I arrived clothed in sheer veil
from whence I came I soon forgot
It’s a girl… they cheered!
I was surrounded by smiling faces of loved ones
waiting to unteach all I already knew.
My eyes opened to beauty
and my ears to unfamiliar sounds all around
from left, to right, backwards and frontwards
my heart filled with desire to discern what
has already been predetermined
I sought to unfold meaning
of all things seen and unseen
a discovery with every glance
the journey self driven
to expand and find purpose.
Everything a wonder
as I touched, smelled and felt
my way into existence
seeking the depth of self
I sensed LOVE
at its utmost level
through every pore
of my being
the warmth of which
flowed through arteries and capillaries
that I may survive
this LIFE I claimed.
My awakening sprung
in the silence.
I sprouted roots
and my soul grew taller
I saw myself
moving amidst tubers
with large heart shaped leaves
reaching upward
toward the light
always expanding and
magnifying self.
Transfixed by nature’s beauty
I encountered peace
and oneness watching things grow
I admired the silvery moon
sometimes full, sometimes new
I watched it work at night
awestruck to see how it gave light
to brighten our dark streets
and how it beamed
so nocturnals could scavenge the night
In my curiosity
I looked for the man
who they said lived there.
Armed with such
the difference between
right and wrong
good and evil
that’s written in the GOOD book
and etched in stone
rules they told me to follow
and the Church says
in Latin have faith
and trust the Divine
a lesson
to prepare for my human
experience
On Becoming a beacon of light
for others to follow.
And when I rested
weary from play
I sowed dreams
in the realm of darkness
and around galaxies.
I starred in unfamiliar dimensions
with underground aliens
who knew my name.
Here In my dreams
I recognized my personal reality
I was connected with all things
and everything was miraculous
sunlight beamed brighter than bright
and I soared with butterflies
as they flew around and above me
the souls of my ancestors
perched with pride upon their wings
watching me grow
my reality is yet to come
as life unfolds in different stages
with different experiences.
Within His Eyes
Within his eyes, we saw his thankful love
as he was saved from meeting a sad fate
and brought into the warmth that winter night
where destiny and loving bonds await.
Within his eyes, we saw committed love
for nurture from a family that cared.
So many years of comfort and pure joy
and unconditional sweet love he shared.
Within his eyes, for many years, joy beamed...
tho softer glowed as twenty soon came by.
And when they closed forever one sad day,
to loving eyes and purrs we said goodbye.

This is a special, very heartfelt poem about our beloved cat,
Charlie, a stray that my husband rescued from a fire many
years ago, and who we loved and adored for twenty years.
It was a tale,
but her eyes glittered as she spoke,
her face beamed with a smile.
Was there something she kept secret from us?
We listened with rapt attention.
She told us a story about a young lady meeting an elderly woman.
The former was a solitary seeker,
and the latter was the mysterious mistress.
They met in the park at twilight.
She said the meeting was an accident that unveiled the hidden.
Sometimes, collisions reveal the unknown.
There can only be a coming out when the pathway is decluttered,
and there can only be bloom when the meadow is out of the shadows.
The young lady found answers to her questions.
She understood who she was.
The elderly woman told her that an enigma is an elixir to mystery
and that turbulence is the route to redemption.
Tears welled in her eyes as she shared these insights.

HOWLING DRAGONS
PATROLLED THE SKIES.
IN SEARCH OF BEINGS
WHO RECENTLY DIED.
A BLINDING LIGHT
BEAMED UPON.
ONE MINUTE THEIR THERE
THE NEXT MINUTE GONE.
UNGODLY STENCH
OF ROTTING FLESH.
FILLED THE SKIES,
EVEN ONES BREATH.
LIVING IN DARKNESS
ELECTRICITY'S GONE.
ONE THING FOR SURE
IS THAT EVERYTHING'S WRONG.
CURRENCIES WORTHLESS
THEY BARTER OR TRADE.
THAT IS HOW,
THEIR MEALS ARE MADE.
VEGGIES AND SPICES,
EXTREMELY RARE.
YET NINE OUT OF TEN,
PEOPLE DON'T CARE.
PEOPLE ARE DESPERATE
AND LIFE IS IN DIRE.
PROTESTERS RUN,
THROUGH THE STREETS WHILE ON FIRE.
THE NEW WORLD GOVERNMENT
VACCINED THEM ALL.
I STAND HERE HELPLESS
WATCHING THEM FALL.
VOMIT AND BILE
COVER THE STREETS.
HOMELESS AND CHILDREN
WITH NO SHOES ON THERE FEET.
RANTING AND RAVING
THEY'RE LOSING THEIR MINDS.
ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT
AND ALL OF THE TIME.
THIS IS GROUND ZERO.
THE END OF THE LINE.
FOR ONE AND ALL,
JUST A MATTER OF TIME.
CONDITIONED FOOLS
THEY WERE LED TO BELIEVE.
I DON'T THINK THEY REALIZE
THEY WERE DECEIVED.

