Four legs quiver
like clumsy cabrioles
striking smooth gray rivers
of zig-zag sidewalk barrios
in rhythm with happy shivers
syncopated on a muffled drum
as we talk and stroll
On our way
hand-in-hand
we persuade and pretend
this day away
taunting and cajoling to demand
laughing “hide and seeking”
chasing and skedaddling
poking and peeking
like cuddly pandas
or canoodling otters
splashing and clambering
We roll and meander
impetuously twiddling all the way
atop gregarious green promenades
we pause in slight delay
as we prattle and prance
as we dance to the Crickets singing
nodding to their fiddling
frolicking with all the jiggling
Serendipitous stalks
of snickering flowers pop
to dazzle and razzle our wits
we glide in stripes of candy bits
of rainbows bright
Purple painted paisley
fragrantly flairs in pairs
of scented lavender sweetness
among black-eyed daisies
dusting the woozy air
in a meadow’s billowing bloom
sunflowers sunbathe in costume
We giddily tarry
as we carry
a feast of fancies and treats
artsy bits of charmed delicacies
filled with a peck of upcoming kisses
enticing fantasies that wink
Snuggling shenanigans lead us astray
as we find our rootie-tootie hideaway
hugs as we shy away
from tomfoolery jesting
to lay down and swoon
looking up at the soon to be stars
lingering for the coming of the moon
Murmurs of Starlings
gaggle their harmonies
of chirps
in cheeks and broadened beaks
thrumming tiny melodies.
Swallows sweep and woo
fixated on this unabashed swain
through songbird strains
announcing a shrilling review
broadening in sweet refrains
“I love you…I love you”
Fingerpainting the Monet sky
puffy white cotton words appear
from clouds passing by
while tiny violins spin in the air
piccolos peep
pigeon-toed Doves coo and weep
their contentedness to appease
trailing off the pleasant breeze
I fall upon my knees
My words explode to strew
like a thousand storms set free
“I love you…I love you…I love you”
Know ye thy No-No’s, mark 'em well,
Lest their folly trap thee in their spell.
Lick ye not the pie before it be cooled,
For hasty tongues are so easily fooled.
Pluck ye not the fruit that dangles too low,
For ease of pick, may a sour worm bestow.
Nor partake ye of the fig from Eden’s tree,
Lest thou nudity be pricked by destiny.
Dance not with drunks past midnight’s chime,
Lest thy foot tippy-toe tap in Devil’s time.
Nor jest ye too late in yon darkly shaded room.
For such livid indulgence leads to doom.
Sing ye, call ye, all thy No-No’s, out loud!
Like ravens canoodling, wailing to the cloud.
Their lessons learned in wine, sin and woe,
Of tales so true, of what those no-no's told ye so.
Be wise my friend, 'Know ye thy No-No’s' guise,
For sirens oft sing out in sweet disguise:
"To be or not to be, now that's my question be?"
"Come live with me, be my love; share thy no-no's with me."
Mashed potatoes, turkey and stuffing,
apple , pumpkin pie, the parade winds puffing
and Santa Claus will soon come,
a day of football, relaxing for some
others hurry baking and pressure cooking
while children stealing treats when no one is looking
and lovers are canoodling as coffee is brewing
with a prayer, a toast, a glass of wine
what a wonderful time.
Here it comes, be careful now
resist the temptation to hurry out
do a little gift prep early
of treasured sales in the hurly-burly
wait, before the season starts popping
and stores galore are open early for shopping;
take this time to embrace the gathering
of time and experiences shared in jabbering.
Thanksgiving for family and friends
get-togethers, laughter and memories on end
take a picture, two or three
of recall for the family tree
of good times, tears
and wonder at the quickness of passing years
hold it close, hold it tight
before these precious dreams take flight.
Emoticon Yellows
If I were rich, which is a crime
I could do anything I wished
Claim my rights and entitlements as “affluenza”
But I’m an ordinary cyberpunk
A regular yellow kind of guy
An emoticon with an attitude
Manscaping, sliding through life with a close shave
Cantankerous and bodacious all the time
In chillax style, riding the daily yellow bus
Dragging my portmanteaus box inside
And my delishful gal with me there
Clad in fashionable plarn
Irregardless of everything else
We rise above the sights and flee
Above the ancient vomitocious towns
And meld into each other’s grue calm eyes
Canoodling all the while
Smog passes with the night
Snark comments distract us
An anacronym word or two slips out
But we don’t care
We’re off to spend the affluenza check
Just to prove we can
(PORTMANTEAUS words: “PORTMANTEAUS Box” all contest entry listed words
+ "canoodling" - hugs and kisses and "cantankerous- old and feisty )

