All In a Day
Awake before the alarm clock started ringing
Lying abed as song birds serenade me, singing
Listening to chirping lyrics, I linger with a smile
Then get ready for work; my weekday lifestyle
A daily ordeal of honking horns and road rage
Impatient drivers, fingers raised in rampage
My parking spot was stolen, a pitfall of being late
It's still morning, and already I feel the hand of fate
Lost a client I was supposed to represent in court
Booked a flight then realized I needed a passport
No time for lunch, I waited in line for a new photo
A kid ran into me. I think he broke my big toe!
It took a while to soothe my senses, but I tried
with a smile on my lips, but my eyes said they lied
My boyfriend just canceled tonight's date
Who does that in email? A spineless ingrate!
At five I headed home, but the elevator got stuck
Got hit on by some dude. Everything's gone amuck
My car disappeared, so I reported it stolen
Tripped and sprained my ankle. It's swollen!
I took the bus home and while fumbling for keys
Pulled a muscle in my back; couldn't stifle a sneeze
Please, let this day be over! I had nothing to eat
but expired eggs and instant cream of wheat
Lost my appetite and decided to watch TV
Cable was out, which only added to my misery.
I went to bed but heard knocking on my door
"What?" I asked. She said, "Oh, I'm on the wrong floor"
Now, past midnight. The day from Hell was done
but come morning there'd be another one.
I threw the clock out the window, into the street
Tomorrow I'll stay in bed, listening to the birds tweet
