Lengthens Poems

Premium MemberSeparated

The empty corridor of distance
stretches long and dark between us.
Silence, like a deepening shadow,
lengthens as no words redeem us.

Time, an ancient kindly neighbor,
promises a light will come;
a dawn to break the bonds of night,
and love, your love, to take me home.

Forget-me-nots share sighs of For-Heaven-sake's,
from boulevards to avenues, the streets -- speak.
City park use strengthens, as the day lengthens.
Doves charming swarms of drakes, tethering the lakes,
while the awesome vision enlightened the crowds,
frequent strolls beneath middays consoling breaks.
Wandering drifts of cloud-swept vistas abroad.
Smooth gushing sounds that the family film takes
of the small falls that meanders down the creek.
As the day lengthens, city park use strengthens.
Silence climbs, Forget-me-not steads mid handshakes.

the noose of fate tightens
even as time slows
and space lengthens

such interpretations of mind
fickle, unsound, temperamental
are politely declined

be it instinct, be it reason
if we choose to indulge in thought
it is against soul’s light treason

Title 1

"The forest is my loyal friend A Delphic shrine to me." ... by Ralph Waldo Emerson

The written word bears roots abound
Hail favored mist of hallowed ground
Announced breathtaking full-filled air
Spreads out enjoyment summons fair
Forgiving trailed Earth's crowning Star
Forest startup's reserves stretched far

Healthy hoards and wholesome intakes
Fresh novel minds elsewhere, retakes
Obsessed consumed florists stationed
Lives styled out stretched reawakened
Seedlings advanced Heavens promised
Groundbreaking achievements calmest

Cob-web silk thread eight-legged shooters
Tethered roots edged equaled footers
Floods 'neath grounds raise the gigantic
Psalmist summoned lessened frantic
Misplacements sequenced adjustments
Cause coursed through major monuments

Misfortune causeway lengthens aches
Stressed strung-out unmeasured outtakes
Commons traversed rights owned presence
Neighbors challenged core quintessence
Claimed righteousness labors bear fruits
Attributes are well-served ... grassroots.

Grieving the Shift

Time passes, conversation and music ends,
light refracts, shimmers in water, bends.
Nails grow, hair lengthens, heads turn and bones break,
stems wilt, gardens overgrow, clouds regurgitate water from lake.
I know that things change, the erratic constant that needs be,
but this loss of you I can’t fathom, grieving the shift from us to just me.

The Race

The Race

Crouch at the start,
Count down, three seconds mark.
Exhale sharp with the clap,
Creating power, push to surge.

Cutting to the bend in the first lane,
Three hundred feeling the pace.
Listening to the rhythmic heaves,
Too slow? My stride increases.

Breathing to the beat for more air,
Two hundred left, take the lead.
Never looking back, just the line,
Last lap, the bell chimes.

Rhythmic breathing, keep it tight,
Visualizing the fly, knees to height.
Three hundred, it's time to kick,
Stride lengthens, elbows stick.

With two hundred to go, I sprint,
Breathing deep, three in, one out, flow.
Only the track ahead, body length I see,
Keeping knees high, maintaining the fight.

The last hundred, the world fades away,
Lean forward, more momentum in play.
Down the final stretch, ground's all I see,
Then suddenly, the crowd comes into view for me.

Lifted high, off the ground, a winning swing,
I can stop running now – I have won.
The stands alive, my name in their roar,
Commentator's voice rises in a shriek.

A record broken, a new peak to crown,
I go limp, faint, I am man down.

Premium MemberVortex of Thought

Within the gyre of life self-centered,
Spins mental debris long since splintered.
This maelstrom of memories stretches and lengthens
Until a breaking point is reckoned.
Do bad dreams, and sins forgotten,
Lurk in minds long roiled and rotten?
And where is the relief from nocuous nightmares,
Vexing romances, and unanswered prayers?
When does the circle of life bring closure,
And will it end in full disclosure?
Life is too short for questions long.
And it should not end like a tragic song.

Love Poem For a Rainy Day

This is a love poem for a rainy day
Seem through the streaks
Of a wet windowpane
And the eyeful of streaming tears
Escaping to roll down a pale face
To be lost, absorbed with the rain.

A love poem to be read
Under open skies on
A cold wet winter morning ,
Taking comfort from walking a dog,
Faithful, nonjudgmental, offering
A wet nosed kiss,
Unconditional love and loyalty.

