Temerity, the crux of the Human Way -
We dominate what we can,
Deride the rest -
But the heart speaks in terms the tongue cannot frame,
Suggesting the worst is a part of our best
The ashen taste behind the use of insignificant powers
Tempers our pride in the midst of triumphant hours.

Beneath the greening of the summerwarmed Earth
Corruption proceeds in its slow work
Feeding the living on the fruits of its breakage
Of the form and substance of the dead.

The cold rain slanting down from leaden clouds
Softens and enlivens roots deep in the loam,
The desiccated pulp of yesterday's life
Many voices speak
In the pattering tears of the sky:
Many voices, not understood by the educated mind,
Not grasped by refined understandings:
Heard, interpreted in the dark chambers
At the center of the soul,
Where the meanings of things old as this world
Quietly abide,
Resting in the silent center -
The fertile graveyard of our primal thoughts.

The rain calls to us through its wall of grey
Addressing our Pride
Mixing truths forgotten with truths regained

The rain speaks, saying, among other things -
What are the monuments of Men
The works of their timid day?
The mountains that this Earth brought forth
In fevered fury, long ages ago
Have long outlasted the whole of your race.
These are Her monuments, and yet
For all their strength and glory,
     I -
     The humble soft rain,
     I -
     Have washed away whole chains of them;
     For I persist,
     Returning and returning,
     Ages but moments to me.

We can watch our glories dissolve
Stone upon stone, great edifices rise
To crumble and fall again
Forgotten and fractured, always being replaced
By other stones upon stones
Which will decay in their due turn.

Impermanence is the standard
Of human affairs
The common complaint in which everyone shares
Consider with me those things that do last,
Thoughts and emotions which fade not with the past.

The Heartless Tory

The Tory an heartless beast no morals.
They harm those that need help most, regardless
Their retarded approach harms less able
their mission to hit the poor the hardest.

Private educated school boys clueless
to those whose lives are spent broke, penniless.
Societys have's, harming the have nots
no fair society just dog eat dog .

Schools with unqualified teachers, how foolish
Doctors surgeries full of sick patients
Disabled blameless discrimination
the homeless punished for being homeless.

Don't be a self serving clueless Tory.
think of others have some humanity.

TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT

TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT

I may be thought aloof and cold
Maybe even more so, as I’m old
Not dull lead, nor yet shiny gold
Perhaps a weird sense of humour
Yet all along, it may be a tumour
If unsure, I will never just leave it

I’m well educated, that’s for sure
On this, never challenged before
Perhaps I was ever seeking more
But knowledge, it’s not all by far
Self confidence, not being a star
I aimed high and I did achieve it

I feel love, some may say muted
But to superficial I am less suited
As in depths, my mind is rooted
Yet I will still look for inspiration
As life offers so little explanation
Me, lovable, I’d hardly believe it

Premium Member Surgeon of Truth

Truth is an elusive beast.
Veiled by the cloak of deceit.
Truth is a laser light.
Only found by those who seek.
Truth can cut one to the quick,
When square in the face it hits.
Truth a precision scalpel,
Surgeon tool that does the trick.
Severs bonds of hypocrisy.
Removes the blinders of hate.
Truth never arrives uninvited,
Thus, dull darkness of deception,
Eases into every ideology.
Feasting in minds of educated arrogant.
Flowing out from intellectual ignorant.
Excreting greed, graft, hate, and hypocrisy.
Truth never resides in the middle.
For it is always right of left,
Occasionally appears left of right.
Truth by its nature must choose sides.
For when it comes to wrong or right,
Truth in the middle cannot abide.
Light of truth the great surgeon.
Seek the surgeon he will set you free.

I lived a true Romeo and Juliet experience,
meeting my love at the art gallery one winter day.
I loved art and writing poetry,
             he liked to draw pictures.
      My family was considered poor,
he was educated, rich, a traveler of the world.
My life was mindless with no future until I met him.
One evening he took me to a movie,
and that movie is forever meaningful to me.
The next day he gave me a blue heart-shaped pendant.
My very own heart of the sea,
I still wear it as a memory.

