Premium Member Dewberry Cobbler

"Caleb, go fetch me some dewberries from the fence row," Momma says,
as I polish off my Saturday morning breakfast. "I'll make us a cobbler."
She stands in her humble kitchen, the light of a country morning dawns
on her face. She's beautiful. I'd be happy to walk a hundred miles to
fetch her berries, or anything else. She hands me an old milk carton
with the top cut out of it. I burst out the door, running for the fence row
with the dog close behind. "And watch for snakes," she hollers after me.
As I round the edge of the 40 acre soybean field, I take the time to thank
God my dad doesn't have me hoeing weeds out of it.

toes peek out
from the canvass sneakers –
milk mustache

The dewberry vines meander beneath the line of fencing in between
the posts. I poke the undergrowth with my walking stick, trying to shoo
out any snakes! The berries ripen early this year in the Arkansas heat
wave. The stickers get me good where my big toe pokes out, I wince.
It’s too late now to go back for boots. The berries are real ripe and juicy,
staining my fingers as I drop them into the jug. “Two for me and one for
Momma,” I laugh and a passing Jay mimics with a caw.

Momma's call
carries down the row
stomach growls

Premium Member Poisonous Ivy

There is a poison that has ravaged man
 ever since creation
This poison deceived Adam and Eve
The poison pushed Caleb to murder
 his brother
This poison was traced in the family of
 Israel
I believe you know the story
This same poison pushed Haman to plan
The mass execution of Jews in the days of
Queen Esther and Mordecai
Now coming to recent times
Hitler and his henchmen planned the
 extermination
 of Jews during the second World War.
This poison is deadlier than that of the
Adder and the Cobra
The poisonous ivy is hate, now check
  yourself if you do not have it reserved
There is an antidote for every poison
The antidote for hate is love.

Who Speaks for You?

Who Speaks for You?

When trouble comes and shadows fall,
When chains of fear would bind us all,
There is a voice both strong and true,
A loving Savior speaks for you.

When prisons close and hope grows dim,
Lift up your eyes and look to Him;
The God who saved, who brought you through,
Still stands in power and speaks for you.

He split the sea, He made a way,
He turns the darkest night to day;
His mercy fresh as morning dew,
Forever rises, speaks for you.

His Sabbath stands, a sacred sign,
A gift of love, a truth divine;
A beacon shining bright in view,
Reminding us He speaks for you.

The spies once saw the giants tall,
And fear convinced them they would fall;
Yet Caleb trusted that God was true,
For heaven's King would speak for you.

Who shapes your path, your loss, your gain?
Whose voice will guide through joy and pain?
Not doubt, nor fear, nor man's review—
Let Christ alone speak for you.

The One who left His throne above,
To show the world redeeming love;
Who died, arose, and made all new,
Is now in heaven speaking for you.

Our High Priest pleads before the throne,
We never walk this life alone;
His grace is strong, His word is true,
And day by day He speaks for you.

So trust the Lord through storm and strife,
Surrender all your heart and life;
For when this earthly journey's through,
You'll hear Him say, “I spoke for you.” ?????

Eve Unearths Eden

Beyond is Jordan, past the great Red Sea,
a distance cov’ring awesome, frightful years.
Invisible her pathway heading home
while Eve awaits the target of her soul.
Through darksome deserts, wand'ring back again
she learns the whereabouts concerning God.

The Holy Spirit is her breath from God;
she praises Him for opening her sea,
for granting ears to hear Him once again.
He’s been her Shield throughout these many years
since Satan hurled his darts upon her soul.
With thanks to God, she’s on the road called home.

She’s found wherever God is, that is home
and stakes her trust in One eternal God.
Like Josh and Caleb, she’s a faithful soul
to celebrate as she outruns her sea.
Her kith and kin show doubt for countless years -
complaining, fearful, time and time again.

When greed and jealous spirits plague again,
she starts to question what she called her home.
Her feet have tread on alleyways for years.
The place prepared by her omniscient God
has boulevards of gold just past the sea
no sun is needed, Christ will light her soul.

No cause for censure, heaven fills her soul
down here on earth. She ponders once again
by trusting God to clear her way of sea
eternal life begins on her way home.
The Holy Spirit lives within as God
and fills her as His temple all her years.