Driven by fear of yesteryear
Forgetting we lived through
Hardships, disasters, calamity
Nature brought on queue
Though those times were difficult
Hope we had reserved
Light had beamed from joy we dreamed
Blessings had been served
Count your blessings
Say thank you for all the greater sent
To be happier in life;
Decreasing discontent
Build up by leaving be
All we can’t control
To shape ones bed and rest ones head
To nurture deep ones soul
Will only form us stronger
Throughout such filth and bile
Returning to the now of new
Solely is worthwhile
For great is life in this space
On this world-Respect
When living in the moment
We reaped rewards correct.
I thought it was you.
I was startled by the tangerine glow that beamed so brilliantly
through the bedroom window
on the eastside of my house.
That's probably not a good place
for a window.
Especially if I want to sleep in;
but you are a restless comedian,
who thinks little of my rest.
You only want to make me laugh.
Continuously. And hysterically.
Like the late night comics
who fear that the memory of them
will fade at dawn.
They must linger...
Now, here you are.
I remember all of the funnies
that you told me.
So now, go ---
to the Westside,
where they are waiting for you
to amuse them.
And I will rise
and prepare to pass
on your silly stories, to whomever
will listen.
Looking skywards, the Alsatian’s eyes glinted for a split second, connecting to a piercing sun ray.
The ray beamed onto dried semen ammonia. Hot dog breath puffed from his nostrils, onto my bare arm.
He sprung next to a sweating succulent, where a tiny kruisbessie leaf quivered human sperm cell display, in a whimpering breeze.
This was a filigree second, in a day of twenty-four hours times twenty-four hours.
Next the Alsatian’s back muscles rippled.
Coarsely-soft black-brown hair along his spine needled up. Four other police dogs whelped in frenzy. He gave a whip snort-sniff, then one sharp bark of achievement.
Wolf ancestry pupils dilated, penetrating that of his handler.
Time, matrixed into bruised, scratched body was a figment, my cells metabolising light and raw earth like the fragrant koppie bushes. Detective voices sliding sediment rock were parachutes opening, falling, dissipating __the helicopter an incessant mozzie.*
“Hy’t dit gekry.” **
The Alsatian with his helper dogs found the evidence of a brutal ripping of my young teen daughter’s virginity, by an impoverished farm worker, on a rugged hill in the Little Karoo.
THE ALL partnered with dogs for humans.
from my loins, a jewel
God connected sun with earth
violence, a teacher

This lifetime’s moment is etched into my evolving DNA as experience. The power of seeing an Alsatian’s eyes connect in radar, with the heavenly Sun, directing him to dried semen on a delicate fynbos* leaf was astounding. Instant perception was one specific gift during great trauma. I chose this unrepeatable moment as it emerged from memory when I read the contest details.
No line was hard to write, though I shed a couple of stagnant tears.
I deleted how I was able to access the best sniffer dogs in the country, the Alsatian and his handler being flown in from another city. I deleted contextual details about the time.

Instead of names, we're often called
By where we do reside,
So, "Hey, New York!" we're greeted with,
A simple ID guide.
Thus Texas, Fresno, Cleveland
And Kentucky we have met
And Arkansas and others
We have not conversed with yet.
A member of the crew, as well,
Who helped us, with delight,
We learned lives now in London
But was from the Isle of Wight.
So later, in the evening,
While we watched a staged revue,
I realized a performer
Was a friendly face I knew.
The singers mingled with the crowd
At their performance end
And thus I had a chance to chat
With my new English friend.
"Hey, Isle of Wight!" I sang out,
"You were great up on that stage!"
He beamed in recognition,
Such a nice way to engage.
The first my starlit darling girl knew dawn,
A sleepy heart awoke in peaceful sun,
So pure was love escaped sweet-newborn fawn,
My own rejoiced renewal brought by one.
The first an angel spread resplendent wings,
And traveled forth her purpose bright ‘n true,
I sang a song that’s heard when robin sings,
While noontime skies made glow my child of two.
The first bright burst from trumpets sounded clear,
Rehearsed chaotic joy becoming free,
With pride I beamed in evening’s pastel air,
For daughter’s self-awareness learned at three.
When four my shadow looked ‘twards me and said,
As twilight danced unseen through pain in store;
“Will you still love me, daddy, when you’re dead?”
I held her tight and said “I’ll love you more.”
The first I had withheld my Ava’s hugs,
When marriage found steep cliffs then took a dive,
I thought of times I’d met now-lacked with shrugs,
Before I knew I’d see her not at five.
