Age hasn’t softened me
Weakened me a bit, perhaps
I speak of a truth I’ve earned
Cherish the right to speak it
Often to the trees and stars
Sometimes cursing those in cars

I ponder often the mystery of
Whose truth is truer
Can all truth’s be true
Or must one concede
Tap-0ut in accepted defeat

My mother told us
“the truth only hurts when it’s supposed to.”
A mentor told me
“the truth is true and all is well
Unconquerable life prevails”
A less reliable figure told me
“kid, there’s a bit of a lie in every truth”
A cynic once shouted
“if a lie of the blackest will save ya
Then lie while ya have the breath in ya”

Therefore
I lie in the truth
Telling artfully truthful lies
Teasing forth from the unaware
The truth of their lies
And what lies in their truths

Premium Member My Cynical Valentine

The ‘price of love’ rises just for one day of the year
Stick a cardboard heart on some merchandise - the price quadruples!

Every February we see ‘love’ lying in neat rows on the shop shelves
Cards, chocolates, flowers, perfume and cute fluffy toys
A sea of red roses that stretches as far as the eye can see
For some reason these roses are never Buy One Get One Free!!!!
The prices they charge rise quicker than a red heart shaped helium balloon
Yet on 15th February everything will be half price

Is this the price of true love or am I just a cynic?

I’ve never had a Valentine from my husband, or him from me
We don’t need to prove our love on just one day of the year

Premium Member What Happens When It Happens

What happens when it happens
do you throw a fit
get so angry you can't spit
burst inside till you split
scream and curse like a dimwit
hurt anyone you deem not legit
crawl into a bottomless pit
burn your brains to forget
be an ugly and unkind nitwit
hate and foam at the bit
destroy and damage to object
ramp and rave on the net
your view forcefully interject
truth and reason reject
scorn and mock for kicks
law and order wreck
hide and cry in panic
embrace extreme fanatics
afraid to listen to critic
fake is real  cynic
worry yourself sick
go down on your personal Titanic
What happens when it happens
Be an adult and face it

He Murdered My Reflection

I promise — that ain't me
I'm not the guy in the mirror
The guy is so beardy
Cheeky faced
With a big thick lips
That isn't me

Remember when I smile
It's a crooked one
One side of my lip
Seems to go up
While the other just hits the ground
Like a heavyweight... Hahaha

Now, this guy in the mirror
He smoulders instead
He doesn't even smile
Well, he might but only when he's mischievous
When he wants to hate on me
Especially in the morning before breakfast

This is overboard but
That guy in the mirror murdered my reflection
I could see it in his eyes
But I just can't prove it
Look!
He just winked!

My reflection was the opposite of him
It's got my every detail
It smiles even in my toughest days
It cheers me even when no one will
It consoles me when I needed one the most
My reflection loves me

Like I said
That ain't me
That's not my reflection
Because I don't believe
That people change —
What's inside just keeps unveiling with time

Now, these days
When I stare at me in the mirror
I don't like what I see
In place of my reflection
All I see is this
An egoistic narcissist with beards

This guy is selfish
Always wanting to make me look bad
It seems like he wants the best for me
But I doubt his intentions
I've never been a cynic before but
I think i'ma be one with this guy

This imposter wrote this in the mirror
That no one deserves my apology
Not even those I love
He told me that
No one steps on my toes
That I won't pump up my fists

This guy told me that
I could do whatever I want
With anyone's Emotions
He said to me
All that i'ma take care of
Is just gonna be me

At first it seemed to make sense
I kinda agreed
Because his words are convincing
It seemed like one of them inspirational quotes
And I really wanna key in
He seemed wiser than I was

But when I realized
That I've lost so much
To please this guy in the mirror
And I miss my shy reflection
I decided to write this
So y'all could read

Right now, I'm about to sleep
And if y'all wake in the morning
And see some changes in me
That guy in the mirror
Switched our spots—
I'll be in the mirror

Please come find me there
And charge that dude
With a first degree murder
Because he killed someone
He murdered my reflection
That guy in the mirror...

The Best beer

Which beers my dears bring you to tears

Beardy weirdy freaks hipster peaks & nadirs

Slatted bar with glam flutes or bizarre jam jar

Cheers to toots & hoots hirsute tatted peers

Sham craze for cloudy ales or clear yesteryear pales

Old school IPA mule or cool daze ways holds sway

Some fools viral spools spiral amaze as they drool

Not a phase always had haze it's the cardinal rule

Or a silly quip & blip has a nip of a chilli dip in it

Knows zip flip let rip Indian trip phrase you twit

Gawking and balking because they're talking s**t

All about malty pout haughty clout of a naughty stout

Cooed am a lamb to the slaughter for rip snorter porter

Wooed by stock of stellar Bock or cellar brewed Keller

Wheat poo pooed too funkily sweet for this crude fella

Rude taking the mick trick to pick a drop in perfect nick

Chaps won't cower to the lure of cocktails at happy hour

Ruddy cheeked fuddy duddy who is perhaps too dour

Appears fake dreams it seems of a career as a critic

Slating grating ratings mapped trapped on untappd

Skeptic fears musty skunk & fusty funk that is lambic

Brett regret bristles don't fret won't let whet my whistle

Sneers debunk the rusty gunk flower glower of sour

Jeers but bet the ripple of Tripel is still the top tipple

For any cynic or pundit in their Merchant Ivory tower

Hail tale of quirky murky or another stale lager saga

Heaven forbid get rid of sweet & sickly treat for a kid

Snooty about the booty of rank dank stank too fruity

For fecks sake must forsake that milkshake mistake

If tasked or someone asked what's my perfect beer?

