude is the quality of unpredictability in the bear. A massive animal who forages seemingly peacefully in the woods on berries and bush. when provoked in certain ways, the First Peoples witnessed a ferocity expressed from the bear that (understandably) could elicited terror.
Because of this potentially furious storm brewing just under the surface of bears spirit, our native forebears were extremely cautious and respectful of this animal. Even tribes inclined to peace honored the spirit of a warrior, and witnessing the bear seemed to embody that kind of blind, powerful surge of courage and strength that every warrior is want to tap into.
Bear meanings were enhanced by observations made tribal sages. These vital tribal figures were inclined to pensive and deeper understanding of how nature communicated intent in all her forms. These sages found connections between human and beast and from these associations would interpret profound meanings that propelled the community into direction, action, and wisdom.
A hardened and disciplined man drove to the grocery store lost in thought,
with setting of sun, the long day's work almost found it's end.
Hoisting his daughter to shoulder, he walked from the parking lot,
and barely noticed her hair smelled of shampoo and pool chlorine blend.
He searched for fresh loaf of bread, and pound of peaches,
careful to tally up each purchase with well-honed skill.
With family's dinner waiting, and worn wallet short on wages,
thinking, that tank of gas will have to wait, and hoped it will.
Looking up from the myriad of baby food jars in the next aisle,
slowly he became aware, as a dense fog clears on a whim.
Now noticed a woman with mouth played in a strange smile,
her instinctive gaze fixed on something behind him.
He turned to see what elicited her quizzical beam,
and his heart melted at the sight in the shopping cart.
A straw haired helper, fast asleep, slumped over in a girl's charmed dream,
her little head now resting against his arm.
The day's worries quickly fled, tough exterior, now stripped senseless,
life's hard lesson and true measure of a man's love now shown.
Left wondering how a resting child could leave one so defenseless,
and that, which a man holds important..,could be so wrong.
Epilogue
I live the rest of my days wiser and more carefree.
For my darling little one, it wasn't I that carried you,
but you that carried me.

Santa learned about a year ago that the North Pole was thawing slow,
And in the not too distant future, he may be adrift on a perilous floe!
That was disturbing, but another situation has elicited little cheer.
(As if the jolly old gent didn't have enough to worry about this time of year!)
His toy making operation has slowed and there's little work for the elves,
Resulting in massive lay-offs and, sadly, a lot of bare and empty shelves!
Many of his little sprites collect unemployment due to the lack of work,
And Mrs. Clause nags him about getting decent work, driving him berserk!
Things deteriorated to such a degree that he asked Obama for largesse,
And of course he replied, "Sure! I'll tax the rich to cover your distress!"
This unfortunate dilemma has caused Santa a serious bout of angina,
Since nowadays, most of Santa's goodies are being "MADE IN CHINA!"

Way back before this baby boomer waz astute
countless decades before aye became long in the tooth,
and also prior tomb ma sporting dentures to boot
fond memories rush more than so far back
envisioning illusory wind blown steppes
(wait...this visage belongs to thine
long since deceased maternal grandfather
hub hill eave didst hail from Kiev,
or some place thereabouts) within the mind
of this prevaricating aging
"FAKE" barnstorming ole coot
preserved records (those times b'fore cds or dvds)
and now rewinds tape when family of origin
celebrated Xmas secular Harris
house style rendition of Magic Flute,
though genealogy steeped in Judaism
recollections abound of boyhood mirth
devoid of rubric asper orthodox and/or reformed
Judeo-Christian religion,
which essentially means,
I did not give or take a hoot
nonetheless cherish fond memories,
when ma late mum
relished making a hoo ha,
and got tickled and pickled pink
rousing a hullabaloo wrapping presents
and jamming three knee high stockings
with healthy goodies such as fruit
cuz, as a devotee of Carleton Fredericks,
she frowned on giving out sweets
particularly to three children she begat,
and iced hill easily recall her poker faced
feigning complete ignorance and surprise
sheep played “dumb” as did father
convincingly not giving a hoot
puzzled asper neatly wrapped and
stacked gifts under decorated tree
while distorted reflections of stockings
fractal shimmers from metallic gewgaws
in tandem of nostalgic magic
worth mo' than any amount of loot,
perhaps Christmas festivities a flash point,
when some jolly codger (papa)
dressed up, sans Santa Claus suit
and petsmart dogs doubled up as reindeer,
whose canine barking, cavorting, and dashing
haphazardly set them on a direct route
to pandemonium as crashing trimmed tree
cacophony elicited laughter, punctuated
with irrepressible escaped bursts of flatulence
(ah wont mention hoof from)
that emulated a toot.
We saw some hieroglyphics
And some beaded Native art,
Some instruments of music
With their coolness off the chart;
The Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit
And some armor from the past,
All admired and enjoyed although
We zipped through kind of fast.
The only place we lingered was
Where varied rooms were staged
Showing how the wealthy lived,
Our grandson totally engaged.
The lighting dim, the papered walls,
The opulent décor
Elicited reactions
We had not quite seen before.
Such lavish furnishings, unlike
The homes that I have known
Make me wonder how he’ll decorate
A home when it’s his own.
The wizened hunter had but one cartridge
remaining this was no trifle matter.
For he’d been attacked by a hungry horde
of rats when he took shelter in this cave.
And now a mordacious wind was morphing
into a severe storm and he was scared.
Yet he had to layover until dawn
for the blizzard’s wrath had imprisoned him.
The mere thought of his starving family
elicited nightmares and pangs of guilt.
For he felt shackled to this loathsome cave
unable to hunt and provide them food.
Setting the horizon afire Sol rose
as dawn's first light pierced the black of night.
And with one shot starvation was diverted
for a buck stood dead center in his sights.
The house on the hill beckoned me
its lawn a page from Ripley’s Believe-it-or-not
One-half manicured like a five-star golf course
the other half a wasteland teeming with weeds and rot
Against my will, my feet led me up to its nearest edge
breathing in the nectar of monarchs on the wing above sludge…
The human skeleton standing in the doorway elicited my scream
his blood-stained orbs flashing a murderous gleam…
He buried me in an open-air grave
these words emblazoned on my headstone
~ Here lies my ‘White Slave’
We've all seen and heard of amazing feats over the years,
That have elicited our respect, applause and raucous cheers!
Brave souls have scaled Mount Everest, others are skilled at skeets,
While others gracefully excelled with their amazing feets!
Gauche is he who doesn't applaud the ballerina in lacy tutu,
As she gracefully leaps and twirls on heel and toe with little ado!
Or thrill as the fleet running back keeps balance on his feets,
Deftly evading a three-hundred pound tackle and his deadly cleats!
Gene Kelly's dancing in "Singing In The Rain" is etched in our minds,
So nimble on his feets, performing graceful gyrations of all kinds!
Fabulous is the man in "top hat, white tie and tails", Fred Astaire,
As he and Ginger Rogers dazzled us with their eloquent flair!
"Bojangles" Robinson "tapped" his way across the American stage.
He set the standard for tap dancing in its Golden Age!
The amazing feets of "Bo" and Shirley Temple in "The Little Colonel!"
That classic film is yet shown today and will remain eternal!
The delight in watching the flying feets of Marge and Gower,
Would bring a smile upon the face of even the most dour!
There is no dearth of dancers, tight wire walkers and athletes,
Whose amazing feats have thrilled us with their amazing feets!