She trusts Him for the distance and for years
and lives with hope down deep within her soul.
Christ is the link that joins her life to God,
creating in her heart the will to gain
sweet fellowship with Him who wants our home
to be with Him well past this earthly sea.

Through endless years here crossing o’er the sea
Eve bares her soul and finds the perfect home
Almighty God spread Eden's gates again.

This boy child knows to touch my heart,
Simple smile shows love's magic art.

A glance of glee sets frolic free,
Profound touch sprees as focus sees.

Now eye to eye two souls can meet,
Poise beams soft sighs in posture sweet.

Baby can flood an instant joy,
In pulse of blood feel happy ploy.

Day by day finds a bond that fits,
A touch most kind hurls play and wit.

Hear baby charm breeze easy times,
Heed a deep psalm where echoes chime.

Each day you grow with change that shows,
Life wears a glow in fragrant flow.

Your easy smiles set bubbly touch,
Love wings with style finesse as such.

In a deep feel the moments grand,
Kinship can heal all pains withstand.

Dear baby child with heart of gold,
Live ever wild as life takes hold.

Once in a while a fragrant tryst,
Love prompts fond style in wonder's bliss.

Five Stars

*Dedicated to Andrea Dietrich, Caleb Smith, Isaiah Zerbst, Anne Currin, and Eileen Ghali

I'll start with illustrious Andrea,
our talented sonneteer.
She peppers our poems with kindness,
with comments so bright and sincere.

Next, we have Mr. McCaleb,
our sweet gent from Arkansas
From KOs to boogers to nature,
he writes without limit or flaw.

Now, I must turn to Isaiah,
the master of meter and rhyme.
His poems are most reminiscent
of forgotten ages in time.

I cannot forget our Queen Anne,
who graces us all with her songs.
Her lyrics tug at our heartstrings,
yet she's upbeat, lovely, and strong.

Last but not least is Eileen,
the most spirited poetess.
She translates feeling to verse
and writes with such skill and finesse.

Premium Member In A World Where I Do Not Exist

Near a distant sun
Under an uncontaminated crystalline sky
Exists a world without me

Where the viridescent grass ages unchallenged
Wears wizened beards
And bows only to the wind

Where the waters crash when you thirst to surf
Smooths when you desire to paddle
And ripples towards shore when you’re heading home

Where zebras change their stripes daily
From neon green to psychedelic purple
Or any color in between

Where the “H” on a building simply symbolizes “Help”
And is a communal gathering place
Where anyone can ask and receive assistance with anything

Where government is synonymous with communication
Leadership is synonymous with service
And opponent is synonymous with respect

But, this distant inhabitation,
Magnificent as it may be
Lacks Caleb, Adam, and Kelsi

Two sons and a daughter that have shone so bright
That they must have burned themselves into my pupils
Since they are always in my sight

So, I turn from this distant scene
A dream without an imperfect me
Because,

A world full of wonders
Will always fall short of wonderful
Without the likes of Caleb, Adam, and Kelsi

Apt lovely face charms in sure light,
eXpress the way joy shouts and screams;
Excite this space with looks most bright,
Love comes Sunday with cuddly dreams.

Charm styles a poise with pout and frown,
Ask cheer and health to anchor grace;
Live feisty voice upon these grounds,
Etch wonder's wealth in ample trace;

Being blooms well love's lasting good.
Embrace clear hope with sparkling fest,
Now and here dwell on fragrant moods;
Remind fine scope to honour zest,

Indulge dear heart a precious feel;
Quest comes to show in earth dog year,
Urge flavours start to touch and heal;
Endow and grow goodwill that cheers,

Zoom in the light as moments come.
Abide fond ease the passage forth,
Choice mellows right as love now sums;
Exact fine peace the mystic north.

Prize fits the dream upon these shores,
Rush of cool breeze greets humble gaze;
Observe warm streams that channel more,
Feel happy squeeze of timely craze;

Oblige in time insight that floods,
Use sanguine calm to live life bold;
Note deep delight in lymph and blood,
Dance with love's psalm as life unfolds.
