Cancer, a six-letter word that doesn’t mean much to most people.
Then the word suddenly has more power than a shot to the chest.
You think, am I still breathing?
You go to the bathroom to try to pull yourself together, to share the pain with someone else.
As the phone rings, you think you can do this, then they answer and the tears start flowing and it’s hard to breathe.
The coldness of the hospital bathroom floor never grounded me so fast.
Breathing coming easier, reeling in my emotions.
Now to be strong for everyone. Brave talk, brave face but inside you are falling to pieces. Feeling numb, but the world is just pushing me along, like faking being strong will make me survive.
Sleep gone, living off so little anymore. Feeling numb as if the whole world is now only grey.
Medicine turning skin that was my warm comfort is now fading, always cold. Hair falling faster than snow in January. Eyelashes floating away with the touch of a light breeze.
How I wish the pain, hurt, and anxiety would be gone, my love. Day by day, I build a brick wall waiting for it to start crumbling, wondering how long it would last before breaking again.
Days, weeks, months, and years, it becomes easier to hear the news. To know you have to be strong for the one you love. The feeling to try not break in front of people, especially your love. You find yourself questioning, why me? But the truth is God was there all along with you, He didn’t abandon you after you heard those six letters. He held you when you cried in the chapel during multiple hospital stays.
After too long of a journey, healing comes and finds its place, the light at the end of the tunnel. Slowly stitching us back together from too long a rocky road.
How that six-letter word cut so deep, the scars left behind will always be present in our memories. You’ll hold your breath at every appointment you go to, waiting for the shoe to drop over and over again.
For an hour
Cicadas saw at the early August evening
While thunder purrs as kittens
In the yarn of dark clouds balled up out west over Ionia County
Trees prepare their umbrellas
The Tigers on TV swing away in the 3rd inning
A good book in hand
Then out of hand
A den of lions-wind roars outside our patio window
Devours the screens
I jump back
House turns black
And our 100-year old standing friends
Just like that
Break in half no more than the unlucky draw of straws
While others are plucked like Hedgehog mushrooms
All thrown down
At dawn
Sunlight strikes of leftover lightning
Flashes through new holes punched in the canopy
I hadn’t seen the sky in my backyard for decades
But there it is
Claw marks across the laid-down lambs on forest floor
And upon the beast of me who lies beside them.

Canary yellow wings of warmth oil a canvas
Fright washes through my tiny veins
He's drunk and driving in opposite lanes
Scared for my life, he enters my complex
Because of something he blew out of context
So alone in my house with locked windows and doors
Scared for 4 1/2 years because of his roars
Trying to break in because he knew I was there
Feeling my anger and fright begin to flare
Locked in my bathroom --- police on the phone
Feeling my insides go heavier as my heart turns to stone
Dispatch says to keep inside and wait for the Law
Breaking my heart, soul, and love as it goes raw
The Law arrived and saw him and the others outside
For 4 1/2 years inside of him I did confide
He raised his fists and almost killed me more than twice
But on his wrists and arms --- he always made a slice
Crazy and deranged and scared for my life
4 1/2 years of bloody pain and strife
Controlled and scared I shake in my bed
Because one day I feel like I'll be dead
Either I leave or he leaves my state
It's the best way to leave him behind and my would-of-been-fate
Threatening my family and all of my friends
Tired of waiting for him to kill me --- where is my end?
Today was a common nightmare like always before
My mind, body, and soul go sore
So now he's gone and the Law won again
And again I am alone to live in this
Domestic Violence Sin
A warm blanket- A gentle hand in a dark night, a friend during lovers' plight. Lie with me, not next to me. Ill bring safety in numbers of one, exchanged for the sun. Fall into me, breathless heaving heavy hums. I am love that covers.
A cup of coffee- Touch me gently, I surge through you with urgency. I'm the nostalgia in your bones with every trace of me I pour back into you. Kissed by flame and earthy song, I spill over my shame. Bold, strong, sultry alchemist—a perfect blend.
A sunrise- Dedicated and humbly I break in. Though rays unseen, and warmth unfelt, I show up daily giving life to those who never fully appreciate. I embrace the earth with the tenderness of a mother's hug. A reminder of rebirth, tangible.
Pen and Paper- Slow to fumble, i enter in with grace. Over the stillness of the room I trace. Always there by the crackling of the fireplace. Waiting to hold a hand, through pain and sorrow i ease in your fingertips.
Bee beautiful
We could have flown together forever,
But now I cannot stay.
If only you could have kept the faith,
We could have found a way.
If only you didn’t kiss him…instead of me.
You could have been the Bumble, to this Humble B.
We had our moment and now it has passed.
We have lost all we had,
But we sure did have some laughs.
I will always love you and I hope you still love me,
But my heart only has a place for my true love
And we were not meant to bee.
