the clock has begun ticking and in 14 minutes this
piece will be over with you and i if we both decide
to accept it have begun on something of a journey
together one in which the both of us should most
assuredly gain and lose such is the moral of the
story that only our forefathers who built themselves
on lying and thievery amidst the subtle guise of
religious piety and political idolatry could handle
throwing it off their table like the scrapping
remnants of a meal well-had by a family whose dog
has sat there staring at them persistently and
without any sense of shame whatsoever biding his
time and no doubt in this hot weather sweating
bullets underneath his thick coat of fluffy yellow
lab meets some other kind of fluffier dog mutt
extravaganza the fact remains that the writer got up
too early today from what can only be considered
as a partial rest and while they are quite conscious
of the fact that there are those out there that do not
get nearly as much rest or even quite possibly
no rest at all in a day this does not in any way quiet
the writer’s own mind from mumbling to themselves
why can’t we go back to sleep why must we stay
up and stare at this screen batting away in this
batting cage with no special purpose holding through
each swing as the balls come flying at us and
we are barely awake the sleepy stuff buried in the
little corner crevices of our eyes still cementing our
vision shut and we tilt our head from side to side as
the pain in the neck shoots up the back of our head
curling itself round the bottoms of the hair
follicles that stick up in shivery amounts dwindling
down the roller coaster of a forehead and typifying
itself at the downward slope of the nose writhing in
the air as it coasts off and into the abyss which can’t
be anything less than the beautifully exciting finish
of the 14 and as we revel in the last few seconds we
hear the bed calling us back and who but a fool
can resist the gift of a little extra sleep
The Prophecy:
An ordinary December morning
extraordinary hopes in white,
streets adorned with snowflakes
embellished in red crystal dreams.
She boarded her cab to airport,
awaited holidays had arrived.
From carousels of Tokyo city
to sledges in the Alps, a while.
Roads blocked in snowfall,
eh, just a glitch in the matrix.
An hour early was a wise decision
she couldn't miss her flight,
home calling season it was.
But oh the flight was delayed
by seven hours for clear weather.
'It'd be a roller coaster ride',
her roommate had read a horoscope.
The tiresome day had just begun.
The Adventure:
A birdie spreading new wings
exploring corners of terminal,
unexpected fascination at stalls
infant desires of relaxation.
Strangers seemed welcoming
a town thriving with journeys
she traveled for 10 hours
without moving geographically.
At last announcements made
she boarded with nostalgia,
the journey to her homeland
began with a gleaming dusk,
golden sunset kissing adieu
to sequins of ocean waves.
She read a verse or two
then dozed off with clouds.
A feather travelling afar
in alluring worldly delight.
The Glitch in the Matrix:
Until they had to pause,
just an intermediate stop
where she stepped out to stroll
retracing steps to board again
caught in freezing showers.
Warm at night, she shivered
longing for her cushioned bed.
A long interesting day though
she wouldn't want it again.
With lilac morning whispers
it was time for her homeland.
Outside was a soothing warmth
veiled in white familiar gleam.
She finally cuddled in her bed
with mother's handmade meal.
Woke up to a cup of coffee
and checked for calls on phone.
Gosh! It was still yesterday
dreaded to repeat she'd forgotten,
her body had traveled in past
Alas! It was a different time zone.

he got up at bedtime stretched and gathered the sheets
shook up the pillows sorted the pages and went to his desk
thoughts and emotions dripped from fine ink on paper
looked at a day’s worth of poetry philosophy and reflection
laced with emotions intuition and balance to be embraced
when he stumbled on seeming inconsistencies and doubts
he tickled his fancy with a feathered quill and let out a sigh
arranged reconstructed and narrated what should have been
meanwhile the roof was leaking and the fireplace was in ashes
for he was poor and his writings would never pay the bills
a mouldy loaf starred at him when he opened the fridge
at least the electricity supply had not yet been disconnected
his heart warmed with pleasure at the sight of some pasta
no sauce and no cheese but a drop of milk for his thirst
food for thought would carry him through hours of hunger
metaphors happily mingled with synonyms and anagrams
states of subconscious flow enlightened transcendence
grammatical constraints had never been his strongest suit
and he was still in his nightgown exuding musk and dust
a lonely semicolon was confused as it looked for its place
cheap coffee and a few fags encouraged further creations
of a lost wonder world with dreams and mysterious events
he would shape his past and his future in fantasy and magic
shed normative pressures conventions and crude dogma
leave them in plain sight to remind him of his true calling
he sought independence and freedom rather than money
critiqued and portrayed the sad state of deceptive affairs
that surrounded him unless he dipped deep into the inkpot
scratched and scribbled prologues sequences and an epitaph
maybe one day he might be given kind posthumous acclaim