He believed in making each day count,
oh, our first kiss- he whispered, trust me.
I felt like I was flying,
and he said, I will never let go.
Then one winter day he crashed his car through ice,
a thousand knife's stab my heart forever and ever.
If he could talk to me,
in that dying breath- he would say,
promise me, you will never give up, no matter what.
I call his name a thousand times in dreams,
and our love will go on and on and on.

Have I Been Too Long At the Fair

Have I been too long at the fair?
by Michael R. Burch

Have I been too long at the fair?
The summer has faded,
the leaves have turned brown;
the Ferris wheel teeters . . .
not up, yet not down.
Have I been too long at the fair?

This is one of my earliest poems, written around age 15 when my family was living with my grandfather in his house on Chilton Street, within walking distance of the Nashville fairgrounds. I remember walking to the fairgrounds, stopping at a Dairy Queen along the way, and swimming at a public pool. I believe the Ferris wheel only operated during the state fair, so my “educated guess” is that this poem was written during the 1973 state fair, or shortly thereafter. I remember watching people hanging suspended in mid-air, waiting for carnies to deposit them safely on terra firma again, neither all the way up nor all the way down. PEN STROKE

I sat in your office
Feeling you as one I could trust
Vulnerable need, open
You, doing what you must

I thought you saw me
Equal and educated
But no...I...another patient
A person, heavily medicated

With a stroke of your pen
You wrote away my value
Hallucinations, depression
Convicted, on the way to the gallows

What have you to do with me
How dare you see HIS hand
How can your dim eyes see
Your hardened heart, understand

I am not in need of your care
I finally accept your view
Your experience of me
Is nothing new

...crazy, worthless...but anointed...what else can I do

Premium Member To Free the World

I heard today
a corporate goal
"To free the world of cancer."

What I heard, instead,
"To free the Earth of human toxic nature."

Often rooted
in feelings of not belonging,
not being good enough,
not even fitting in sufficiently,
too toxic,
unbenign,
too loudly aggressive
and/or quietly sinister
to be known and appreciated as I am,
as we are
and can deeply learn to love.

Feeling unappreciated
and excluded
can easily confuse discrimination felt effect
with explicit intent to discriminate against
one-self

Can confuse left-hemisphere deductive cultural privilege
with Straight
White
Male
middle-class through filthy rich
Militaristic-Capitalistic-Fundamentalist Supremacy.

I worry
our left-hemispheres invest too much
in from-above theologically-driven
retributive justice for sins of our Fathers
and anthropocentric analysis

Before noticing possibilities
for win/win economic/ecologic prime relationship
co-passionate empowering bilateral feelings
responsible ego/eco wants
ecofeminist needs,
longings to win by others losing their patriarchal sense of belonging,
longings to win with EarthBound Others winning,
longings to not lose too awfully much more
while over-privileged
over-fed
over-watered left hemispheres

And emotively under-educated
right hemispheres continue to lose hope of safety,
to lose faith in economic/ecological co-investment
through resilient/resonant cooperative thoughts
and feelings and actions,
non-violent communications and co-educations
featuring GoldenRule energy democracy
listening before performing,
acting and reflecting,
regenerating positives and degenerating negatives

Which generally involves
a great deal more curiosity-driven listening
for win/win neglect,

And a lot less brazenly proclaimed shaming
and blaming
for past win/lose abuse,
like a cancer
rabid and viral Yang
overpopulating living Earth
while not worshiping Her

Right hemisphere
sacred flow of yin-time
dipolar co-arising
ecologically co-relational
health-resonant
warm-latticed womb
of energy democracy motions
more win/win empowering
benign
organic peace,
ease supplanting disease.

Premium Member A School Defined Education

A free education for all people in our nation,
This is the country I want and need.
Creating future adults who can think and resource,
And adults who can forge and lead.
All children educated to the best of their ability,
Improving their ability to build.
Every child given the same chance to be creative,
Professional, savvy and skilled.

If everyone in the country waxes equality,
For growth and maturity to learn.
Then industry will thrive with fresh, robust ideas,
Our flame will vigorously burn.
Steadily burning from people wanting to grow,
Not from adults, spoon fed as they grew.
The spoon leads to entitled self-import,
Rather than an efficient business minded world view

The writing's on the wall,
A thorough free education for all.
