Night Shine

Night falls in showers
of neon, and the blacktops spark electric.
The town takes to its cars
and pulls into fast food joints.
People just sits there
in the lots smoking and razing
or just crying quietly and alone.
Other's gather in backyards to drink;
In the lulls between the talk-talk
they tune-in to the distant scuffle
of criminal minds
getting chased around
by sweating cops in their buzzing blues.
When the summer night seeps into our skin
it sings a thousand sad songs,
a velvety shine heals
lonely hearts and the joyful.
The liquor stores glow bright
long into the sleepless night
because we need them
even when we don’t need them,
but we like the way they
carry folks in and out of their
fitful dreams
like cups of cool water.

Poetic Prognostication Proves Itself Pathetic Pablum Part Deux

Countdown to *****sapiens extinction
predicted millenniums in past
ordained but never occurred December 21
two thousand and twelve after common era
whereby catastrophic spark
detonating inferno incinerating blast
eradicating extant flora and fauna
activating bereft hegira
with no means to interrupt the die
since the dawn of civilization cast,
but last minute reprieve granted.

Impossible mission to escape ominous
predetermined fate of human rat race,
nor turn back hands of time
with origin of species on clock face
thus ticking closer to hour of doomsday
without faith to brace
allowing, enabling and providing Gaia
to redeem terrestrial space
vestiges of teeming billions soon erased
criminal minds without evidence traced
forcefully relinquishing simians
planetary stranglehold amazing grace
proffering tabula rasa
for another dominant species to claim the place.

Sirens promulgate emergency impending
toward inescapable cataclysm
yet no place to run or hide
lest one boards a rocket light-years away
which makes suspense thrillers
birthed by John Grisham
enviable plot to keep
total Earth's destruction at bay.

Matthew Scott Harris, a lifetime America Online

crisis sparking to offer electric nom de plume
a papa who did help sire
deux darling daughters,
now grown into young gals
yet for ages hive stung
with hurt early, whence fatherhood did fire

strangers even fork getting this communication,
per S0S sprinkled with auk shucks corny,

now pleasures soft as gossamer feather bedding
down play hardened angst riddled psyche, where ire

Ronny gully stubbornly thrives
amidst adversity as father time spins gyre
row scope at greased lightning speed,
intimating with dead reckoning to hire
grim reaper, who whiz patient as Job,
and exemplary at ridding mire
and muck bogs down this dada robbing
existence with joie de vivre, where funeral pyre
doth flickr-beckoning GoDaddy, cuz

so haim trying keep sea legs
one step ahead of tipping point

Crimes In Mind

Ideas so many quibbled in my mind
I can't see what's the best, the better or I'm blind?
help me find the solution
my head aches for this question.

Crime novels I love to read
think the way criminal minds did.
Investigate like the CSI works, but
getting away with murder, what's that?

Burried alive under the moonlight
followed by gangster in the middle of the night.
Shouting, crying, panicking
how should I escape, I'm asking.

Hostage by kidnapper, well, if i'm rich
or being hold-up in the streets of witch
all of which could take place
you or I can be killed in such deadly grace.

I found in Kinsey Millhone's mystery
her style of defense in different scenery.
Bravery and courage I learned from Maggie
in the Moonlight Becomes You, she managed to be free.

Victims are many but criminals are out
evidences are weak, they're afraid to speak out.
How to get away from murder
is my question, give me an answer.

Getting away with murder
my concern is just an issue but further
problem may arise, if I die
you, them and many will cry.

With a wallet full of plastic ...

credit cards to shape my social classification
phone cards so I can stay informed
a debit card that always goes in debt
a card declaring my citizenship and identification
a card insuring me good health, long life and liberty
gift cards that help curb my defamation

The more I owe, the more I glow dimly
All caught up in attaining the American Dream
Yet pale and lustered from self-affirmation
That it’s okay to be lost and confused
That it's okay to be me, not alone in
Paying homage to a false god that sucks
Souls and drains my pocketbook into the red
With lots and lots of stuff
I can’t take with me when I’m dead

There was, once upon a time
When “In God We Trust” was the norm
Card sharking, once illegal, considered a scam
Something only criminal minds or the mob would dare
Is now commonplace and no one seems to care
That it’s all consuming, eating us alive
Of all what is left of any dignity
At an alarming high percentage rate
With fake news and empty promissory notes
And the only cost is to conform
To having counterfeit consciousness
As conscientious as confetti

I’m flabbergasted and plasticized.

housed within mine impenetrable hermetically
   sealed invisible bubble
   draped with blackened Hades
   hued habiliment therein dwelt
sinister saboteur mastermind marauder of the Hubble

   river styx with unadulterated gelt
which known phantasmagorical
   donning double dutchmen's britches
whose piercing fiery ocular presence unseen but felt
thine true self amidst the aftermath
   from Armageddon rubble
   astride charred global ruins
   entire civilization did melt
entire planet prognosticated
by Maya sages with 11th hour stubble
   birthed this Darth Vader nemesis
with evil upon earth he did pelt
annihilating mankind, the derelict species
   that fueled trouble
   hence evil twin appointed apocalyptic
   malevolence spelt
   with mass crematorium desecration
   left horrific blistering welt!

I Cannot Forget Trayvon Martin Slain Teen

I cannot forget Trayvon Martin - slain teen

no matter manifold more young people
unthinkingly killed, who spirits aspire
to ascend higher than a steeple.

revisited and slightly revised today
March 14th, 2021.