Contest: All In A Day
Enabled by God for this day’s fulfillment bliss
Meeting Him in sweet fellowship I should not miss.
Morning prayer and Bible reading nourish soul
As prioritizing the Lord remains my goal.
Thanking the Creator for breath of life so free
My spirit basks in worship’s praise with gracious spree.
Hygienic routine comes next along body care
Marked with exercise-sweatings for physique’s welfare.
Supplied with nutritious feast by the Almighty
My appetite succumbs to fresh breakfast bounty.
Fortified now for multi-tasking challenges
Ready am I to enjoy mother-role plunges.
Bathing my special child, singing “This is the day*…”
I delight in his milestones to manage his way.
Preparing him accomplish something beautiful
Instructions are repeated while he stays mindful.
With composure, I turn to my teaching venture
Facing learners whom I’m entrusted to nurture.
As a mentor, I have paper works for checking
Thus, time is gold upon strict schedule sticking.
Likewise, embarking in counselling takes much time
with my extra-mile duties midst ministry chime.
Phone-call Gospel sharing along discipleship
My heart engages with Holy Ghost’s partnership.
Granted assignment I cherish as joyful gain
For blest solo rendition, rehearsals must reign.
Culminating work hours is poem-writing pleasure
Unwinding my mind serenely against pressure
Then my spirit yields to Christ for restful sleep claim
While triumph by His power I humbly exclaim.
*Psalm 118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Awake before the alarm clock started ringing
Lying abed as song birds serenade me, singing
Listening to chirping lyrics, I linger with a smile
Then get ready for work; my weekday lifestyle
A daily ordeal of honking horns and road rage
Impatient drivers, fingers raised in rampage
My parking spot was stolen, a pitfall of being late
It's still morning, and already I feel the hand of fate
Lost a client I was supposed to represent in court
Booked a flight then realized I needed a passport
No time for lunch, I waited in line for a new photo
A kid ran into me. I think he broke my big toe!
It took a while to soothe my senses, but I tried
with a smile on my lips, but my eyes said they lied
My boyfriend just canceled tonight's date
Who does that in email? A spineless ingrate!
At five I headed home, but the elevator got stuck
Got hit on by some dude. Everything's gone amuck
My car disappeared, so I reported it stolen
Tripped and sprained my ankle. It's swollen!
I took the bus home and while fumbling for keys
Pulled a muscle in my back; couldn't stifle a sneeze
Please, let this day be over! I had nothing to eat
but expired eggs and instant cream of wheat
Lost my appetite and decided to watch TV
Cable was out, which only added to my misery.
I went to bed but heard knocking on my door
"What?" I asked. She said, "Oh, I'm on the wrong floor"
Now, past midnight. The day from Hell was done
but come morning there'd be another one.
I threw the clock out the window, into the street
Tomorrow I'll stay in bed, listening to the birds tweet

Magnetic attraction, enchanting dream of a lifetime -
majestic pyramid attracts my eye,
mystique draws me in
O, your architecture! Pavilions, colonnades; art enclosing art,
every square inch deliberately designed,
ceilings pour forth scintillating splendor
Antiquities from Rome, Egypt, the Orient:
trying to wrap my head around art
created in Mesopotamia 6,000 years ago
Dazed and captivated in your Greek sculpture hall:
Bronze beauty, marble magnificence,
Venus de Milo seduces still
What history you have archived on your walls and pedestals!
Charlemagne holding his scepter,
Louis XIV in regal resplendence
Oil on canvas communicates genuine genius
Rembrandt, Rubens, Raphael,
Vermeer, Van Dyck, Vigée-Lebrun
Mythology awakened to life in marble:
Hera, Hermaphrodite, Neptune, Nymph,
Psyche and Cupid
Even commoners respectfully regarded:
Messina's military man, Brueghel's beggars,
Michelangelo's dying slave
Centuries of religious faith expressed with grace and grandeur:
Moses in the bulrushes, Islamic ivory,
the penitent Magdalene, Virgin and child
Artistic vision reflects and redirects history:
Renaissance masters forecasting the future,
Monet's Impressionism a daring new style
Fifteen minutes till closing, where have the hours flown?
What of tapestries, textiles, drawings, decorative arts?
Alas, another day.
Highlight of the day, world's most famous painting:
mysterious Mona Lisa smile
thanks me for coming to visit
Louvre:
timeless testimony to artistic aesthetic
cathedral of contemplation
history of humanity