Spring tramples the detachment of cold
it heals a winter's damaged heart
Buds peddle new beauty as trees poke
roots from defrosted ground
Barn swallows swoop in the cool air
of sparse meadows
To rest, to breed in man made roofs
A barn's hideaway nooks, soothing
like a Sinatra tune
Birds of blue plummage
tail feather streamers, deeply forked
under breasts of white streaks
like jet smoke flashes
Witt, witt sounds, cheerful chirps
that fill dark rafters
that spice a world pushing itself to spring
Hot specks of flutter
Unmuted yearning
Chirps, feather light, a bounce of canoodling
Bits of song that come and go
like lovers kissing in the hay below
Poem composed: February 21, 2021
You are closer to me than a kidney is to a stone,
I love you more than your everything.
If you die before I do
I will have my own bags packed
and wherever we end up
will be just fine by me,
just as long as I can make you smile.
At night your cold feet on my back
help me dream of Polar Bears canoodling.
Sometimes your left hip creaks
in sympathy to my own cranked knee.
You are a cream for my rash
which flares up when you're not
100% around.
If you dent my S Type Jaguar once more
I will forgive you
besides it not that great, its old
though not as old as you, but you are greater.
I will forgive you
like an ingrowing toenail forgives
a too tight shoe,
or like a cold sore forgives
the soothing kiss of lip balm
You are my good right arm,
etcetera, etcetera.

At last count we have 20,000 members
A pretty big following it seems
There must be something drawing us here
Other sites also help with our dreams
Something special must be happening here
Can't imagine what it could be
This unique collection of such talented people
It's a haven for you and me
Hang on a minute, I think I might have it
It's coz of certain folks enrolled
Won't mention names, you know who you are
Not fair to others if I told
So let's just say there's a humongous big bunch
Who turn my crank every day
Rush to my computer every single morning
To read what these sweeties have to say
Certainly not giving away any secrets here
It's reason for a very huge following
Poetry can almost becomes secondary at times
As we canoodle with love overflowing

Bubbling babbling burbling banter from the bar..
Sup hush….memory lane trip...Proustian rush..pleasingly tickled.
Plushly ebbed…spidery beer swirls webbed…lace whirls..grace dimpled dappled jar..
Perch...parched pagans besmirch..sip...druid fluid drip..Iris’s secular church..
Venerate yesteryear dips…commemorate Faustian fillips....teasingly pickled..
Smug treacle toned thatch rugs hugs sturdy slabs.. shrugs..
Tugs tussling tree torn trusses and trestles....
Trumpets tradition.. crisp crumpets in flames..sedition flickering..
Like sassy strumpets calling each other names…playfully bickering..
Remember the surreal cast….gayfully ethereal echoes..
Beacons blush in the embers of the past..
Classy pubs dripping with polished pewter.. parochial paraphernalia…ballsy brass...
Crepuscular charms. splinters splicing smokey shadows..
Wafting whispers.. across tobacco tinted tainted times..
Whistles whetted..quaffing…quenching ...cavorting with crannies..
Carousing with nooks naked in timber flannelled panels..
Canoodling on fecund bulbous bales farm foraged.. freshly fashioned...
Flirtatious follicle flicks....gurgling guffaws, raffish rascals' whisky whimsy..
Courting curious covens..sporting prosecco cackle cacophonies.
As sons become dad..in turn perched with their lad..
Lady lawyer betwixt a pimpled tyro…local employer, bumpkin on the giro..
Museums of marvels.. hoodwink misplaced metaphors..
Laced with a house pour of moreish memories of before..
That without impunity the nub of a pub..
The bar.. a community hubbub hub..
Gracious Landladies…loquacious Landlords..
Sagacious stars...near and far..
We raise our jar.
For our home from home..
A public house..

Bubbling burbling banter brimming from the bar
No sombre timbre just the tingling of folks mingling
Delightful pitter patter of insightful chitter chatter
Webbed blossom ebbed down dappled dimpled jar
Parched pagans perch in their lair a rare secular church
Trumpets tradition beacons blush.. echo embers of the past
Flames flickering strumpets cackling like sassy harridins
Classy cast of polished pewter & bravado of ballsy brass
Timeless games crackling with larking bickering larrikins
Wisps of whimsy waft across tobacco tinted tickled times
Smorgasbord horde quaffing quenching in crannies cavorting
Carousing castles sparkle canoodling too many rascal debacles
With adored nooks courting timber flanneled panels sporting
As sons then become dad..on the same pews with their lad
Lawyer betwixt a tyro…local employer..bumpkin on the giro
Museums of marvels.. hoodwink bores & dodgy metaphors
Higgledy piggledy tables graced stables of parables & fables
Laced with a lush house pour of moreish memories of before
Gracious & loquacious landladies & landlords near and far
Each a stellar story teller in the bar and in the cellar a star
Toast halcyon hostelries that boast such hallowed hosts
Who let us roam in our home from home we raise our jar
Big grin as we begin another weekend just staying in
That special space of friendly faces ..our third place
