SUMMER COOKING FOR SLUMBER
At the edge of the Thar desert in a city
the simmering summer sun doesn’t set
before it blazes the day at 45 degree C.
On rock slab of backyard I can make an omelet.
Hungry, I enter instead the kitchen in a hurry
from the glare of the smoldering day sunny,
cook quick corn, cabbage and carrot curry,
to beat the heat eat with mango chutney.
For dinner under the sizzling starry sky,
yogurt drenched salad of cool cucumber
I make like an expert chef and eat with fish fry.
When the air cools I slip into summer slumber.

Adorable QuiQui
A green-feathered, yellow head beauty,
that’s my prized pet parakeet, QuiQui.
Even when she’s often crabby and snappy,
she succeeds in making me extremely happy.
QuiQui loves dipping and diving into her bird bath,
and hanging from a perch in her cage, like an expert acrobat.
She also enjoys shaking water from her wet wings,
gazing impishly into her toy mirror wildly shrieking.
Relishing her seeds and red strawberry millet treats,
nonchalantly she ignores my sweet endearments and tweets.
But she shows off her long, elegant, tapered blue tail,
Sitting silently and contentedly unloading quite a poop trail.
And even though QuiQui never utters a single word,
I know she secretly loves me too, my little prima donna bird.

Dear…I am lost for words
As I thought they were Lords.
Alas! They treat me like an inexpensive cup
That breaks even with much luck.
Dear…how dare you act like an expert,
In relationships when you never gave a heart?
You are a gynecologist who has never seen
Man’s ‘sell it all’ treasure always unforeseen.
Dear…Is it I that is your luxury car
You drive when you’re not going far?
The pressure valve you but release
When the temperatures are unease?
Dear…you never hurt me
But you never kiss me.
You repair the stove, I wanna tell my story.
I’ve no underwear, you wanna buy a lorry.
Dear…just a hand-to-hand walk
Thunders lightening talk.
Yet but a kiss will tenderise my muscles,
An embrace will lighten my hassles.