Amber sun, vibrant hues caress
Bare skin that thrives to the touch
Of this dawn who know nothing of
Discouragement, but only feels alive
With inspiration that rouses the senses
Awakening elation that frees wisdom
Amid plans for a breakfast adventure
Gentle dreams flourish on the wings
Of a afternoon rain who flows freedom
Through the minds of those who listen
To the whispers of raindrops soothing
With sensations so exquisite that they
Move the heart to appreciate all that
God has blessed us with, such a kind nature
Azure skies turn misty with the evening
Penetrating the spirit with a charming wave
Of gratitude for all the benefits sent down
From a heavenly home where we may
Venture to go one day soon when our lives
Change from breathing souls to those who
Know only the decay of mysterious demise
Ebony drifts across the night with the friends
Of starlight and moon who glides throught the
Darkness in a intense and dazzling glimmer
Amazing those who perchance investigate
These quivering lights as they flicker across
The wonderous dusk, crying out a echo of
Faith, hope and love to those who will listen
It is in the quiet, where silence leads the song
Breathing with desires, insights and mysteries
Forever freeing inspiration to gently give it’s
Yearning hand to those who share their gifts
With fellow lovers of the spark of imagination
Our heavenly Father has put into the hearts of
Those who express an interest in the soul’s ingenuity

Excuse me but I have to ask,
I may not always love you,
Just a coffee please, thanks very much,
It’s not always good news you know,
What’s that band I like?
I’m sitting here beside five identities,
each spouting words across a table.
I dreamt that I wrote a sonnet for you,
ten beats too many, any less too few.
Your words are like pearls
draped around my neck,
but I tied them too tight
and now I can’t even scream.
are you only here because you want something?
but you know I’ll always be truthful,
and can I get a broadsheet with that?
i’ve been seeing this doctor for months now and,
you know, that ‘bulletproof’ song they did,
On our first night together
you asked me to give you my body.
My skin trembled with images of the past,
and tears sweated across my face.
If I had a single promise from you
I’d get up, but I’ve been so confused.
Sleeping only leads me into dreams of you
but being awake makes me weep.
i’m not sure if I can trust you anymore.
you can always count on me for anything.
oh, no, no chocolate on the top, thank you.
i’ve been put on a course of anti depressants.
Radiohead!
If I spoke to these ‘others’
would they care that I tried to kill myself?
The world is forever wrapped up in itself
and I’m a drowning island, as yet uncharted.
ALL IN A DAY
Mass of aqua drops,
as if some simple dimples dancing on top
of river-waves as ripples non-stop
under soft Sun rays on start of the day.
Mass of aqua drops in fervent fervor
propagating as waves of river.
Morning Sun showed sizzling soon
blazing at hot scorching noon.
Those aqua masses evaporate,
separate themselves from river surface
leaving no trace.
Quick to vaporize
and next to rise up, soaring high
under care of warm air reaching sky.
Clustered at afternoon as clouds in platoon.
Sun was almost down when clouds make frown.
Intermittent drizzling started slow under Sun-glow
That aqua mass now in rain-flow
split Sun rays into rainbow on rapture:
Colorful spectrum- show to be captured
by sky-canvas, oblivious.
Now the aqua mass in form of showers
falling on river top recycling water power.
All in a day, I hear them say. What is great for one, may make others run. Wonderful and great times, like beautiful singing wind chimes. What has life dealt, it can make you want to melt. All in a day both good and bad, give me a laugh and don't make me sad.