You made my heart complete.
I only wish you felt the same way…honey.
Bee beautiful.
I will never forget the times we have been through.
You have always been there for me in the hive when times were tough,
But all things they have to go forward and I am going on without you.
We are not what I want to bee…
I am no longer in love.
I will never forget you and the love you gave to me,
But our love was never destined to bee.
I thought I had found a part of myself with you,
But some hearts are only meant to break in two.
I am sure I will heal and we will smile together another day,
But this time is not the right time for us to say,
We should meet again. Maybe there is a way,
But I cannot stay and be reminded of your face
And the way we always flew…
Some dreams of love they do not last.
Bee beautiful…
Bee the bee that I knew.

I am in a sanctuary where people do unspeakable things.
Things they would never do with people watching.
Things they would not want mothers to know about.
There are lots of shadows; the floor feels wet and cushiony.
I hear the screech of an eagle, spotting prey.
Turn my head to see it swoop down 150 feet from me.
Another screech, then silence.
Twigs snap as I gingerly look for snakes.
Cobwebs get tangled in my hair;
It has been awhile since a person was here.
I stop at a creek, and look at the pebbles.
Wondering if they have ever been touched.
I pick through them, select three, pocket them.
Wild violets are next to the sandy riverbank;
Unseen, unappreciated.
I trip over tree roots as
I walk to a fallen tree, climb up, and sit.
The unparalleled silence calls for reverence.
I lie on the log and poke the forest floor
With a stick, finding mushrooms and moss.
I like the feeling
Of the sun on my back in this tiny
Break in the forest.
I hear a rustling noise,
Turn,
A deer has been startled.
I get a glimpse of her white tail.
It is a sanctuary here; my church.
Once upon a time, everything was black and white
Oh darling angel - I didn't know we were gonna take flight
V.1:
Shadowed silence vibrates melancholy
As the darkening clouds spiral overhead
Open spaces, breathing air of mystery
bloody ink of terror break in...doused in dread
I must confess
Under tons of stress
Hiding this love
Like a thief in the night
Robbing the house of love
My plunder is your heart
To keep in a jar
My jar of hearts
I cried a river
In my heart, in my heart
Deliver…oh deliver
Me from temptation that’s been deceiving me from the start
Ch.:
I’m nothing to you…it’s like solving a mystery without a clue!
Living this lie…refusing my cries
Frozen inside and feeling kind of numb
I feel dumb…well, it’s a bummer…
Wiping away the pain
Wiping away the tears
I ran because of fear
But I must spill the secrets
(I am here
Here I wait)x3
Here I stand…
I hope you understand…
I hope you can see…
I hope for you to see
To see what happens
When love is given
A second chance to bloom
In my heart
I slept for way too many hours
It empowers me – the thought of reaching out to you
Numb without you motivating me…
So, there’s no point of taking cover
It's scarey and curvey
and twisty and turny
this carnivale ride in my head
one minute up
and the next minute down
in all the confusion my soul
soul starts to drown
is it my fault
is it even real
to higher powers
i appeal
is this a storm that's
inside my head
or between the lines
a story unsaid
so often i feel
a boot made a steel
stomping and crushing me down
a teasing light
twinkeling bright
redemption hung
just out of reach
the ties that binde
hold me steady
until the day that
i am ready
to face a question
so ancient and old
could it possibley be
the one holding me back.....
is ME?
My Stuff
Had some friends
Advise me to go
Said I been acting strange
Past week or so
First I declined
But then, I said alright
Signed into the group
For councelling night
This be my story
Of what I seen there
The faces of dismay
Eyes with blank stare
On every table
A box of tissues
For no real resolve
Of people's issues
Heads turned my way
As a man called on me
I had rehearsed already
What my words would be
From the chair I stood
Stated my name
Introducing myself
The reason I came
Voice solid
Straight to the point
I'm not into drugs
Nor hooked on a joint
It isn't the bottle
Or nicotine
But I am an addict
The worst you've seen
I had their attention
And so I sat down
Continued my speech
All intently bound
It's not depression
Getting to me
But I need my stuff
Or I'll go crazy
This isn't a story
Of a love gone bad
But if history you want
Now that I've had
When my hands get shaky
And break in a sweat
It not from gambling
Or placing a bet
I am an addict
No worse will you see
I need my Yeshua
I bet that sounds crazy
Ain't no cure
For what I got
Ain't no pill
Ain't no shot
So there it is
I was asked to leave
The condition I had
Nobody believed
Hey, that's cool
I'll find the door
For I neither the need
To look back any more
Cause there ain't no cure
For what I've got
Not a pill
Not a shot
I'm just an addict
The worst you've seen
Cause I need my Yeshua
If you know what I mean