A love poem of sadness
For what has been lost,
Hope for what may be to come,
And a ceremonial cleansing /
By cold wet pouring rain,
Washing away remnants of
A cherished past,
Regrets for what might have been,
Making clean starts
For hoped for new beginnings.

A love poem written walking
On a dark, wet December day
With the Equinox approaching
And, after Shortest Day, each day
Lengthens by a cockstride a time
Until longer Spring days
With their Warmer rains of hope

Summer

Summer
lengthens evenings,
dawn stretching til the dusk.
Light cascading through our window,
an amber ray, golden liquid dancing.
Warm to the touch, a soft embrace
lulling a gentle sleep.
Lovers bloom in
summer.

Premium MemberI Invite Him In

I feel Him in the still of Night
and in pools of warm sunlight

I sense His shadow by my side
  as twilight lengthens hurried strides

I invite Him in my modest home
  pour over His Holy Tomes

Drinking Alone In Sunlight

A quenching sparkle of water
vodka smiles up
from the bottom of the glass.

Paint me as this garden chair
with nothing in it
but a drinking sky.

Mind has wandered off
to roll around
under the bushy hedgerow.
The groundhog will bring it back
at eventide as the light
slips into its nightgown.
For now
my shadow has slipped behind the sun.

You might ask
where are my friends,
where is my wife,
children and grandchildren?
They are all nearby
on the rim of this glass,
we swim in the icy water
lay content on slices of lime
as the sun grace notes
our reversible hearts.

The day lengthens,
my shadow returns
like a sorry dog
that has roamed too far.
Honeysuckle perfumes
our reunion.

That night
I dream of old Lin Po,
a silhouette
hovers over his round tummy;
like a nightingale it sings
for those who drink
by themselves until the moon
calls time.

Be Your Biggest Critic

Be your biggest critic, if you suck admit it,
doesn't mean you're finished or at the peak of your limits
just means you have the guts and the brains to revisit
the mess ups, mishaps and the resulting bits missing
adding to your knowledge which lengthens your vision

cuz the first serve is worthless when 30 serves have surfaced
and 60 80 90 reveal a skill that just might be frightfully unlikely
and appealing if conceding to the misleading feeling
the first serve was breeding that gave good reason to stop believing.

be heeding this reading
don't end it keep reaching

judgement isn't found at the first
always at the end, not the middle or birth

Temple Bells In Ohio

In my mind I travel the open road.
Whitman, Frost, Thoreau,
they got here and there before.
I also used to trek and track
there and back;
now I have this chair
and when I can
I place ii in a circle of sunlight,
eyes projecting scenes on eyelids.

I find it easier to slide upwards
to mountaintops this way.
There I can listen to temple bells,
ringing their soft golden chimes
above a mist-laced jungle morning,
or walk a Great Wall
to watch the sun set over Mongolia.

Now a river boat docks at my feet,
I ride the Ohio river
maybe as far as the Mississippi
Mark Twain at the wheel.
Then turn to the open road once more
for a homeward journey,
my chair creaking
as I traipse over lands low and high
to bask now in a backyard
as daylight lengthens.

Ohio corn sways to a hobo wind,
while I,
still hearing the roaring of oceans
orbiting a sitting Buddha,
at peace
with all roads taken or not.

The Passion We Share Is Beyond Compare

your hand lengthens down my barren neck,
i'm enthralled by your motivation to love me-
you whisper in my ear, on my cheek a peck,
i needed you back then...oh, can't you see?
when we met twenty years ago i was a wreck,
and all the hard times are dusted in a speck

you handle me with care and sincere affection,
believe in me like no one else ever has before-
for we have a rare bond, a strong connection,
you touch my nape and hush, "adore me more";
separate we're flawed but our love is perfection,
bestowing graceful introspection and reflection

in the depths of my heart you reach heights
beyond any mount or eagle in the azure sky-
i'm fascinated when we turn off the lights,
your opium induced passion makes me high;
yes, there have been struggles and fights,
but i'll never let go of all the romantic nights

the way we came together, how love did blend;
you are my mate to my soul, line to my life-
all my heartbroken moments you did mend,
i'm so grateful october made me your wife;
little notes you compose and roses you send…
shows me our love shan't come to an end
