Liberace Poems

Premium MemberIf You Believe

It cannot exist the naysayer argued.
I knew it did, so I kept my lips compressed.
The naysayer wanted an argument.
He had never seen a turquoise owl.
I knew with this hard line of ignorance he never would.
Until he opened his mind how could his heart open?
I continued around the corner.
Liberace, the turquoise owl gave me a wink.
What are you doing here in the day time? I asked him.
He shrugged.
I guess nothing is impossible if you believe.

Liberace: Was he Prince or Princess
The very question delivers winces
  Watch him on You Tube
  His joints sure look lubed
The key is when he walks that he minces

A good friend once called me a Wascally Wacko
Methinks I will play a little tune on my banjo
While dancing a jig
And downing a swig
Accompanied by Liberace on piano

Premium MemberMind Bendingly Real

I wake from a bad dream
Hey there new man
That’s what they said to me
Hey there how’s it been lately?
I stand, look and see

Elvis, Martin Luther King and John Lennon walk on by so casually.
Roy Orbison and Freddie Mercury harmonising with Liberace as the queen mother watches whilst sipping tea

As I walk what looks like on nothing
I see Winston Churchill talking with Audie Murphy as Lewis Collins stares at me

I say hello to Marylyn Monroe or Norma Jean as Tony Curtis politely corrects me
Burgess Meredith tells me to do push ups, James Mason steadies me. Richard Burton drinking with Roger Moore on one round table and on the table next to them John Thaw doing a crossword - difficultly!

I walk on aimlessly as I see Bruce Lee training ferociously. Clark Gable playing cards with Humphrey Bogart and General Custer sipping whiskey with Einstein, Herriot, Tolkien and Agatha Christie - something too mind bending to me!

I walk through some glass doors and a whole world of familiar faces turns to see.

I wake up suddenly.

I sit up and can’t believe how real that felt to me.

Catch a Weasel Asleep

Catch a Weasel Asleep

Upon my word It all came true,
Sky turned Green and Earth was blue,
Fish didn’t swim but they could walk,
Sheep wore hats and learnt to talk.

Cockroach roamed six feet tall,
Slaying dragons, for they are small,
Eagles fell from pure green sky,
Shed their wings could no longer fly.

Fox strolls town during light of day,
Greeting strangers, it’s just his way.
Tiger’s tamed eating berry fruit,
Rats attack men in pin stripe suit.

Mankind turns human, honest and good,
Walking land where giants stood.
World is spinning upside down,
Man, in the Moon bemoans and frown.

Penguins wear trews by Louis Versace,
Playing concert piano like Liberace.
Ice caps melting flooding the land,
Paupers and Porpoise go cap in hand.

Life on Earth is in reverse,
Pollution and noise only make things worse,
If you ever catch a Weasel asleep,
The end is nigh; time to weep.

The Village *****

The Village *****

in the sunlit morning I awoke to enter the village
a vast amount of seagulls flocked overhead
yet my soul permeates through the duration of the walk
an officer was assigned to watch the Lone Blue Lagoon a gay club
as I entered i melted in my seat there were men around me swarming me like a bee
a sip of wine and everything was so very fine
a whole host of finger foods were on a table
it was many years ago let the truth be told

all the way in P Town that a fare lad named Luigi had come out of the closet
although those many years would pass I still had every reason to grasp
the notion of a whisper while passing gas
Luigi today is known as the village *****
a Liberace of sorts with sweaters and torts
has a coffee shop down by the beach his bagels and locks are to die for
yes in 1975 he went to Studio 54
a hippie of sorts always dressed up in his shorts

very giving man let the reader understand
until the day he got busted for heroin it was all in the news
needles were found even in the coffee house's sofa
now the village ***** is doing time but everything is fine
people still come by and shine

Waiting So Long

Here I am on the phone
Wincing and flinching
Put forever on hold
Listening to old music
That’s oh so loud
Feeling like an elevator
About to explode
Banging piano, is Liberace back?
I think my head is about to crack
Waiting, returning and waiting again
My stares zooming out into oblivion
My head is spinning, my shoulders hurt
But I can’t hang up, I’m so inert
I fear I’ll be rude and spitefully curt
Here I am on the phone.

Liberace

My eyes are dazzled at the sight of you,
Extremely chic, your sparkles they just grew.
Your penguin costumes always sat just right,
With candelabra burning there so bright.

Yours eyes they glittered as if they just knew,
The secret to life was you, being you.
Your smile was a magical starlit gaze,
When you came out, we were all in a daze.

That you were eccentric, no one would doubt,
The crowds would go crazy, when you came out.
Walk to your piano, sit there so tall,
Fingers would move, and captivate us all.

Rings filled with diamonds slid over keys,
Magical misfit, our senses appeased.
