And Thats All
David J Walker

The young girl disguised
in mascara aged rage
report a frayed journey
kidnapped in time.
How am I to remember you
without a calendar of event
without a program of pictures
without a caption of laments
and itemized legers of expenditures
and renumerations ?
I know your name
And that’s all
I know your sins
because
I am one of them
And that’s all
The statute of
Lamentations
illuminations and
Limitations
Has long since passed
And that’s all
The young boy speaks from
The distorting mirror
funhouse mirror
carnival mirror
Into broken mirrors
Of broken glass
From times far past
And that’s all
He was holding
Your young hand
In innocence
And that’s all
One fine day Ted sat up like an arrowhead
Straight out he jumped out of bed
Had a quick coffee and a bite of bread
Ted liked to think things through in his head
Nothing he liked better than plan ahead
‘It’s deplorable status quo that I dread’
In love for years with a lassie was Ted
Weekly baked the most enticing gingerbread
Today was the day Ted finally said
He needed to prove he wasn’t a hothead
Before Ted would ask his bonnie to wed
He needed to upgrade his shabby shed
Ted wanted first to purchase a quadruped
He went to see horses for sale chez Fred
There he purchased a thoroughbred
To pull his sturdy new sled
Went back to see over yonder that spread
The one for sale unless he’d been misled
He got that blessed go-ahead
Signed for mortgage on the right letterhead
So Ted sped and he fled
As if life hung by a thread
Off to his bonnie with roses so red
Addressed the daunting figurehead
For his daughter’s hand Ted pled
Lengthy itemized good intentions he read
In appreciation, they named their first born Ed
Then the next Copperhead Ned

Preposterous Poem of the Day
While working on poem he wanted to write
Of subject about so suddenly lost sight
Soon started searching for another one
To use until new poem was finally done.
People reading his poems were not amused
Because all of his subjects were overused
Worn out, worked over and becoming trite
And of each poem's fact they had lost sight.
Horn then completely changed subject instead
And after his poem has been completely read
He generalized and was no longer meticulous
Each subject he used seemed totally ridiculous.
Not only that was found after further review
Subjects were completely insane and untrue
Way had been was indicative of irresponsible
And itemized it was completely impossible.
By anyone his poems could not be understood
Were outright outrageous, nonsensical and no good
He took each trying poem and then threw it away
Poetry Soup calls them Preposterous Poem of the Day.