Not the new frontier..bask in cask ...holy grail of ale

Suggest zest from noble not global hops treasure chest

Attest not treason manifest reason better than the rest

Beer to pleasure every season that stalled then schooled

What is after all the true quest & have you got a clue test

Which is why I contest you go with the one called "Best"

Fake News Horses Mouth

True Story
Yesterday
An old lady told me
Sad isn't it
The news that Peter Kay had died
I was surprised because I had not heard the news
She proceeded to tell me
Her Son worked at the hospital
But it wasn't on the news
Because the family wanted there privacy respected
Fast forward to the next day
And a Google search later
I read Peter Kay dead hoax
Funny that because she claimed to have got the news
From her Son who worked in the hospital he supposedly died
Sums up Fake news and Chinese whispers perfectly
A lie read on social media
Embellished on by a gullible sheep
Without any evidence
Was passed on like gospel truth
And was bought hook line and sinker
Better to be a cynic
Than caught up in it
Make your own mind up
But don't believe everything you hear
Unless it comes from the horses mouth
I don't know about you
But I can't speak horse

Premium Member BIRDMAN OF EASYVILLE

Existence Deconstructed

Able was I ere I saw Elvis.
He was leading a yoga class:
A room full of competitive posers
Engaged in thoughtful reflection
And abstract introspection.
Feeling no need to intercede
I sought entertainment elsewhere.
On the grounds of a gypsy encampment
I gambled my fortune away.
As a native-born Phoenician,
I was unaccustomed to sweet confections,
Yet I fell for a saber tooth dame.
A woman of aboriginal design.
She was a daydream intellectual,
Full of sacred hearts and holy trinities,
Well-versed in the language of words,
With all her explicits on full display.
I was playing with house money
And pockets full of hope shine.
I ended the midwatch a lucky sailor,
Cashed in my chips with a fish monger,
And decided to take in a show.
On the diamond stage in Audienceville,
I watched Orpheus in his underwear
As he parried insults unforgotten.
His expression spoke less than a smile.
It was more a menacing grimace,
Teeth like tempered glass
With a baked-enamel finish.
He humored all the dirty foot commoners,
Muttered a few heartfelt obscenities
And retired to the tomb of the unknown cynic.
Not one to waste a good exit,
I left my lover in the tall grass
With the chiggers and the ticks,
Our feelings for each other having vanished
Like chalk art in a summer rain.
I hopped a Norfolk Southern freight
And rode it through Black Rock tunnel.
Keeping my head low the entire passage.
My glimpse of the future seemed fertile
As a salt marsh in a tidal plain.
It was time to reconsider my options.

Premium Member Distorted Essence

Rhapsody of rainbow morphs to morose mélange
Bleeding colors bleached from the twilight cloud
Rainstorm daubs as blemish on the broken heart
The shades of grey paint the frayed linen of love.

Requiem of roses resonates in melancholic medley
Petals pine for dripping tear drops of mourning dew
Desiccate in somber sunshine in the deserted mind
Fallen flowers make bouquet for deceased passion.

Cacophony capsuled in the cauldron of mute melody
Chaotic symphony dismantles on the discord waves
Strained smiles sneer the scarred scenario of lone life
Songs turn to convoluted noise echoed by the soul.

The lattice of life seen through the languid cynic lens
Magnifies into crooked contortion of distorted essence.

This Cynic Doth Dispel His Own Kant

Alarming heart wrenching
     (stabbing non-abating
with genuine appall
     ling brutality) zing
across screen, or
     in print exacerbating
forcing, imposing viewer,
     and/or reader to revisit

     atavistic primal past activating
21st century *****sapien
     to experience (albeit vicariously)
     quotidian tragic news,
     which relentlessly doth wring
realistic sadness, sans psychic sting
     eventually admitting figurative
     (sic) kill your hammer

     blows deaden public
     emotional trust, thwarting
the ability to feel,
     which subsequent empathy
     decreases to abba
     solute zero sensitivity,
     whereat comfortable numbskull state
     of mind turbo-charges,

     quickens, and nudges
callousness, via onslaught of killings,
     viz where plethora multi
     media platforms air
     (twenty four seven)
(far more horrible, reprehensible,
     unconscionable, et cetera
     egregious violence -

     splashed across front page, which
     grim stories lack shock value,
     and with flying blood red
     colors surpass fictionalized
     made for television macabre
     nuanced crime stories),
     way beyond the outer limits
     of the twilight zone of credulity

     visa vis not even discoverable
     tapping into the unimaginable realm,
     where dirty deeds
     done dirt cheap by
some contemptible person,
     who contemplates (premeditates)
deliberately inflicting
     maximum human suffering

which ignominious atrocity
     (interestingly enough) affects
     a portion of the
     population to wring
hands, while unbeknownst

     non relations (i.e. strangers) fling
arms around each other
     such as yours
     truly reckon eyes,
     the existence power of consolation
despite the lack oven available antidote.

Light streams
Darkness dispersed;
Colours deliberate

~~~~~~~~~
Dawn arrives
Calmly magnificent;
Joy feels vivid
~~~~~~~~~

Morning permutations
Clockwork agenda rolls;
Memory and rote

~~~~~~~~~
Tensile strength barters
Testing argument collides;
Taut tempers flare
~~~~~~~~~

Moments of unease
Words in wrong order;
Conflagration attends

~~~~~~~~~
Late night excursions
Unfinished business;
Graffiti messy enough
~~~~~~~~~

Sit here and wait
Words missing voice;
No output now

~~~~~~~~~
So many things to say
Intuitive feel ventures;
Words weave wise wit
~~~~~~~~~

Uneasy glimpses
Dream within a dream;
Echoes electrocute

~~~~~~~~~
Cynic or skeptic
Wordy paradox;
Not much to say
~~~~~~~~~

Wedding dinner fare
Lovely banquet here;
Sanguine stylish smiles

~~~~~~~~~