One deliberate shameful death,
whose demise linkedin
violent cessation of breath
thank heavy gun wielding hand
innocuous thug disguised
as armed neighborhood watch
firearm brandished
as weapon of choice.

Once again rifling thru outdated drafts,
I unwittingly repost grievous bulletin
that made headlines nine plus years ago,
an innocent lad received fatal shot
into said unarmed teenager's chest
according to testimony
courtesy Doctor Vincent Di Maio.

Memory of aforementioned crime
relegated to dustbin of criminal minds
whereby dime a dozen killings
(nowadays barely register shock)
countless young persons
genetically bequeathed with
healthy dose of melanin
gunned down during their prime.

George Zimmerman (then age 28)
ought to be pitched into the
alligator and crocodile infested Everglade
for his senseless killing (outright murder)
of Trayvon Martin slammed
as involved some illicit wick kid trade
(a slender African American
more precisely youth flush with color
only 17 years young -

(birthdate - February 5th, 1995
death date - February 26th, 2012),
whose martyrdom grows
as days/weeks fade
an exemplary gregarious helpmate
swimming against the tide
to make the grade
now slain while just a youth -
the unfounded killing
by a neighborhood watch volunteer,

who felt afraid
that this dark skinned young man
appeared suspicious pulled the trigger
with comeuppance to be paid
though -- no retribution can restore
lifeless body, still
agitated waters nor offer shade
from the justifiable media frenzy
sparked from Geraldo Rivera made

even with unanimous
approval of guillotine blade
for violence cannot only rejuvenate
a promising future
evinced by Trayvon Martin
reincarnated into tree or leaf blade
but only serves to beget subsequent
violence now unto his grave
said teenager laid!

Crimes twisted and horrible are solved by a group of Elite FBI profilers,
re-runs I watch even though I have seen them several times, it matters not.
In each episode the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit) solve a mystery.
My favorite character is Spenser, pretty boy, genius, special agent,
in eleven seasons, I followed each nasty crime, at the end my prize is a quote.
Now, I am waiting breathlessly for Season 12 to start in September.
All the characters lives are part of the drama, that makes it interesting to me.
Last episode of Season Eleven, hunky Derek resigns to care his wife and baby.

Most of the characters are like family, JJ, did you know, Henri is her real son,
interesting how Emily just faded away, and Garcia, baby girl, oh so flirtatious,
now has to find a new man to tease. Rossi, oh he is so serious, but I like him.
Do you know Gideon wanted out, they killed him in Season Ten, that was sad.
So you see, I know them all, I solve crimes with them, I am hooked for sure.

Night Shine

Night falls in neon showers
Here in the nocturnal simmer of summer
slick city blacktops spark electric.

The juiced-up take to their cars,
pull into fast food haunts
where glazed eyes
return to two-way mirrors,
others fall without noticing
into a numb subliminal hum
an electric divining of something bad
to come.

An ear crawling buzz,
the static clutter of criminal minds
distorts the crests of overheated airwaves.
distant thunderheads pop like
galvanic mushrooms.
Light bulbs vanish
behind lighthouse eyes.

Under a canopy of magnetic shine
liquor stores promote a glow and fizzle,
a hissing power that backlight's
both beer can and bottle,

and we who drink
are thankful for the way
such strung-out needs carry us
in and out of our dreams

until, of course, as always,
a stark, accusatory dawn
jangles its steel-bright
jailhouse keys.

Premium Member Fascinated By the Worst of the Worst

I am fascinated by the worst of the worst of the worst
Watching shows like Criminal Minds
Forensic Files
Stuff that keeps me awake all night
Re-living the horror I felt while I was
Sitting in front of the TV
watching a murder or apocalypse
Too fearful to watch a scary movie, yet watching
Pompeii being covered by bus-loads of lava,
Screaming and dying,
Watching gladiators being torn apart by lions,
Sitting in utter horror, knowing I will be up and down all night
Too terrified to sleep more than two hours at a time,
Waiting for the knife to plunge and the
End to come
Fascinated at the idea of being
Buried alive,
Scared to my bone marrow
And for what reason?
No clear idea,
Certainly
No sense
In doing this to
Myself, and yet
Here I am,
Waiting in terror
For the
Unknown
Them
To
Come
And
End

Premium Member Crazy Love Under a Blue Moon

How is it possible, to be "awful" and "amazing" at the same time?
Please don't find me "annoying" as I ponder your "grim" and "gruesome".
There is something quite "delightful" about seeing you so "frightened"!
It is "fortunate" that we crossed paths, "finding" you is most certainly a sign.

For you I have erected a "monolith" here under the blue moon.
At its very centre I will look upon your pure white "oval" face.
I will know pleasure as I gaze into your stunning "opaque" eyes.
It is so very wonderful to see how you are "opening" up to me!

I will not "patronize" you for you will be the "pride" of my garden.
This is merely a simple "prelude" to our very precious time together.
I know removing your face will seem "vicious", but know l will be gentle.
If I'm kind you won't be "vindictive"! Instead you'll love me and I'll be "Victorious"!

For Shadow's "Make a Poem *2Contest."

I used quotes for the words because my iPad doesn't allow me to bold words on Poetry Soup.

I wrote this piece from a serial killers perspective, I guess I've watched to many episodes of "Criminal Minds".
